So where do you start writing a warning message to potential players of this "mmorg" well lets start at the begining. i got this game couple of days ago to pass the time before LORTO comes out. (very worried now at turbine) So i played for a while enjoyed the game style. Very similar to Guild wars. Instanced, no problemo not a roaming game like WOW. So the feel of actually being alive in the game doesnt count. I can live with that.
I tried the beta version and at that time i didnt have a powerful PC to run the game without the 10minute delay before i actually moved. I timed it once on my old 2000XP Processor, took me 10minutes to walk 10 feet in game. not the games fault, just my PC. One upgrade to pc, and got really fed up with the direction of SWG i turned to DDO for my FIX of grinding
So the game is really nice (graphically) to play, annimation is smooth and fluid. The dungeons do get very very boring running the same one over and over to level. But hey, not as bad as WOW and the 1,000,000 runs of MC.
But all hell broke loose on DDO come thursday. Patch or as CM call it, module 3 arrives. Now i dont have a lot of time to sit around and wait. hell we all have a life away from the computer. So what caused my anger with module 3.
Well, so many peeps wanting to download the new patch and codemasters failure to provide adequate (and i mean adequate resources) meant that all players trying to patch the 3000+ files took, and no joke here on average between 26hours and 35hours!
Like omg, thats 2 whole days just to Patch. When your downloading in todays modern times, downloading files should range between 50Kbs-1000+ Here on Codemasters servers were getting 5.04KBS!!!!!
Thats PRE-DIAL UP speeds for crying out loud!
So can MMORPG go RE-REVIEW the module 3 and see what speeds YOU get.

Hello,
As you may or may not know Satine is out the office today at London MCM expo. In her absence I shall be doing my best to keep you up-to-date with the DDO patching issues.
As things currently stand our Net-ops team are investigating a number of solutions both short term (to help you all out with this patch) and long term, to ensure something like this doesn't happen again. As soon as I have the specific details I will post these up for you. Our production team is also working with turbine on a solution, so we really are trying all avenues at the moment.
I understand that this is frustrating for all of you and can only apologise for the current situation. As Ive said, I will do my best to keep you all up-to-date over the course of today.
I will speak to you all soon.
Thank you,
Mr.Ktat
UPDATE:
11.03 am (BST) We are currently opening up additional patch servers in the USA, this will give players additional band width. Whilist the files copy across players may recieve additional error messages, the patch will keep looking so please do not worry about loosing the download. We are still looking at alternative soloutions as well, so things will keep improving and I shall keep you up-dated.
12.28 (BST) We are still opening up the US data centre, at the moment we are copying across the files we hope to have all the patch files copied over shortly. The other option that we hope to have available soon is to make the a new, fully updated client available to you through alternative download sites. Unfortunately Turbine are unable to produce standalone patches, so the only alternative is a fully updated client. I will of course keep you updated.
13.30 (BST) The US data centre is almost fully open with all the files copied across. We are also working with a partner to provide an independent download of the new client. This will of course need some QA time once it has been received from Turbine so please do not expect it immediately. Once again, we apologise for the problems that you are facing. The problems came about due to a surprisingly high demand (which of course is very welcome), which in turn led to some technical issues coming to light at the most inopportune moment. Please do not misconstrue this as an excuse for the last 24 hours, but rather accept it as an explanation as to how the situation arose. I have also tackled the VP of COG and he has assured me that there will be compensation as a result of the current problem.
14.49 (BST) We are expecting a new build soon and hope to have it entering QA as soon as possible.
16.05 (BST) The newest build fully updated to module 3.0 is now in QA. It appears to be working ok, so I will let you know as soon as possible what's happening.
16.49 (BST) Breaking News - We have managed to resolve the hardware issues that we faced which should have resulted in almost double the bandwidth now being available. This will hopefully filter down to current patchers soon.
18.26 (BST) The new build has not passed QA process. We shall not be releasing this build as it there is a chance that it could cause problems for you. We have instead focused on improving patching solutions. We have resolved the hardware issues and this as resulted in an increased download rate available to players. We are also starting to see players enter the game world in higher numbers, this should indicate that players are nearing completion and this should further free up the bandwidth we had.
Thanks for your patience with this. I can only apologise for the situation we have found ourselves in and we will be working to ensure that this doesn't happen again. I have seen that some of you have good questions and I will hopefully address these soon.
Please persevere and you should see the patch completed soon.

need i go on? any new player wishing to try this game, dont at the moment as you will waste 30hours + downloading all the relevant patches. which is around 1.3gig of data on a 5KBS bandwidth.
Pathetic
Here in the USA I was getting 90-120KB per second.
Sorry to hear it took so long for you. Took no more than 4 hours for me to patch from a fresh install so I guess I don't understand where your coming from. As far as DDO and Mod 3 not mixing.... not quite sure I understand what you mean. I have had situations far worse then DDO in terms of patching and time.
4 hours? wow took me 20 minutes whole patch , but for what?? today 10/27/06 time: 7:00 Pm in the night all the servers are down
took 20 minutes for me weds evening.
thats probably because a) you live in American and b) Codemasters would have ensured this didnt happen in the states.
Only European servers were effected.

If you read what I wrote....
yeah I was getting crappy speeds too, so you know what? I just waited a day so they could fix the problem and from the 4.0kb/s I was getting I jumped to 80-100kb/s..
it was an annoying patch but c'mon, all online games have these things happen to them from time to time, it's not UNHEARD of.
Think of WoW
Have played:
UO, WOW, COH/V, EQ2
Currently playing:
Age of Conan (EU)
connections. 5 kb/s is at dialup times, not before them.
