Best kind of quest

What kinds of quest people are talking about when they say that a game has "content"? I only had quest that requires me to get x number of this then deliver it to him and kill y numbers of this.  But what exactly do you guys have expirienced with the quests of games like WOW, EQ2, EVE etc...

survival, hold the area, retreat, and follow the leader(IE tracking quest/hunt him down(not a stationary mob)) were some of the more enjoyable.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

You should try some of the new Korean Game Quests.  Like Ragnarok Online's rescent quests.  They may have added only a handful of quests, but 1 of them is equivalent to about 100 quests in other games.  Like right now I am on a quest to save some orphans and I am tracking down this man.  So far the quest has taken over 20 hours and has had me traveling to every corner of Midgard, but I am finally to the epoch and I have tracked him into this very difficult dungeon.  I would need a party of 8 just to get to him.  In the process I already gained 3 levels, this final part is also sure to gain me another level (and I am close to level cap), because even with an 8 person party; by only killing 100 monsters in this new dungeon I can level.

I like the idea of Dynamic quests that is starting to go around where you can make choices that affect the outcome and how you are viewed; but I don't think anyone will implement it.  The really long quests are cool to, like they take several sittings; but when you finish it is a great achievement.

I'm pretty sure Tabula Rasa will be super different concerning quests
but right now I have to admit that most likely World of Warcraft offers
    the best quests.

My favorite game quest was probably the original coldain ring war(especially the ring war on the tenth part), but I fear that might be nostalgia speaking.

Other quests I really like are the "spell mission arcs" from the depths of darkhallow expansion(eq1) because the amount of lore that is weaved within the missions. Everything from being witness to the fall of Shiliskin Empire 1500 years ago to shadowing(following not too far away, but not too close) Elder Longshadow to intercept a conversation with a skinwalker agent.

As cool as those quests were the Ultimate quest(or any content) is dynamic. These worlds while virtual and persistant are plainly too persistantly constant. My dream mmo would integrate the actions of everyone within it allowing them to freely shape the world. This hasn't happened because the amount of resources needed to make it happen is too great. In my mind I have a great example of this, but to flesh it out in text would be very time consuming.

I agree..."the missing diplomat" is a really good one.  Also, i think the difference ebtween each game is the storyline behind them.  I think WoW has some really great storylines, but the "kill these X mobs, and bring to Y" are very abundant in WoW.

All quests suck, but I like FFXI's mission system, even though I hate
the game. They're all complex and pretty neat if you ask me.

GW's quests are the same as every other games, and you obviously
haven't played any other mmorpgs. (GW is not an mmorpg by the way)

EDIT**DAoCs DR missions are actually pretty awesome too.

I agree with Paulscott, Hold the Area quests are pretty fun. They are great in MMOs and FPSs. They force you to really think and you have to know when to use things so you dont run out too quickly. They may be damn annoying but those are the levels and missions you remember.

The Library from Halo anyone? image

On his white throne of ivory and platinum in the hot, bone dry white city of An Tiram, Darkist XXV, Lord First Speaker to He of the Ten Thousand Faces, Yentror of All Men, Lord of Ten Thousand Years, sat, watching the Supreme Commander of His Host approach....

"My liege, your legions are ready and await your command, what is thy bidding?"

"Go forth and kill me 10 snakes, 10 beetles, and 10 crawly things, then return in triumph so I may shower you with worthless junk", Darkist responds......

ah yes, another MMORPG of high adventure....

EQ quests were pretty cool I thought, even though i wasnt a big fan of the game as a whole.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

I think either I or most posters are missing the point of your question.  Are you asking about what variety of quests exist [and in what game(s)]?  Or are you asking what is everyones' favorite quest? nm, perhaps I should just start my own thread with my interpretation of your question...
