Eve or EQ2?

I've played them both before, and I liked them both, but I only can subscribe to one. Since I already am subscribed to another mmo. Which one would you choose? And please give a reason whyimage

EvE if you have time, EQ2 if you dont... as simple as that, if you liked both then both are for you :)

I'd say EVE since with the real-time skill training your time playing another MMO won't effect your character progression skill point wise.

The games are totally different so it depends on what you want to play. I can't really make a recommendation other than what the poster above me already said about skills being learned in real time. I also have played both games and think they are both good. The one problem I have with EQ2 is that it is very similar to almost every other fantasy MMO out there although it has outstanding graphics if you have the pc setup to display them.

Both have very exciting futures but when EOF comes out for EQ2 then buy that expansion because you get the orginal game plus all the other expansions :)

EVE is a good game but i get a feeling u wont stick to it as much as EQ2, speciially with EOF coming out

If you wanted to fly around in nothing with a spaceship and shoot your guns pew pew pew, play eve.

If you want to have a character and run around on a world and hit things with things SLISH SLASH SLOSH, then play eq2.

Personally id say go with eq2, but just because i was bored in eve the 2 times i gave it a trial, but im realllly not a sci fi person.

I think if you are going to play it as a second game, I would recommend EVE.  That way you can still train even when you are not logged on, while with EQ2 you need to play to level.  So if you tried them both and like them both, I guess I say EVE.

Well if I had to choose between 2 crappy games I would pick EvE. It may take time but it's the perfect thing to relax in when you are tired of the other mmorpg and need a break. Relax make some food and watch your ship mine for hours, or watch the screen saver mode of traveling through space, and eventually you'll pvp and have what many people consider best pvp today.....

Crappy games? EvE is quite possibly the most complex MMORPG out there with beautiful graphics and opportunities of unprecedented scale. I mean things like Guiding Hand Assasins guild alone makes it worth it to play the game.

I would think twice before calling either one of these games crappy.

EvE is the obvious choice though.

What is the "Guiding Hand Assasins guild" and what is so amazing about it?

    EVE hands down.

Joining a player corporation is CRITICAL in Eve.  I quit twice playing solo.  I then returned and joined a player corporation and never looked back.

What the previous poster said about flying around in space and shooting nothing (or something like that) may be your experience if you go the wrong way in this game.  Plug into player corporations.  Learn about corporation warfare and territory.  That is the heart and soul of this game.

    And it ROCKS........

OK, what does it actually involve? From what I've seen of the game, corporate wars over territory are about who can PVE grind the most cash to keep putting down POSs. Holding territory itself doesn't give you any benefit, only PVE grinding inside of that territory does.

Ok my advice is simple since you stated you have played and ENJOY both games:
In EQ2 you can't improve unless you are playing.  Thus it's a bad '2nd' MMO to be subscribed to since if you're not playing it your money is wasted.

EVE, on the other hand, works VERY well as a 2nd MMO because you don't have to be online for your skills to be improving.  IE: Even if you're not actually playing it you can still be working on your character, even when you're offline playing your other MMO.

    So go with EVE

    Pantastic,

When you join a corp, you become aware and subject to the more subtle points in Eve.  Corp verses corp warfare, corporate strategy (yes, players spend lots of time planning corporate expansion), hangar priviliges, corporate economy, roles and priviliges of corporate officers, recruitment, strategically moving into a solar system and controlling it, allocation of responsibility, ascertainment of equipment, building player owned structures, learning battle manuevers with your corp mates, mining 0.0 space, hunting and killing other players methodically, recruitment, corporate reputation, mega corporations and the power they wield, imagine being the CEO of a mega corp, imagine being a top gun for a mega corp and having the financial backing to purchase any ship you need, imagine moving into a system with 30 of your corp mates and killing everyone in that system after which you rake the wreckage for the valuable components that used to make up their ships.

Compare the list above to the solo player.  Mine/sell, agent mission/reward, get new ship, get bigger ship, lose new ship, get new ship......

This game is about relationships.  Its about corporate politics.  It is about territories and corporate war.  Fleet command.  Backstabbing, corporate infiltration.  It can be about joining a corp when you are really a member of another corp so that you can get in a position to betray the corp you are pretending to join so that your real corp can benefit from the theft of the your victim's goods.

Eve Rocks.  This game has it all.  But if you never get past first base, you will never see it.

I'd go with EQ2 I like it very much if my PC were not so outdate I
would be playing it right now =( I played them both and EvE was too
slow and stuff but the community of EvE It's the best of any MMO I have
ever played, But yeah I'd go with EQ2 =)

    Wallo =)

LOL, I certainly wouldn't ask this question on MMORPG.com as they Eve Fanboi come out of the woodwork, God love 'em.

But for me EQ2 hands down.  As long as you have a beefy enough machine or don't mind running on lower graphic settings the game is great.

There are links to a better description, but someone else will have to provide it.

The name is actually Guiding Hand Social Club, and what they did as far as I know is unprecedented in MMORPG history.

Pretty much they were paid to infiltrate this one powerful corp. They sent in sleeper agents, those agents settled into their target and became upstanding members of that corp. Acting as anyone would expect, when they gained enough trust and granted the necessary privledges and access, they struck.

First they cleaned out the corp wallet, and also made off with several expensive tech 2 BPOs and items. The net worth IIRC was over 30 billion ISK.

The real kicker however was the ambush and podding of the corp CEO, an important detail was that she was flying an imperial issue apoc (if that is the name), were there are only a few others like it in the game.

In short, they gained their trust, and stabbed them in the back in a rather spectacular manner. A most deplorable crime, but you gotta admit, you can't do that in any other MMO.

    EQ2.

In Eve, i always fell asleep while jumping from system to system.

They are both very different games. EQ2 is very much a 'normal' MMO, it's similar to almost every other MMO out there as it has classes, levels, swords and shields and all that. EVE is different, you don't really control your avatar, there's no magic, no shields, no knights no stuff like that. In this respect it's a bit more difficult to relate to your alter ego.

The thing is that EVE is more than mining or doing missions, more than slow paced stuff. People who describe EVE that way probably haven't played beyond the beta or never really tried and play the game properly. These people should keep their uninformed opinions to themselves (this being the retardweb it's kinda too much to hope for).

EVE is essentially one big playground with as little rules as possible. You're a kid there and are given a shovel and a knife. It's totally up to you if you want to build something cool with that shovel or want to bash someone over the head with it. Either way, you should be prepared for the other kids that have a shovel as well, are they going to beat you up, are they going to destroy the cool castle you built or are they going to build something WITH you. It's up to your people skills and perception to figure out what they want and if possible talk them into doing something that helps you.

You could also SAY you're helping them and then while standing behind them drive that knife into their backs, nicking the guy's shovel and claiming what he built to be yours. By doing so you taunt others to come near you to hit them with your shovel.

EVE is about being active, being smart and outperforming your opponent. If you can do that you'll win and end up on top of the foodchain, if you can't you'll lose your ship, your assets and your time invested. It doesn't get anymore PVP than that. This goes for the shooting bit, the 'crafting' bit, the trading part, the mining part and the politics, politics are probably the most important thing in EVE. It's all about competing with others for resources, money, influence and assets. And BECAUSE your ass is always on the line competing/fighting/killing/dieing always generates a ton of adrenaline.

However, not everyone gets to a point where they can see that and not everyone can cope with that harsh 'reality'. The ones that can't will whine about how the game sucks and how the other players are evil baby eating monsters. The ones that DO see it and who try to help people understand the game (like me) help people getting started in the game, help them out with advise and all that.

The game is not for everyone though, it really is a marmite game
