Is FFXI Worth Buying?

SkilletSkillet Member Posts: 2

Is this game worth goin out and buying?  I have been a fan of Final Fantasy since the Nintendo era and I was just wondering if it's worth buying.  How does the game play, is it like EQ?  How easy is the gameplay and controls?  Is it something I'm gonna get bored of after a few days of playin?

Thx any input here will be greatly appreciated.

If you are a FF fan then yes. Buy this. Preferably on the PS2 but if you have no choice...then go for the computer version. The game has flaws like any developing MMORPG. But its addictive, fun, fresh, and...final fantasy! Graphics are REALLY nice too. Control scheme is a bit iffy. For the PC version.

If i were you i would get the p.c. just because it's much more powerful than the ps2. I've heard that you can get some pretty bad fps for the ps2 im not sure, you'll have to read more on it at http://ffvault.ign.com there should be a column that says "pc vs. Ps2". And the controls at first on the pc will take you about a week at the most to master all the controls, after that it never gets in the way.

     Hope that helps.

There are two things you need  in order to make final fantasy XI worth your while.

    1. Can you deal with a game that is no more adavanced that everquest.  Meaning slow combat, boaring travel, and the grind.

Definition: GRIND:  The term used my mmorpgers to discribe the process of leveling.  Killing monsters over and over again, doing quests over and over again.  In a slow and tedious manner intentionaly programed into the game by it's developers to slow player progression and to increese the life of the game.

    2.  A love for Final Fantasy in general.

If you have both of these things then hell yes it's worth your time.  If not, then your better off playing your single player rpgs, you find alot more enjoyment there.

    -  PS:  Also you must remember that unlike single player Final Fantasy games, you will not be a badass.  You wll be, more or less, like everybody else who plays that class and is of your same level.  It sucks but it's a fact of life in mmorpgs.

You didn't say it was the first FF game online, you said "it was the FIRST online RPG."

Game is deffinatly worth buying if you have time. I think its a little more fast paced then everquest and has better features and graphics. If you love any final fantasy game you'll love this one.

It's not faster.  Actualy if you look at the mechanics of the game, you'll notice that it actually takes much longer to level in final fantasy XI then EQ.   Plus dispite what people say there aren't nearly as many quests.  Although I will agree that the combat is faster pasted, and that the graphics are much much nicer.

Think how depressing it would be if you had seen all there was to see and done all there was to do. Creepy eh? I have nightmares about it...and I bet Sony did too. So they made it so it'll take a while to see it all. Like if you were to play 24/7 it would take a year to do it all.image

I bought FFXI when it first came out and i would say its not worht buying. For a number of reasons.

1.There is no form of pvp (although they say on FFXI website that a kingdom vs. kingdom pvp not pk will be released in the futture...whatever that means)

2.In no way can u solo past level 10 (unless you are a beastmaster)

3.Linkshells FXI's form of clan is week and limited

4.The leveling is slow and boring

5.The story progression is slow and boring

    6. For one of the newest mmo's on the market it sure does lack lots of good qualities that older mmorpgs can offer

Although i cant say FFXI is all bad i did take the time to make a lvl 50 paladin i just think sense their are so many good titles coming out soon that you should just wait tell then.

    there is pvp?

After playing EQ for years and playing FFXI since release I would say this:

    1) No, it's not EQ.  I leveled MUCH faster in EQ.

    2) You can't solo past lvl 10ish unless you have a Beastmaster ADVANCED job unlocked, which means you'll have to get to lvl 30 with a basic job.

My suggestion is:  If you LOVE the FF genre, then yes, buy it.  If you don't, pick another game.

I for one am moving to Lineage II once it goes live.  In that game you can solo or group at any level.  It's very well balanced.

I have several Asian friends. Does that mean their English should be bad, too? Somebody should tell them so they can start now.

Lets see now...Yes. It is definatly worth buying. If you don't think it is, then you have some really strange taste in games. I mean, its good looking, the other players are helpful, and all-in-all its just fun :-)

Is it worth buying...yes, and no.

It's a great game, fun and exciting the first 30 levels. Then, guess what? You get to do it again! Yes, go through the same old mill of mobs, dungeons, quests etc... Why? Because you will WANT to select one of the character types you couldnt get when you first logged on....you have to wait to get those till 30. Then you have to level THOSE. OMG...pant, pant...it was awful to trudge through the same old stuff over again. Yes, it's easier than the first time around, but still...gah, again?

Don't get me wrong, you don't HAVE to choose one of those character types. So you arent required to get on the tread mill...but the skills of the other classes will really tempt you to do it.

If you like crafting...well, don't plan on doing that for a while. It costs a FORTUNE. Plus it's very hard to do overall. In all reality their crafting system is pretty good and it keeps the economy in better order.

I enjoyed this game...then I hated this game. It was pretty sad actually...I wanted to keep going, but the leveling tread mill was simply TOO boring for me to keep at it.
