D&D Online

Hi Folks,

Per this press release: http://www.turbinegames.com/products/index.php?section=dnd, D&D will be coming to the MMORPG world in 2005. However, I haven't seen much info on the game itself. In fact, it isn't even listed on this site. Does anyone have any info/links? Many thanks if you do.

Thanks,

X

I have also heard about this. But not seen anything about it. My guess is check wizards of the coast web site..or Hasbro.. But the rules are no screen shots. Not listed.. at least thats my understanding about getting a game to be listed on this site...Cheers!

"They're going to ruin the D&D world..."

I've never played D&D but I've played many games that resemble it I believe. It sounds cool from what I hear...I'm wondering, though, if this game is the same as the other that the creator of D&D is working with or if not then I wonder which game will "win"? or...have I just lost my mind and don't know what I'm talking about? image

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but are you talking about Gary Gygax's Lejendary Adventured?

The interview at http://www.gamebanshee.com/interviews/dndonline3-1.php sounds excellent! Hope it turns out as good

"...but are you talking about Gary Gygax's Lejendary Adventured?"

That would be it. So Legendary Adventures and D&D Online are two different games I'm guessing and if that's the case I wonder which one will get the larger "audience"? They're both heavily based off of D&D I believe or will be...

I'd go with Gary Gygax, turbine has turned into a microsoft; they dont care about stories, substance, just cash. The whole basis of MEO is crap, it doesnt resemble anything it should.

I was excited when I 1st heard about this because it just seemed to fit so well. I pictured them having not only pvp, and role playing servers but servers themed on planeshift, dark sun, greyhawk, forgotten realms, and ravenloft. Instead I learned they're using something new. Kinda like what they did with the movie, which seems odd seeing as they have a wealth of information to draw upon. Not sure why they have to reinvent the wheel.

I just hope they actually work out different racial cultures, and not just different racial player models who all use the same looking equipment.

I find it interesting that Turbine has the rights to do DnD and Middle Earth. I wonder if the two games will use the same resources just acaled a bit different i.e. Tall elves in one, slightly shorter in the other.

Ya, turbine getting both rights to an MMO for two worls that alot of people know and love. I personally enjoy D&D forgotten realms (was really introduced by BGII). And then MEO, I thought to myself, what an awesome idea; but it seems that they didnt lear from AC2 and are makeing the same-o lame game that is about simplistic play, that will get old quickly.

I mean you got a game that should be perfected, and could not be made without perma-death. Some may think thats extreme, but this is middle earth, in tolkiens books there were only about 2 cases of people coming back from the dead. You know what they're doing? They're doing a AC1 death system, you die, you wake up at a townstone? I mean wth? Is this even middle earth?

Then, no PvP? I mean c'mon, the whole emphasis of the books was that of war. Hobbits killing orcs is commonplace to "level up"? I mean c'mon, this isnt the adventuresome middle-earth that we all grew up reading about. This is another level grind where the goal is to who can get the most mithril suits.

D&D, early state; cant really comment on it, but you see one thing ruined, you automaticlly assume that the next is going to be burned.

NWN is D&D, just not a MMOG and it was Bioware as a developer and not Turbine, but Atari published NWN and they are listed on it for D&D Online instead of Microsoft. If D&D Online is going to be very similar to NWN, I think I might be able to get back into this fantasy crap ::::02:: Otherwise, I don't know what to expect.

Ya, NWN was fun and fast paced, but also, it had a storyline, a main plot, it'd pull you into it. MMORPG usually dont, it's usually this repetitive side quest crap. Now if they could make an innovative system that continually you're in a quest, superlative; thats what D&D is all about, otherwise, dont put us through another letdown; aye-yi-yi.

I for one hope it's nothing like never winter nights.  I don't know about you guys, but the game did absolutly nothing for me.  I mean the combat was slow, I mean real slow for a hack and slash style game.  Who wants sandwitch combat in a single player game.  Secondly the sound designe was absolutly horrable.  Lets listen to the sound effect of people being torchered or people running through the street screaming when all the people and bandits are dead.  It's obnoxious.

Then you have the story, great story.  NOT!  I'm sick of the same old fantasy stories.  Oh the town is underseige by some evil wizard who wants to destory us all.  Or oh no another army of orcs is on the rise.  Give me a break.  Screw evil wizzards and their armies of faceless minions.  Give me real fantasy, with confilct and drama.  I never want to find myself saying, "Oh I'll bet that guys the villian."

    "Why?"

"Because he's the only one dressed in black."  It's stories like neverwinters that give fantasy as a genra a bad name.  I don't mean to bioware bash, expessaly since they produced KOTOR which in my opinion, is the be best rpg to come along since secrete of mana.  But serrioulsy folks, in mmorpgs, you can't be the biggest badest hereo in all history, so please don't compair them to single player games.  Because if you do you're only going to be led down a path of dissapointment.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I think I should say that I've own or read a ton of D&D sorce books and let me tell you something.  ALmost everone of their fantasy pregenerated worlds, are about as interesting as watching paint dry.  All of them the same tired old fantasy concepts.  With maybe the exception of Al' Quedime, but thats a whole diffrent post.  Personaly, I"m glad they decied to go with something new, now maybe I'll give the game a try when it comes out, instead of saying to myself, oh great yet another crappy Forgotten Realms adventure.
