Im pretty partial to a few games, and I play alot of them. This question seemed simple at first, but as I thought about it, it became much more difficult.
Id have to say Thief Gold Edition was a great game, definately count it as an all time favorite, and the sequel was amazing as well.
Tenchu 1. One of my all-time favorites. Up until then ninja games were all about running around fighting with a sword. Tenchu was one of the first serious stealth games I got into other than the first Metal Gears.
The Prince of Persia series sticks out for me as well. The first one was pretty hard, but I had a ball figuring out all the traps and riddles. I am also a fan of the Sands of Time. Seeing all those deathtraps and puzzles in 3D was great.
Im almost finished with Pandora Tomorrow, but id have to say the Splinter Cell series is absolutely amazing. the missions are great, the story is in depth and well-thought out. Gameplay is dead on. Seriously good games. Played a bit of Double Agent, but wanted to finish the second one before I started getting into it.
For MMO's Id have to list DAOC on the basis of the people I met and the fun I had. I still game with friends from DAOC even though we play different online games. It may not be the best MMO out there, but it was the fun we made of the game which added to it. I have alot of good memories from EQ1, but DAOC really defined the MMO for me.
I also have to list City of Heroes, it got pretty boring after a few months, but again I ran a great guild of Golden Age style heroes. We actually became known for our reputations as heroes in game and would not only play missions but help out other players in need. That was alot of fun.
Strider, Ultima:Exodus, Secret of Mana, Phantasy Star Series, Final Fantasy, Bionic Commando, Metal Gear Solid, Mortal Combat, Tekken, Dead or Alive, I really could keep going on and on, but I think most of the games we really enjoy are what we make of them and our love for the theme/setting/genre.
