I found this thread http://soe.lithium.com/swg/board/message?board.id=swggpdiscussion&message.id=1226156&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 and couldn't help but notice the WoW reference, the irony is that with The Burning Crusade it seems Blizzard will be adopting an honor system that is very similar to how SWG used to work with faction points, oyu use Honor points as a new form of currency to buy equipment

Ok SWG had a FRS system. Which you never played, but numerous people who have played both WOW's honor sytems and the FRS admit it is a blatant WOW rip off? So who is wrong here? Is it the majority that doesn't subrscribe to SWG or the 7 million people who play WOW and look at your Friday feature and laugh? Werent they supposed to have updated wekly GCW status boards? or did that go the way of the collision system and how many other things listed on that publish plan?

SWG's new rank system works different to how WoW's did. WoW's was PvP only, whereas SWG's is both PvE and PvP with more PvE being the more efficent side. WoW had a limit on how many people could be in each rank where SWG's doesn't. WoW had decay at all ranks, SWG only has decay at the final 6 ranks. WoW's also took into account the number of kills, where SWG's doesn't.
Earlier today they posted a list of people that moved up to the first Officer rank. Heh, how is it my fault that there's no in game status board or collision system?
Obraik is correct.. as for swg's new Faction system well it is very close if not an exact carbon copy of the honor system that blizzard is replacing ( it just isn't the success they had thought it would be), that the planned improvements look to be very close if not an exact carbon copy of swg's old faction point system screams that the original faction point system in swg did not need to be replaced merely improved.
It is rather amusing that soe has copied the worst aspect of WoW pvp the "faction grind" even as blizzard moves to replace it with a more friendly faction point system.
Lets not forget that the expansion for wow is also planned to contain siege warfare, if what they have been showing hits live I may very well drop back into wow for a while for a look see

I believe that Obraik is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, I've never seen him say one negative thing about SOE or SWG, he talks like the Iraqi Information Minister, and just plain annoying to read because he's so blinded to the truth. I bet if you met him in real life and stole his car once a year, he'd tell you it's ok and would start giving you money to buy the gas to drive HIS car. That's how sick he is. My advice is to laugh at his posts and not bother replying because you'll get more sense out of talking to a wall.

That may be "ironic" if this forum was populated by WoW Fanboi's.. which last I knew most people in this forum hate WoW.
WoW from the start was supposed to be emulating the positives (as their devs saw it) from many games. Everyone knew they "copied" the stuff that worked.
So ya I personally don't get that statement either... its not ironic...
I mean its a "if you posted that in a WoW forum" ironic in that it would piss off the fanboi's.. but in the SWG forum it just doesn't work.
I would label it more as sarcasm I think...if "everyone" knew WoW copied the positives from many games then why do we see so much "SWG is copying wow?!" or "This is from WoW! Soe stole it!!" [Note: SWG Forums, not here]. No, not everyone thinks WoW is the culmination of the standard MMO, where its relatively polished and working. I don't believe much in WoW is original, its just improved over what has been seen in past MMOs (mostly the fantasy ones...which seem to be all the bloody same, -if- I wanted to play a fantasy mmo, WoW would be my choice...but Im a sci-fi guy).
Yet, there are SO many people who so believe that WoW came first, and *everyone* is copying WoW's features. I think that's the point Obraik was making; to many folks everyone copies off WoW and WoW doesn't copy off of everyone else. Which is absolutely not the case (what companies really are trying to copy is the service WoW offers - ie "If we have a fantasy game that plays like WoW and is as polished, then we'll get 6 million customers!" which is ironic in itself since that's pretty narrow thinking (much like Nancy McIntyre's NGE remarks a year ago)).
And the true irony here though is, swg moved to a more standard ranking type system where as WoW moved to a more flexible faction-point style system (as I've read). SWG stole second base where as WoW went back to first, they switched...its irony...its funny. As for the rest, some of you I think are getting too stressed out on Obraik's remark....as many of us may know that WoW isn't original at all and took many other ideas from past MMOs too, but the vast majority of folks out there simply don't.
Whats funny in the first place is comparing anything WoW to SWG is so far off the radar, it's not funny.
The honor system rip off or change is funny, BUT saying that WoW would want to copy ANYTHING SWG would be certain death.
If anything, they copy good games not bad ones.

I debate with Obraik time to time or whatever you want to call different point of view on a forum.
Yet I don't really thing he is an NGE lover/troll. At least what he states is his opinion (even if I don't agree) as opposed to a certain few others that .. live in some alternate reality.
The only thing I really have never agreed with Obraik on is population or the NGE "gaining" customers. Beyond that .. whatever we all have our points of view.
In this thread I just wasn't sure where he was coming from with the WoW statement... I guess I understand as other have posted but.. I still say in this paticular forum it really didn't make sense.. even as sarcasm.
overall this entire website seems rather hostile to WoW really...
Altho I do know that many see WarCraft as the first... and that when Warhammer online was mentioned that started talking about a wow clone.
Even tho WarHammer existed before Warcraft.. but whatever.
I may not like Mythic but they had at one time one of the better RvR/PvP systems.. which imho is WoW's weak point.
As another poster stated.. if I really wanted to play a fantasy game I guess WoW would be it.
I went back to my AO froob account.. because its free... and at least the skins aren't dwarves, trolls and fairies...
Just waiting for something better...
Altho I'm seriously looking at going console.. which makes me shudder. I see a few games some XB360 exclusives that look interesting to *me* and that's about the first time I can really say that.
The upcoming MMO's just.. suck.. well at least the ones I'm in beta for.
Only hope I have left is Tabla Rasa.. or some obscure title.. or BioWare... Not sure Tabla Rasa will be any good but the game play videos lately make it look like it could be fun for a bit. Well Age of Conan looks pretty.. if the game play lived up the the screenshots.. I would play that as well.
I wasn't trying to be sarcastic.. I found it very ironic that soe copied wow's honor system and blizzard has decided it wasn't good enough and their choice for improvement is a system that soe actually scrapped, even as the soe boards start getting posts like the one I linked that can easily be found on the wow boards.. the insane grind for honor ranks in wow is starting to sound easy compaired to what people are saying about the new setup in swg.
As for my opinion on wow I actually like the game and logged /played of 98 days on 1 character alone in just over a year and as I stated in my second post if the xpac is as good as it looks it is very likely I'll pick it up and check it out

I was talking about Obraik and what he said... but now that I know he said a while back there was a conversation "here" about WoW NOT copying I understand.
It was the "wow doesn't copy" thing that got me to post and that was the only thing I was referring to about sarcasm.
Anyway.. ya WoW is a good game I enjoy it when I play it.. but for some reason I didn't have the urge to log in. Where NGE SWG... I neither enjoy nor do I want to log in...

I have to think there is a level of forgivness or acceptance he must have that is not reached by a majority of people at this point. It's that simple I think.
Because if this game or product was a car we would all be dead by now.
I just had a conversation with someone who got in it a month for his younger newphew that wanted to play it again... that lasted less then a hour.
First thing said was combat and feel was not the same and was twitchy, bad and not smooth at all.
Second thing he said was that he did not feel like he was playing a game with other people now... it seemed very distant from anyone.
Third was that he did not like the forced professions and then concept of paying to change, after one time having the choice and then having it taken away made no sense.
Then they logged out and that was that.
That right there is just some but real and actual truths to the games status. This is not a opinion... this is just real and the way it is. That is what some people still do not grasp. Sucks yes, but real.
And to think -- at one time they were fixing issues.
