Prominent Anti-Gay Pastor Caught In Gay Relationship ???

Man claims 3-year sexual relationship with pastor

DENVER - A gay man and admitted male
escort claims he has had an ongoing sexual
relationship with a
well-known Evangelical pastor from Colorado Springs.

Mike Jones told 9 Wants to Know
Investigative Reporter Paula Woodward he has had a "sexual business"
relationship with Pastor Ted Haggard for the past three years.

Haggard is the founder and senior leader of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. The church has 14,000 members.

He is also president of the National Association of Evangelicals, an organization that represents millions of people.

Haggard is married with five children and an outspoken critic of gay marriage.

Jones came forward Wednesday morning on talk radio.

In an exclusive interview Wednesday night, Haggard denied the claims
and told 9NEWS he is prepared for his own church to investigate them.

"I did not have a homosexual relationship with a man in Denver,"
said Haggard. "I am steady with my wife. I'm faithful to my wife."

"I don't know if this is election year politics or if this has to do
with the marriage amendment or what it is, but I'm not even the guy who
will investigate it or question it. I don't know what the dynamics are,
but this independent group will come in and do that."

Jones started talking to 9 Wants to Know two months ago. He claims
Haggard has been paying him for sex over the past three years, even
though Haggard preaches that homosexuality is a sin.

Jones also claims Haggard used methamphetamine in his presence on several occasions.

"People may look at me and think what I've done is immoral, but I
think I had to do the moral thing in my mind and that is expose someone
who is preaching one thing and doing the opposite behind everybody's
back," said Jones.

Former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw profiled Haggard in 2005 in a
series on mega-churches. Haggard was also listed by Time magazine as
one of the 25 most influential Evangelicals in America last year.

9NEWS and 9NEWS.com will continue to update this story as information becomes available.

The title in this thread is very misleading.. being accused of something is hardly the same as being caught doing something.

ANyway, I hope it isn't true, Christians have been coming under a lot of fire lately because of loud mouths like Mel Gibson who like to be preachy and then go against what they claim to believe.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Mike Jones is sleeping with an evangelical pastor? His last CD must have been a flop.

I was just looking at the news and read some more about this story.
Seems the pastor that the OP put the thread up about has now quit.  There must be more to the story.  And the guy accusing him of it claims to have physical proof.

When are people going to quit making a big deal about homosexuality?  It's obvious there's more to it than the old beliefs.  Now someone who preaches against it is accused of it.  If it's true, then what does that mean?  Even the people who are adamantly against it are secretly doing it.  So, I'm sure there are tons more in denial living a fake life.  It's not fair to them or the people they marry and have kids with.  Didn't you guys see Brokeback Mountain?  What a tragedy!  image

Apparently the US media reports all the important stories that people want to know about.

Stuff like airplane crashes, murders, natural catastrophes(that killed people), exciting stuff celebrities are doing, govt controversies, and local knee-jerk bible moral homosexual shock stories that might have an impact on an election.image

I'm just asking, but are you trying to divert the focus on this story.  Granted the guy making the claims is immoral as hell, but it is the head of the Evangelicals who posted an ad in a newspaper asking for a guy escort.  It is the head of the Evangelicals pushing for the voters in Colorado to vote for an amendment against gay marriage.  It is the head of the Evangelicals who went through and had sex with this guy for years while he was married and has children.  And it is the head of the Evangelicals who was doing the meth.

If the head of the Evangelicals hadn't done all of those things there wouldn't be any story.  Right?

Im not trying to divert the focus of the story . Im just saying everytime a story like this comes out in the media its like a snowball effect. More and more of these types of stories pop-up as the medias obsession increases until something more shocking comes out, like a horrific plane crash or bombing.

I just wanted to point out that this is the guy from the RICHARD DAWKINGS video; this is the evangelist that he talks to about evolution etc.  I know you guys are obsessed with that book and video.  yes this is the richard dawkings from the recent SOUTH PARK episode.

Because generally I feel that not much is truly known about these things, at least to me, I keep my nose out of a lot of stuff; but I will say this guy TED HAGGARD has always creeped me right tf out.  Homosexuality has nothing to do with that, though.

EDIT: also, you guys gotta check out that video made my Evangelists called George Bush: Faith in the White House. It poses as an unbiased documentary but it's actually just a hilarious, scripted, piece of propaganda to get Christians to vote for Bush based on his religious beliefs.  there is much TED HAGGARD in it.

He's admitted to the meth and now a "massage" from the guy.

Now, another marriage is ruined because people are not allowed to be themselves.  Why can't people just give up on this hatred for homosexuals and let people be with who they love?  He has 5 kids who are now going to be hurt by this along with a wife.

I honestly feel sorry for the guy.  I feel sorry for him and his family.  It's like that mayor of New Jersey who came out of the closet after having kids and being married.  Now people are hurt when it could have never happened.

    Wait.

How can someone be a Christian preacher and be gay at the same time?  That's impossible.  I mean, the guy prays to the Lord everyday.

I bet his congregation and all the evangelicals out there praying will make him straight.  He's going to be okay.

How you somehow try to blame that on the people who create a stigma for homosexuality, is absolutely absurd.

For once I agree with Reavo...he isn't blaming the people that create the stigma behind homosexuality...he said that it's terrible that people can't just be themselves, what I got out of that is that Reavo thinks that the guy was probably gay all along and just didn't want to accept it.

Personally, I think that the guy is just very troubled, and confused...he says that he bought meth, but never used it, and that the guy gave him a massage...for a straight, and married man, that is very troubling...It's a real shame when something like this happens with an outspoken Christian, it really sheds a bad light on us all when one of our own is seen as a massive hypocrite.

Nobody put a gun to his head and made him do anything by that kind of force.  But there are other ways that people can be forced into a situation.  If he took his religion serious enough then the fear of going to hell may have forced him into this situation.

I'm not saying it's not his fault.  Don't get me wrong.  But there are times when there is enough fault to go around to plenty of people.  Eventually, nature is going to be too strong to deny.  If someone is gay, they are gay.  That means that by nature they are attracted to the same sex, both sexually and emotionally.  I'm sure he loves his kids, but I would be that he felt as lonely with his wife as he could have felt by himself.  And that loneliness can get to a person.

Wow, I'm not even a Christian and I'm cutting the guy more slack than you.  I wouldn't judge anyone like that.  You never know what he was going through.  Now his congregation that he preached forgiveness to is going to be tested.  And he is probably going to realize what his message of intolerance can do to others.

    Reavo, you're right.

At first I admit that I felt kind of a "gotcha" towards this guy.  But that's not right.  And I do feel sorry for him.  And I feel bad that I thought what I thought at first.  I'm ashamed of it.

I hope that everything works out for the best for him and his kids.  I feel sorry for his wife as well.

Things like this are never going to end until society quits pressuring people to act like someone they're not and live up to who they really are.  And the freedom will come for others to be with who they really love.  Then we will all benefit.

At the middle school I teach at, there are two 8th grade boys who hold hands.  The funny thing is, none of the other kids care.  They are two of the most popular kids in the 8th grade.  Nobody bothers them at all.

I think perhaps things are going to get better.  From what I've seen the younger generations are going to kick these old prejudices to the curb.

*sigh* Well, I guess I'm split about the issue. I guess people make mistakes...in this case a HUGE mistake. But he was so outspoken about gay marriage, very head strong about the issue (i guess you can call him a hypocrite to some extent). Well i hope the prayers of the church members will come through and help the preacher out.

I really agree, you really can't judge someone who has done wrong when you yourself have done wrong.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
