This isn't a joke or a scam. I've done this (I have SWG for free till Dec. 2008) myself.
Go into your local Circuit City (or some place that offers free gift cards with preorders) and preorder Star Wars Galaxies: Complete. With your preorder you'll get a FREE 30 day time card, and if you did this at Circuit City you'll get a $10 gift card which you can use to preorder another copy of this for another free timecard. See what i'm talking about?
There is no obligation to buy this game, you are essentially getting free SWG time.
Don't have any expansions? Wanna try SWG totally for free? Get the trial account, then do the thing described above. You'll have all the expansions (except Obi) for free.

Star Wars galaxies is now freer then Guild Wars! You don't even need to buy the game, just make a trial account and put a time card on it using the method above.
SOE can't change other people's store policy. It's legal. Way I see it SOE has fucked us over sooooo much it's now our turn.

I already knew about this and I'll have to pass. I bet now that people are running their mouths about this they will make it so you can only use one card per account.
Who gives a shit? Seriously. I'm just spreading the word. Do it or don't do it, it's your call. Sony doesn't get the money, the store you bought it at gets the money. It's their gift card and such. I might be wrong, but meh. It's free SWG. Totally. Freaking. Free.
They wont change it, Sony can't. The only thing they could do is stop selling to these vendors. It's Sony's problem.

I wouldn't play unless they pay me more than $49.95 a month.
Most have us have resubbed before, and we got sick of the game after a day or two. If we didn't play it when we were paying, and we're not playing the trial, why would we want to do this? Our time's better spent making fun of the game over the internet.

Okay yes what the original poster is doing is a crime. A preorder expresses an intent to purchase a product. Perhaps you change your mind, or you lack the needed funds. What matters is that you have a real intent. Now if you had no real intent its pretty obvious once you preorder twelve copies, and do not buy a one. Then you are engageing in fraud, and while you probabally do not reach the level of felony in most cases it is a set cash amount. You easily meet the criteria of misdemeanor. Laugh it up till a judge makes you actually purchase all those preorders.
What makes what you are doing so much worse is your also hurting Circuit City. SOE/LA is going to make the same number of cards, and game boxes reguardless. At this point its set in stone. Here is a company Circuit City behaveing in a fully ethical matter, and showing good faith towards you. You are the one behaving in a devious manner.
I obviously am going to report this post. Lowering yourself to the lowly state of criminal not only hurts yourself, but makes things a little harder on all of us. Even worse is your advocateing a crime. Hopeing people here will follow your example.
I do not know MMORPGS standards on reporting crimes to the law, or for that matter victims. I would hope they do pass your name along atleast to Circuit City so they might ban you from their stores. Other then that it is probabally wise for them to delete your post, and ban you from this site.
The only reason I post is so those that do see this before it is likely deleted will know that not only what you have done is unethical, but probabally illegal. Hopefully the original poster realizes they may have done something really stupid, and decides to rectify it. Then again someone so dishonest probabally thinks they will get away with it.

It's not a crime, and yes it amy be a little unethical.
This is in no way illegal, not in the least. I've asked about it, asked the store, asked others and all have said it is perfectly legal.
Circuit City gets piad no matter what, it doesn't matter to them. They still get their money. Store policy is store policy, that's all.
SOE and Lucas also get a cut everytime I buy a preorder. A small cut, but still the same as if I were to buy another one of their products.
