OK, i just started playing the game, and i got a few questions if anyone feels like answering :
- Is there a way for my Character HUD (the box with my name, HP, ...) to be on the upper left on the screen, and the other characters i target on the upper right ? I try to drag those boxes but it doesnt seem to work...
- How can i see my character from the front ? It seems i can only see him from behind, even when i'm playing with the different camera modes ? (and when i'm able to do that, how do i take screenshots ?)
- How do i equip my new machine gun ? I do equip it using the Inventory, but when combat starts, it always switch back to the revolver, and i cant use the machine gun !
- Why is everything so dark, i cant see a god damn thing in the game ?
Well, that's about it for now, it does seem like an interesting game, but i'm kinda stuck right in the beginning with all of my questions !
Oh yeah, and how come i cant post anything on the Matrix official forum boards ? I dont even see a "post" button or anything

1) Your HUD cannot be moved across the screen, but virtually any other UI that would appear on your screen can be moved. Hopefully in the future, we'll have a small UI revamp to suite better needs.
2) Part A: To see your character, you will have to do one of two things... First, if you have a "scrolly" mouse, just click down on the wheel and turn the mouse accordingly. If you don't have a wheel, you can change the key bindings to respond to the left/right mouse button (or any other button for that matter) through the options menu.
Part B: Screenshots can be taken by pressing F12, or Shift F12.
3) Firstly, you need to have a weapon that corresponds to your level, or at least the minimum level requirement for it. From that point on, all you need to do is place your mouse on the interlock button (located on your hotbar), which has an arrow/dropdown menu there. Once the arrow is clicked, you'll be able to choose from different combat states.
4) Why is it dark, and there are zombies around running a muck while infecting people... Well, it's Halloween in the Matrix! Hehe, not the best time to join the game, unless you know what you're getting yourself into. Until November 6, the city will be in sheer darkness, with things happening all around. It's a very different experience from the norm... Hehe.
5) New recruits, people who just recently joined the game, can't create new posts on the MxO forums -- I think. Anywho, it was for security purposes, due to a list of event related characters having their identities revealed.
Phew, I hope that was somewhat helpful :P
Edit: Oh noes!!! He beat me to it!
Ok, thank you both for the help, i'll try to play a bit with the controls like you told me, and i'll let you know !
It's too bad i cant move my character box, i'm so used to it with the other MMO i play, now it's the other way around, it's a bit confusing during combat, i feel like i'm the one losing HP fast
As for the server, i'm on Recursion, i just chose it cos the name seemed cool, but i have absolutely no idea of the potential differences between the 3 servers
BloodWork, i'd love to have someone ingame to help me and show me things around, and i wouldnt mind switching servers if i have to, i'm only lv2 ! Are you on Recursion too, or do i have to switch ?
(oh and also, i wonder, what's happening if you choose the blue pill at the very beginning of the game ? )
for the different server, if you like to PvP you should go to Vector (Hostile means PvP server), otherwise recursion is fine.
The difference between a normal and a pvp server is that on a PvP server everybody above lvl 16 can attack and be attack by all other players (not from the same organization of course (Zion, machines, merovingians)). On the other two server, you first have to type /pvp or attack someone else, before you can be attacked. And yes that can make a huge difference

Well, i'll stick with Recursion for the time being, then once i got it all under control i might switch over
I wasnt even aware of the different factions, i'm glad that i still have a lot more to know about the game, i like complex games !
Oh ok, is 50 the level cap ?
My name on Recursion is Excius (which roughly means "the one who has awaken" in Latin )
I'll be playing this afternoon (well, my afternoon, that's in one or two hours from now, as i live in Europe), so yeah, let's try to meet, thanx, i'm eager to learn !
and yes 50 is the level cap.

Any good now, how many play it now aday's?
Playing: Everthing
Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
As far as how many people play? Well, I've always been partial to the nature of MxO's population... It's got a small, tight and evergrowing community. Considering the amount of effort, desire, devotion, and the like that comes out of it... It's pretty impressive.
Now that i've played a bit more, i got some more questions
I saw an Option called "Lock Hotbar", i thought it could be the way to put it in another place than at the top of my screen, but it doesnt seem so... Anyone knows what this option does, i couldnt figure it out ?
And about the Camera, the World camera can be configured into Static / Follow / Chase, and the Combat camera into Static / Adjusted / Scripted, i tried playing a bit with all of that but didnt see much of a difference ?
Hm i guess that's about it for now, i'm having a bit of a hard time with this "all-night" event, it may not have been the best time to join cos i cant see sh*t
Combat camera:
"Scripted" zooms closely to the fight and totally takes control of the camera. In bullet time moments, the camera automatically changes to the "scripted" modus.
"Static" makes the camera completely controllable by the player. The camera doesn't perform any scripted moves whatsoever, and only moves when your character changes position.
"Adjusted" focuses on the combat rather than your character just like "Scripted" and performs scripted moves and 180° angle hops attached to specific moves, but you still can freely move it around and use the zoom function like with "Static".
World camera:
"Static" only follows the position of your character. It doesn't change its angle when your character turns around unless you manually move it with the left mouse button. It also allows you to move your camera around your character while walking, because otherwise, the left mouse button causes your character to change direction.
Not quite sure what the difference between "chase" and "follow" is. However, the camera follows both your character's position and direction.
Now, one more question, not for me, but for a friend of mine whom i'm trying to convince to join me inside the Matrix !
I already told him how good the game seems, but he's a lot into Crafting (unlike me, i'm not a big fan of it), so, is there some Crafting to be done in the game ? Please tell me yes, so we could have another new player very soon !
Just a marginal remark.
To answer your other question 'lock hotbar' means that abilities placed on your hotbar can not be dragged or removed unless you hold shift, this helps if you keep accidently removing ya abilities when trying to use em ><
And my friend might join me when it's daylight again
Hmm. Matrix.. The zombies... I don't know whether its me or the game... but ive been running forward nonstop when i run the game. Well, i don't press the forward button, yet i move foward. Think something wrong with keyboard, but did anybody else have this problem?
Yeah, dont let the darkness or zombies throw ya anyone, its the mxo halloween event [aka random fun time!]
Oh and run lock is activated from a num lock click, maybe look into that.
OK, now it's daylight again, and it's definitively more fun !
It seems that the community is a very important part of the game (and that's cool !), a few guys already asked me to join their faction, so could you tell me a bit more about that ?
I understand there are 3 "sides" (the Machines, Zion, and the Merovingians, right ?), but what are the differences between those 3 sides ? And what are the advantages of joining a faction ?
I know i have a lot of questions (and i will surely have more in the near future), but it sounds like a quite rich and deep game, and i like that
The reputation decides both about your PvP position (to which two organization you fllag as hostile) and, with some number of points, which story missions you can run.
Joining a faction of any org overrides your reputation in PvP (or I think it's been changed recently so your reputation gets erased if you join a faction of another organization), but main thing is, you don't really have to join any.
There aren't really any determining difference in gameplay: each organization gets the same attention with live events and story missions (different ones, of course), each has their number of organization areas, the introduction of org specific abilities has been put on ice.
What could I say?
Zion maybe has the largest player population (advantage in PvP). Also, the Merovingians have the most interesting organization area, while Zion the least interesting (that's the general opinion, at leasst). Zion and the Machines have "splinter organizations" (EPN and Cypherites), the Merovingians don't.
But there aren't really any crucial advantages to each other.
To explain them a bit, first of all, have you seen the movies? If not, the explanation would become a bit longer
Ok, so it seems it's more of a roleplaying difference, i like that !
Yes i've seen the films, and...well, i dont really know which side to choose then..
As i always loved the bad guys, i wouldnt mind being on the Machines side maybe, but i dont really know how far this goes, are there some Agents in the game ?
Three of the four districts in the city are "restricted", and being in there, there's a possibility that an uber powerful Agent spawns and kills you. Also happens if you stay for too long in the mission area after goal completion or aborting. But those don't really have to do anything with the Machine "organization" as they just enforce the Machines' rules on humans.
Apart from that, Agents are widely used as live event characters and NPCs as representatives of the Machines, mostly in the function of liaisons, controllers or delivery responsibles. The Machines' mission controller is an Agent, for example.
The Machines are less the "bad guys", rather cold and calculating, and overtly putting the stability of the Matrix, the Truce and other goals over human life welfare.
Although Merovingian role players might vehemently protest against such claims, I guess you could call them the bad guys -- or rather the Exiles they work for. Malicious, often gory and cruel.
The Cypherites, a Machine "splinter organization" (only due to game mechanics, not story), aren't plain bad (not currently), but their objectives are questionable and their leadership even more.
But I'm afraid the truly bad guys (like currently the Unlimit terrorist group, or previous renegade splinter groups) simply aren't playable
