CORPSE RUN/STAT LOSS VERSUS LOOT LOSS

If when you die you had a choice of

   1) Stat loss and a corpse run and lets round it off and say it takes one hour to regain your skills to your present level.

   2) Loot loss and again we will round it off and say it takes one hour to reacquire the money you lost to re-equip.

Neither, a system I liked was where you gain some sort of gradual bonus for staying alive, and losing that when you die.

Neither of your choices appeals to me, both provide for exploitation by griefing elements that are rampant in games today.

    Neither.

I like significant experience loss like early EQ1 where you lose about 6 hours worth of experience and a corpse run on top of that.

Both, make death have real bite to it.

Make it have a real bite... but make it less prolific.

Stat loss is just a crappy way of doing death penalties, imho.

    I much prefer loot loss.

I also prefer loot loss. I dont like anything messing with my stats or anything that isnt physical.

Something physical that is lost..then sure. I dont mind loot loss (Neocron for example)

An old proposal of mine, and one I have yet to see done in a mainstream MMO. I prefer rewards for living, not penalties for dying.

I don't mind loot degradation if your toon dies. Corpse runs.. I don't really mind either, just as long as it doesn't take 30 minutes to reach it. If it takes.. 5 minutes.. sure that's not bad.

    I like both.....

Corpse runs and loot loss are each effective remedies for stupidity.

about 20-30 mins of stat loss to one-three skills depending on how often you die. and no no game that I know of has this.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Perma death, but no one really has the nads to implement it.   (I know, I know G&H is going to have Perma death, but I call lame since you play with others that don't have to flag for Perma Death if they don't want to.)

I hate games where it is like "OH MY GAWD YOU DIED!  YOU IDIOT!  IDIOT!  DON'T DIE".

Hi, its a game, damn i died.

Do you really have to beat me beacuse I died?

Id go for temporary stat loss.

Chronicles of Spellborn is going to employ rewarding non death instead of punishing death. Sounds like it will accomplish the same goal.

Trials of Ascension claims to have the balls to go with permadeath for everyone, but it's release is still way off so time will tell.

Temporary stat loss is for sissies, it doesn't make you respect the environment. People in WoW would kill themselves just to gate across the zone.

Death needs to sting, so I would say some experience loss with corpse run because you need to travel back to your corpse to gain any items back, it just makes sense. The proposed reward for non death in Chronicles of Spellborn may work just as well though, we shall see.

I voted for loot loss. If a game has pvp then you should also loose something when you have died. Stat loss is lame I find, loot loss is ok.

    I have never been very keen of death penalties, to be quite honest. Atleast not BIG ones. So I'd say stat losses; anything but EXP loss. I hate EXP loss ;_;

AMEN I think xp debt has become my most hated and pointly, fearless addition to MMO's.  In EQ you honestly got adrenaline pumping if you dropped to 25% hp.  Games have become like an over protective parent who puts a rubber cap on a kid to walk to the car.

I think the MMORPG's should permanently kill your character, but allow you to purchase a res from the developer for $20, billed to the credit card you subscribe with.

I liked UO. If you got killed (depending on what was on you of course) it was a pain and made you not want to die ( getting close was pretty exciting) , but you weren't too bad off if it happened.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

Actually, there is indeed ONE mmorpg that is out, is successfull, and has 100% permadeath. The one and only Strive for Power. SfP also has other intresting features not found in any other mmorpg. It is run by 1 guy who is British. I have posted about it before, but I am just one person. ::::08:: SfP has been out for 2+ years now.

When you die you die. Just like the permadeath in Diablo 2... the only other online MORPG that has permadeath. Alas, D2 is not a Mmorpg.
