Great news- the new boards are now in, the area is now 30x30. ALSO- Animals are to start spawning over the next few days (according to KFR, RedBedlam's leader).... JOY!!!
actaully, i was commenting on the fact that there is nothing but. However it is nice to see them instead of a barrien land of grass...and more grass....and more grass
Have they managed to name anyone yet? Or is it still guard02393a ?
If they can't be bothered to spend a few minutes making names for npc's, I'm still not impressed. Good grief, 8-bit games in the mid 80's had names for their npcs. There is just no excuse for being lazy on a commerical product that you intend people to pay for.
If they skimp on names and, until a few days from now, animal spawns, what other stuff in the code is being skimped on as well?
Redbedlam can call me when the game is finished; I've no desire to play an unfinished game, and asking players to do charity work to help pay for an unfinished product is assinine.
You do know that they are operating on a priority list that is diffrerent from yours, and they put names as a minor thing. And IMO it is. its just visiual.
when you stop to consiter the shear scale of this game already names become more than just a few minutes chore.
animals are begennign to spawn throughout the world today. and i am i nthe far south east waiting. we have one thousand three hundred square kilometers to populate with NPCs.
its taking time just to spawn them all. names are low on hte list of things to do. as traveling 30-100 KM on foot takes a god awful amout of time. i dont care what the NPC is called, as long as it is there when i finaly walk my ass into town.

Never asked you to play.
These are the two updates EVERYONE has been waiting for. I am sure the number of RV players will start to rise in the weeks ahead as people start to come back.

Keep dreaming, this game is dead.
Releasing an unpolished game and charging for it and lying about the state of it's incompleteness is a recipe for failure. The PC Zone review ensured that most people won't give it another chance.
Well this is the problem overall. Spawning stuff should be on auto shouldnt it ? Do the devs have to do it manually every time ? I'm confused. As someone mentions this update goes to please people who have bought the game, and it doesnt go anywhere with attracting new ones.....
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
Show me where they lied about the games completeness.
No, spawning was turned off because the animals caused heavy lag. Now, 2 months later, they have put them in. Doubt it is manual, that would be stupid. However, maybe the initial spawns were manual to make sure everything was running fine.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Sorry, i seemed to miss that written rule in... www.rulesofmmorpgs.com , can you point it out please. It should be a given, I guess now I know what kind of intelligence is required for some to buy this game and like it. You are telling me a game isnt suppsoed to be ready to play at release, WoW.

Did RedBedLam go on an advertising blitz just prior to release touting the greatness of their game and why we should all buy it? Did you see Roma Victor talked about and hyped on hundreds of gaming websites? Did you walk into your local software store and find a huge display with little boxes to let you preorder the game? Did the Wall Street Journal do a stock analysis on RBL?
No. It was a quiet release and one only done through their own website where a 15 minute read of their game status page plus some perusing of their forums gave any idiot a good idea of the state of the game and what they would be buying. I for one clearly understood I was buying a work-in-progress at release. There were several paragraphs to read on their site about RBL's plan to start small (10x10 kilometer world) with a limited game population and grow from there. I also knew exactly which skill trees and game features were not implemented yet. There was no purposeful deception. No tricks. Yes, I was a little surprised the NPC guards had numbers for names and saw other unfinished areas in the game, but the fact is that in the RV forums only players who have purchased the game can see, the developers are very honest about what their priorities are. It's been very refreshing to see game developers who listen and respond to player concerns directly and on a daily basis.
Hah. Seriously people, stop being arses. I've been playing this game for almost an year now, and I seriously think that this sort of fanboyism hurts the game more than anything else. This game is improving, it has never been perfect, it is not good, but a limited number of people manages to love it. Trying to force a buggy game on people, like how you, simp et co., have been trying to do, does more harm to RV than good.
If RV improves/if people realize that they may end up liking it, the good. Otherwise just stop. I personally find the potential RV has to be a fantastic free PvP sandbox game is the reason that keeps me playing. It has not reached it yet, but I play with that in mind, and with the community. Every other reason they give you other than being a nice sandbox game is BS, IMO.
Have to say the batch of updates this week are encouraging at least.
Some more screens at this point would be nice, with animals, handcarts, medium roundhouses and swimming all shown so those of us holding off can make an assessment of where the game stands now.
Trust me, if you didnt like it before, you wont like it now.
True, we have animals; they even drop dung, which s like the single most valuable item in the world right now.
We have handcarts, which does tip the economy very hard.
We have new lands, this is also awesome.
But, the animals dont walk, they just hover around. Hopefully there will be a fix for this soon, but no one, even in the community thinks its that important. The carts work, but they are very hard to build, easy to raid and the wheels dont turn. The new lands are still fairly empty of any NPCs. No encounters, yet, no animals, yet (spawn placement is as KFR can do it, manually) and because the LLM system is a little borked unbuildable boards most likely will stay that way. At least for the next few weeks.
That said, it is a fun game, and no one really realizes what having a 30x30 Kilometer play area means. Its truly amazing to see the shear scale of everything. For example, to navigate around players are building their own maps (no in game map, cause the Romans did not use them as we know them) the map is, in full scale 300,000 pixels square the file for that map is in fact so big that I dont work with it directly. The animals are fun, the other day several people had a blast running around trying to catch the hover chickens (they are really fast) the wolves are apparently fairly good for training combat, though I wouldnt jump in game and expect to fight them to gain skills, wait until you know your way around a little better. Fighting more than one opponent is very hard in this game.
Crafting is extremely complex, and gets more so with every new item. Combat is getting more complex too. Though at a slower rate, because there are some User Interface issues that make more combat abilities pointless.
However, the other day, a few players were asked to work with the client coder for the game, we tracked down some bugs, and have a fix for the most common bug that should be out today. And the coder says that he thinks he fixed the ZBTS crash but we (the testers) are to keep an eye out for it over the next few weeks in case it has some different modes he didnt fix. On top of that, the community is very good at helping new players around. If you are getting frustrated, ask anyone to help, the only ones who will not, probably just started, and are fairly likely to leave soon anyway. Its a close nit community, and the state of the game really makes it stay that way. So you will understand if we dont want to make it more WOW n00b friendly, we like our current community.
Oh, and I think this was supposed to be a leak, Jooky, the client coder, hinted that there is a surprise in the works. While that is all I have been told, I do know that the UI overhaul was supposed to be both high priority, and nearing completion. So this month was great for both new features and bug stomping, but next month looks to be at least as good if not better.
Oh, and I dont think I can be called a fanboi, no one can say there is nothing wrong with the game, but we still love it. and being insulted by idiots and/or trolls will not change that.
1)Fans are actually supporting that people should have known they bought a very bugged product .Thats basically shows the game is indeed on deathbed.
Most other mmorpg even the diehard fans would rather say the developers need to fix things rather then say people should read the fine print that the game is a mess.
2)Fans having high hopes of people coming to the game purely based on something mmorpg been doing since the mid 90s.Adding in animal spawns. That again is just a low point. The game still remains a ghost town even with the multiple accounts running around. The actual players left is probably gone below 100.
That said I cannot blame the few fans left for having some hope no matter how small it is.Nothing worse then watching your favourite mmorpg waste away like happened to AC2.I recall shortly before they announced the closure of the game the vets there did everything in their power to make me at home even spending hours powerlevelling me even though I never asked for it ,they just offered and did it.
This game is far from dead. It is in fact expanding rapidly.
The game population was low, but has jumped. It was at no more than 500 active accounts, it has now at least tripled.
Call it whatever you like. This game is a radical change in the whole system and can not be judged in the same ranks as any other game. The devs worked for 5 years for free, now they have a small amount of money to toy with and do not plan to give up. call it dead, dont play it. I prefer to be by myself anyway.
About 30 player-owned merchants were set up on the streets of Corstopitum the past few days finally providing a way for crafters to sell their wares 24/7. You now see handcarts being built and used to haul large amounts of items. Two of the largest guilds in town have relocated to new areas and are starting to build their own villages. For the first time in weeks the barbarians mounted a sizable, organized attack against Corstopitum yesterday and we had to scramble to group up some legionaires and crafters with some fighting skills to drive them off.
RV is not thriving but there's no way it can be called "dead".

indeed, there are many new towns/forts...and trees...sooooooo mannnnny treeeeeeeees

the animal spawns are automatic, but animal spawn placement is manual.
so its taking a little time for population to come up.
