I am not sure if I understand your question correctly... but if I do... of course you don't need to buy a retail version for a 10-days trial! I know there's a 10-days DVD WoW trial for sale in computer games stores at a really cheap price but you could simply go to this URL and download it! Let me know if it worked!

Yes! I think you can log on a trial client and play the full game! And like I said, you could always go buy the cheap DVD WoW trial in stores now...

Enjoy!!
The free trial can be played through the downloadable client, but that's not what he's asking. He wants to know if, after playing his 10 days for free, he needs to purchase a retail version of the game, or simply subscribe and start playing.
Honestly, I don't know, that's something you'll have to ask Blizzard. I purchased and played the game long before there was ever a free trial, so I can't give an accurate answer. However, in other games it is common practice to allow players to simply subscribe and start playing without purchasing an actual game CD.
If it turns out that you are required to purchase a game CD, you can probably get one for about $20, which includes the first month's subscription.

Yea you have to buy a retail version (or downloadable version) to get the account key to play beyond the trial, and as stated above it will include the first 30 days.

Yes... I am sorry I didn't understand your question in the first place.
If you want to play the full game, you'll have to buy the original version in stores. It is really cheap now though!
Enjoy!
