Even though its not a traditional mmorpg, I think Neverwinter Nights 2 can be classified as a highly anticiapted RPG with an mmorpg feel and similarities when your a member of a persistent world community. What say you?
I dont know. Personally I thought the single player story sucked in the first one, and I dont really care for role playing so it wasnt a big deal to me. Also I remember alot more hype for the original than I'm seeing for this second installment. Personally I dont care for most player created content in games, and the idea of some of these folks DMing their own server scares me.

MMo's have been flourishing for lthe last 5 yrears,so most MMO fanatics won't be following a single player genre. There were a number of decent games that follow the same as NWN,baldurs gate was one,but i just don't see much of a following, unless they really change the game to follow a MMO genre. It might not be true but my impression would be,they take the single player game and allow multiplayer netcode and nothing more. The game really has to be reworked to allow for partying/crafting perhaps even PVP.
To answer your question of being highly anticipated...NOPE.Break new ground? i doubt that either.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on these points. The MMORPG genre has been flourishing, but there are thousands upon thousands of players who have become disgruntled with the MMORPG offerings of late. The most common complaint is that they are all carbon copies of each other, and there is very little originality. Amongst such people (myself included), NWN 2 is highly anticipated. It's anticipated NOT because of its single-player campaign that will come pre-packaged within it, but because of its toolkit which, if it's anything like the first one (and by all indications it is), will allow us players to make our own content, our own modules, and even our own persistent worlds. Players often display way more originality than your typical MMORPG devs, because a player working on a hobby does not have shareholders or upper management to answer to.
There were thousands of NWN 1 modules available and yes, many sucked, but mostly, they were keyed toward all sorts of different tastes. Because there weren't any pencil pushers forcing the game designer to do something he didn't want to do, there were some amazing NWN modules that bury in quality (though of course not in total volume) the content in any MMORPG on the market. Some examples include Shaderaven's Keep on the Borderlands, Implimian's War of the Yellow Fang, Oraweb's U1-2-3 series, the Crypt of Riddles series, Stefan Gagne's Elegia Eternum series, and many others. And that doesn't even get into the highly original and well-done Persistent Worlds, which were like mini-MMOs.
Amongst players I know in the MMORPG world, I would say more than half of them, and probably closer to 3 out of 4, are highly anticipating NWN 2, and our guild is currently working on setting up play times and DMs and game groups so we can play something different, and more original than the current MMORPG offerings.

FYI, NWN was rock-solid online. There was something that appealed to most RPGs. Everything from PvP Arenas(Try it out, was quite mindblowing), hack 'n slash dungeons, large PWs with enforced RPing, custom content on the fly delivered by GMs.. NWN offers you the same as the standard MMORPG today, except for the 'massive part'. But once you sit down and play with 60 different people on a single server, you'll notice that it is indeed quite populated. The best thing about NWN is defently the custom made content. I mean, you can add your own classes, feats, skills, spells, crafting system.. A skilled team can develop something amazingly. And now that Aurora toolset no longer uses tiles, people will be able to create way more interresting areas.
Good responses, some seem a little less experienced when it comes to mmorpg trivia than others But I've already pre-ordered NWN2 and am looking forward to the single-player game, and the diversity and depth of the fanatical world builders out there to adventuring in a persitent world with multiple other players on-line. I see it as a little break from the mmorpg run and lack of anything mmorpg-wise interesting for the remainder of the year.

NWN2 highly anticipated rpg ?!?
Did you eat mushrooms or something?
It is nothing but the sequal to the most popular RPG PC game of all times. Only game that people are still playing for 5 years as their main game. Lets not forget over 4000 adventure modules. And countless persistant worlds ranging from pure PK-PVP to Enforced roleplay.
It is only fuzing NWN gameplay with Baldurs Gate gameplay - and is made by the team that created the best rpgs in history of pc gaming ...
Nah..man...
Forget it ... NWN2 , who would play that...

Well yes i remember reading about the toolkit, and yes i did say that was a great idea and i still say its a fantastic idea. That however will involve other players creations to wich there is no doubt in my mind from past exxperiences will be better than the actual content created by the NWN team.If you want to argue that the players creations are gonna be great and the toolkit is a great idea then yep i back you and the idea all the way,but the actual NWN game is nothing that will be highly anticipated.
I give them credit for releasing this toolkit, but the one flaw i found it has ,is to seperate players from one another. An MMO needs everyone interacting in a single universe allowing it to grow in a realistic manner. These player creations ,just create server hoppers who bounce server to server trying out all the different stuff players created. This works quite well in a FPS type game wich you only want like 4-8 players on at a time, for 15 minutes at a time but if your trying to create a large player universe seperating everyone isnt a good idea.If this new game will only have production servers then player content will be very limited and hand picked anyhow. ...TOOLKIT[awesome]anticipated game?nope.

... I played 1,5 year on the same server. A hardcore roleplaying PW. It was nothing about jumping from place to place. It was the reason i played NWN. The PW was great, had a huge development team, 300 active players, over 500 semi-active players, active forum, and always at least 100 people in their IRC channel..

You havent actually played it, i could tell you how its different but it would break NDA.
Besides nine dragons is free, and for that simple fact its is a nice high quality game. Theres no sense in trashing nine dragons its a free game.
Anyway, i thought NWN2 was like titan quest.. small room type rpg, where the most you play with is 2-8 people, not full fledged persistant world.

I am looking forward to try NWN2.
I won't play it online.
It is not going to be as good as BGs, yet, it will prolly be a good experience.
