It's not like we are overrun with open pvp mmo's to choose from, if something has to take a backseat to gameplay, graphics works for me. It may have a lot of similar base concepts to SB, but its not the same game. Even if it fails to the same degree SB did, it will still be the next step that somebody has to take.
In some ways its like SB, the good parts of sb are in darkfall. city cappin is better in DF bc its not all about capping and burning a city down, you want to cap it and then hold it and make it part of your kingdom, and get resources from it.
If open pvp scares you, you can go check out guild wars. I am looking foward to DF, the graphics, pvp, char development, no glowing names above your head, no fire and forget pvp.

Yep, like twins they are
When I said similar, I was comparing SB before it was released to DF since that's the stage it is at. If you followed SB before it was beta'd, you know that what a game promises to feature, and what you actually get don't always have that much in common.
Another similarity between the games is untested development teams and questionable funding. (to my knowledge of DF's dev team this is their first attempt, correct me if I'm wrong) So until I actually see all of these unique concepts functioning in a playable game, it doesn't mean much to me what they claim to have.
By the time all's said and done, they may have a lot more in common than we would like to hope, but that depends on how the release goes, assuming it does go at all.
So you're basically saying any game that promises to have things in it, and is not currently released... is like SB. Simply because there's a chance that those features may never be put into the game?
I'm pretty sure every single MMO in existance has scrapped features before being released.
You're comparing some pretty stupid things between the two. The only similarities are a few of the features. I'm pretty sure the gameplay is nothing alike, and from the videos I've seen the graphics are also NOTHING alike. Shadowbane had graphics that seriously made the game unplayable because they were so ugly, and its gameplay and interface was so clunky I wanted to gouge my eyes out and cut off my hands.

First- no gameplay does not look similar, and no, I don't personally think the graphics are either... I also don't think the graphics will be award-winning or anything- and I'm ok with that. Like I said before, it's a next step in open pvp mmo's that needs to be taken.
What I'm saying is that, like DF, the first timer devs of SB promised A LOT. They delivered on some, and I personally still enjoyed SB.. I played at release and still do. What features are in the game or not at this point isn't my concern- The key similarities are in the development and funding. Your right, most games make promises they don't end up delivering on... the less experience the dev team has and the less funding are what make it more of a probabilty for me. Either way, I'll probably still be playing because I keep my expectations realistic and I really enjoy open pvp. How many people on these forums, writing posts about how their favorite features will work or how the game will play, are gonna get pissed and never play when something inveriably gets dropped?
edit: being able to link an item to chat is a 'feature'... being able to see level and location of guildmates in the guild info window is a 'feature'... Open pvp is not a feature of a game, it defines everything else in the game. If I'm going to compare an open pvp game to any other game, it's going to be SB, because thats where my experience comes from. That is why DF, if and when it is released, isn't just comparable to SB, it is SB's successor and the possible next generation PvP mmo.
As a guy who's played shadowbane since beta and still does, Darkfall looks like an upgraded version of shadowbane's graphics. But who gives a crap? It'll still be the best if their pvp combat is as promised.
IF its like SB or close Fooking awsome I love SB. Its just i been playing it so long its boring. If its not like SB but still fun? Awsome! You flame is stupid because if its true I still will love the game.
Darkfall has one the best graphics of any game just about to be released including a phyics engine...Shadowbane is just a broken game that died from broken pvp ... If anything Darkfall is a update of OU.
You want to know what is really funny. Shadowbane had about 50 testser in its first stage of testing and a full year to go in developement when I first visited the Darkfall site
I dont know what is worse. SB coming and going as such a flop or Df taking 2x the time to develop.

You, my friend have got to be kidding me. Look at the imagine below. You'll notice that all the trees are blocky, the canopy (located on the upper right hand corner), looks something out of Doom 1 and the surface of the trees look like they've been pasted on.
They have good character models i'll give you that, but beyond that it looks a lot like shadowbane. (i.e. They drew models on paper that didn't quite translate to a three dimentional world. )
As long as DF keeps with the open PvP and was half as fun as SB, I'll be playing DF for a long time to come. If DF takes anything from SB I hope it is the character creation, it was easy to gimp yourself from the beginning, which made you create revision of your character to see how you could improve it. With all the MMO's out today if they take one good thing from each it should be great. Hope to see everyone there if beta ever opens.
Even though the graphics are not top noch this will be a game that many people will be running with the lowest settings to get the best proformance and least lag.
also its the only open pvp game on the horizon, even tho its been there for a long time.

It looks to me like it is UO set 100% in Fel (the PvP half) all though of course the graphics are way better
I look forward to have the % skill progression than levels again and the economy part of the game sounds awesome... But I'm also not trying to get my hopes up, you never know how it is really going to be compared to all the things they say it will be
well if you think Darkfall is about nice graphics I feel really sorry for your slow head. And if you think you can compare Darkfalls gameplay to Shadowbanes I'd probably cry a sad tear for your ignorance.

Yeah... you obviously havent seen the gfx for Darkfall. If you compare them with shadowbanes gfx and say thier just as good.... then youre blind.

Omg i bet u didnt even play SB.... or even if u played u were one of those carebear nations that got pwned from the very start...
Nevertheless DF takes some of SB great ideas and implements well.... it also has no level system but skill system..
Did i mention Naval combat? and a soft skill cap
I agree, the OP is totally wrong...
