My biggest problem with UO

StellosStellos Member UncommonPosts: 1,491

I played in beta and 3 years after release.  I know what UO was, it was the best before the whole trammel and other stupid crap that hurt the game for me.  Now I don't like the fact that there are ninjas, or how there are goofy mounts, or how there is 100 colors of every item and most items are the same but will have a neat blue tint and be labeled something that is suppose to be powerful, or how housing takes up all the open land.

Most people that I've played UO with think I'm crazy for this, but my biggest problem is housing : allowing players to design their houses has gotten rediculous.  I can't even tell if some structures are a house they are so goofed up.  If your a current player or have seen the newer housing you'll know what I'm talking about.  I liked the orginial housing concepts and even the newer ones they added after release but to allow players to design them seems like an attempt to just keep vets in the game for a little longer.  It bugs me so much I can't play.

UO is an old game, and for this reason one can't expect it to be amazing in terms of graphics ect, but this housing thing has driven me nuts.  image

It's not really that bad, to be honest.  I actually like seeing what some people build.  Some houses are just amazing.

I agree that some are well done.  However, I think the majority just look rediculous and do not fit the scheme of the world.  I suppose it is just too over the top for my taste.  I prefered the more traditional housing that UO had pre-T2A.

I think it is difficult to say a house is unrealistic in a world that has magic and dragons, but I don't think it's too much to expect the houses to fit the general scheme of the world.  Castles, towers, cottages, ect those seem appropriate.  Not some wierd tower that trys to look like a space ship or a houses that have writing on the roof so helicopters know where to land.  (just a few examples I have seen, the list is long)
