Ok everyone, there is a lot of misinformation about this game and Mr. McQuaid (games lead designer) is calling on those people who have been following it to try and clear stuff up. Aradune (Brad) has posted on these forums quite a bit trying to clear stuff up and getting into the community but he is only one guy.
So if you have any questions about the game or heard something about the game you didn't like feel free to ask me here and I will do my best to answer with sources.
If you are reading this and can answer questions as well do so... but do your very best to find official sources.
That is all

Great, and thank you.
I am looking for a game with a spirit of adventure, not one full of "kill 10 of this, kill 10 of that", and Fedex quests, but one in which you can actually go out and undertake missions that have a backdrop in the game/zone, and feel you're contributing to a storyline. What are the quests in Vanguard like, are they more of the same cloned crap in every other MMORPG, or is Brad going to break some new ground and actually go after emersion in the fantasy world/story?
Also, is combat more of the same old stand around, target lock and womp on the beastie for 5 minutes, while the healer keeps us up, or is it going to be more tactical, flowing, and lethal? I don't expect to drop the beastie with one blow of the sword, but 24 blows to eliminate the health bar is a bit ridiculous.
people should know what they are getting them selfs into befoe they start to play a game and then when they play they shouldnt complain

But these are the highlights IMO:
"Quests will involve all sorts of ideas and stories; there may be multiple ways to solve or complete them. Some of the stories might be only of local import, or some might have some epic scope. It really all depends on the context, who you are, and what you're doing. Certainly the quests will not be random, nor limited to taking an item from point A to point B. Our quest design involves a sophisticated flag system where characters can be marked by an number of events (including, but far from being limited by, picking up or being handed an item). NPCs will then react to that character depending on what flags he has on or off."

"How players affect the environment is an area we're pretty excited about, but need to keep under wraps for a while. We have revealed that, for example, crafters will be able to remove cave-ins and repair broken bridges."
As far as combat goes check this out:

And these are the highlights IMO:
" Combat is reactionary. You can react in many ways. To list a few:
Detect errors in your opponent's melee attack, and defend against it. This will allow you to counter attack. If your defensive target is in trouble, you can choose to rescue him or intercept the attack. Other members of your party can create openings for you to exploit. you can do the same for your allies. The attacks that are made in response to an opening will be more effective than standard attacks. Work sympathetically with your party members to create powerful spells. Perceive and counter incoming NPC spells. Choose your method of countering. Create an attack chain that is made of openers (basic attacks), Bridges (more powerful attacks) and finishes (Extra powerful attacks)"

"MMOGs are not twitch games, but they also don't need to involve boring encounters where you turn on auto-attack, sit back and watch. We plan on adding quite a bit of excitement and decision-making to combat and other gameplay areas. We want you to be actively involved in your characters movements, advancement, and actions within the game."

"Easy to learn, hard to master sums up our concept of combat in Vanguard. .You will have to think about the results you want to achieve in combat, as well as how youre going to achieve them. You will need to counter and respond to tactics and strategies your opponents might employ."
