World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Delay

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the release of their first expansion for the wildly popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft, will be pushed back until January of 2007. This will dissapoint many who were hoping to find this much-anticipated product under their trees this Christmas.

To allow more time for closed beta testers to provide us with valuable feedback, we will be moving the target launch date of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade by a few weeks. This will enable us to take a little extra time to polish the content and ensure that the expansion meets our expectations and those of our players. For more information, click here.

I personaly think that this is a comemerable move on the part of blizzard entertainment.  Unlike most companies (especialy SOE), blizzard even with the up-and-coming christmas rush is not willing to release a half assed X-pac full of bugs just to increase sales for the holiday.  It is really frustrating to buy a game and find it loaded with bugs and I am quite happy to wait an extra month or 2 to get a clean functional expansion.  Hey we all know blizzard has the money to forget about christmas sales and get us the best product they can and I thank them for that.

Also they intend to release a patch 1.13 with the xpac talents and pvp systems before the xpac comes out, they were quoted of saying "We were goign to release this patch for the peopel who dont purchase x-pac to continue to play the game.  So we may not get xpac till jan or later but we will have some new fun things to do stay tuned for info on the patch much is yet to be released

They had like 2 years to finish this thing... Holy crap. How much more time do they need?

yes, I for one am pissed. How long does it take? what am I paying for monthly then? Bah, time to buy other games at Christmas then, like Vanguard. You lose on this one Blizzard sorry, should have released this at the same time as your TCG. Not smart.

I'm so totally P.O at them.  It's going to be 26 months between the game going live to releasing their first expansion.  Has any other game taken two plus years before an expansion?  With all the other games coming out, this is just horrible marketing.  26 MONTHS!!!

If my devs told me they needed two years to tidy up the expansion, I'd be firing people.

And they're going to miss the Chrismas shoppers.

It's making LoTR and Vanguard look better to my wallet.

Some people are never happy. People get mad and pissed off when they receive a half arsed expansion pack, like we seen in Everquest. But when a company pushes back an Expansion pack to make sure you get a FINISHED product that is worth your money, people are suddenly angry that they have to wait longer.

I glad that they delayed it past holiday season.

More bug fixes. Less lag during christmas time. No loladins in horde side. More balanced classes.

I say that with the delay they should open the testing to all now. I mean, wouldnt bug reporting go a lot faster with hundreds of thousands of testers than just a select few hundred who attended a stupid convention? Im mad that I have to wait, but then again, I didnt even get into WoW until a year after its first release!

I commend Blizzard.  It proves that the XPac release isn't all about the money but more about getting it right the first time.  It is very noble of them to admit it may not be ready for release, and want to take more time to correct some problems.  After being an SoE customer, this is a breath of fresh air for sure.  I for one would much rather have it delayed and as close to perfect as possible than have it rushed and screwed up and requiring 15 patches to get it right.
