Does anyone know how much it costs to develope a game like  .... DnL or somthing.  This would be initial development, through beta, and before "shipping".  total price ranges if you have a good idea would be nice (including paying of people (programers, moderaters gm's, marketing, ect), servers, equipment/software .......ect)

    That number varies so wildly its not remotely funny. There are games out there with a $1,000 dollar development budjet

    I know that, what i mean is a game like DnL in the stage it is in.....

    DnL ??? Hehe, bad example, that was like what... a few hundreds and a cost to rent a gerbal to run the servers? image

    Anyways! It's alot, like alot alot. It's also depends on the size and scope your going for, whether you want to build an engine from scratch or buy it, how many R&D, Development and tester people you want. Then woudl you Q&A in house or outsrouce, the type of game... I mean, list goes on and on.

    Best thing for you do would probably google a Business Proposal for a video game, this tends to be what development companies bring to investors when looking for funding, you might be able to get a good idea of everything involved.

    Several million dollars, at least.

    If you really need to know, for whatever reason, you already listed all of the things you should start pricing.

    EDIT: When the OP says "DnL," I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he means "mainstream MMO" and not "useless unplayable garbage."

    Yes. DnL is trash, but i liked the ideas behind it....... its more of a curious intrest then anything serious, could become serious in a few years tho.

     Well i sent an e-mail to farlan very politely asking them about their costs. Chances are i wont get anything, but you never know.

    For a real top MMO these days it is normally in the 10s of millions, they cost more than most hollywood movies to make.

    Im thinking in the range of 1-25 million.... game like WoW...twords 25 at release.... game like DnL ..um 1 .. we'll see tho...

    Between $100,000 and $10 million, depending on so many factors that's it's a preposterous question to begin with.

    LOL, this makes me remember those kids that wanted to make a MMORPG.... and i think most games of the latest generation must cost a couple of millions US dollars, since the develop time is usually from two to three years.

    Well....not really, but im sick of games that have good potential and end up being virtual trash that i wouldn't wipe my arse with *cough* darnkandlight *cough*

    10-15 million is average for typical major MMORPGs.  The "monstes" like WoW cost more, the korean garbage is like 2 bucks and a slave.
