hiyas. ok so im lookin for a new mmorpg.  ive been playin asherons call 1 since winter 2000. but the game has been slowly turning to crap, and i just cant take it anymore, so im lookin for something new. i liked that it had a large world where u can go anywhere and nothing was instanced. each class was very specialized, even down to the weapon used so there was a lot of diversity among players/classes. the storyline was always evolving and new content was being added. there were more quests than u could ever finish. and i could go on and on, but i guess thats enuff lol.

so ya im looking for something like that. hrm, what else can i say to help u guys. um, i like anime, mecha, scifi, fantasy, tabletop minis games like mechwarrior and warhammer. i guess thats it for now lol.

so anything you could recommend would be great. thanks. =)

EvE pretty much has all of this.  Biggest world of any mmo, no instancing, tons of choices for ships and loadouts, storyline evolves based on what the players do (they are the storyline), devs are always adding new free content.

EvE seems to be a hit or miss for most people.  It's not a game that you will like if you have no imigination.  It's not a game that just throws quests and the like at you so you can go on the ride.  There's no leveling and you can't max out your character.  The game is completely open ended.  There's no lack of content in EvE, but it's all player interaction based.  If you don't have the drive to come up with a purpose for yourself you'll be bored, if you do you'll have more fun than in any other game.

wow EVE seems to be the big favorite lol. i was considering it, but i was weary of the stories of newbies having a real hard time starting out and getting jacked by veteran players. but it does look pretty fun.

its not really what im used to tho, coming from a fantasy based game lol. but ya ill check out that trial.

    thanks. =)

edit: oh, im also a fan of grinding. dunno if that helps lol.

so ya, im still playin asherons call, and there are even less players now. im still searchin for something to replace it. the new phantasy star universe looks fun, but i dont think its the kinda game u can play for 5+ years lol. im weary of going anywhere near wow, but it seems that thse days, thats all there is.

sigh, so hard findin a new game lol. keep the recommendations comin peeps, thanks.

You will never find a game if you think you'll ever have the same experience as your first time.  AC was my third mmorpg and I thought it sucked overall, nothing will ever compare to UO.

You kinda have to get used to being dissapointed and find something new to enjoy, maybe something that is nothing like AC, instead of looking for the same experience.

Most games these days have Free Trials. Start out with the big boy WoW, then go down the list of the major titles, and I really hope for you to find something good cause the bottom of the barrel aka F2P games is not something you want to be part of lol.

Here's a few major titles with free trials :

     1> Wow
     2> City of Heroes/Villains
     3)  Star Wars Galaxies
     4)  Planetside, its mmofps but maybe thats the change you need to cleanse your pallete so to speak
      5) Anarchy Online , dated , but the whole original game is free to play, except the expansions.
      6) Ryzom, wanted to throw in a less known mmorpg into the mix :)

EvE is cool but still u have to know that u will never be able to catch up whit other players. U dont gain "exp" by killing stuff or doing missions u simply get it the longer u have an account. So if u start playing one week after som casual player and u play like 24/7 he will have more skill points to use then u anyway.

I would recomand that u chill a bit and start playing one of the upcoming games. There are many games relesing 2006 Q4 and 2007 Q1. I would probobly recomand Vanguard, Spellborn or even Thornes of Chaos or what ever and them ofc switch to Warhammer online at 2007 Q4.

CoH and CoV would be the best game IMO, however I am not sure how long it would last you, but I am pretty sure it wouldn't last 5 years. image

Still, 5 to 10 years in advance in design, however I am not sure their current team understand the strong points of CoH/CoV, sometimes they look like they don't get it themselves.

EverQuest would maybe last you 5 years, hehe, but I didn't bear it more than 2 myself and would NEVER resume any game that even give 1 reward to raiders that I feel should be given to groupers instead...lol, no thanks.

You really shouldn't try WoW, the game feels too good to be true if you haven't played many other MMO's and you'll be addicted for a long time :D

Not really u could start playing for exampel WoW now and have the same eq/skill as the top players whitin a year. How are u suppost to get as many skill points as a guy thats been playing eve for a year longer then u? Or 2 months for that matter?

  • IthurielIthuriel Member CommonPosts: 179
Jesus, quit bitching about the inequality of new players in EVE.  No, you will never have the same amount of skill points as someone who played for 2 years.  Get over it.  If a new player focuses on specialization, learns the skills necessary to fly and properly equip a certain class of ship, and, omg, actually employs some intelligence and practices sound tactics when using that ship, they'll be kicking ass in pvp in no time.  More skill points may mean you can use more stuff, doesn't make you a better pilot.

imo, time to think outside the mmo box: play NWN2, Gothic3, Dark Messiah.... till AoC comes out (skip LOTRO cause I'm sure Turbine is bound to mess it up)...
