I finsihed jedi the day after light speed was released. I never really understood perma death. How did it work was it one death and that's it or so many in a certain time period? I feel like such a noob
If I remember correctly [its been a while...lol]. I think if you had a couple of deaths in a short time frame you, you could not play your jedi for like a week or 2. Keep in mind they went through a couple of revisions regarding perma death. I think in one version your skills also took a big hit as well.
You had 3-5 "lives". Lives regenerated 1 per week or something similar.
The skill loss was 1 box per death.
But most problems came, as always, from poor implementation.
For example, you died, lost 1 life. Cool, np. Then you cloned, with LS in hand, as you died. If anyone was in cloner, the saber tef kicked in, making you easy target, making it possible to get killed permanently. Or at least that's how I understood the issues.
In answer to your question it was 3 deaths per 7-10 days...
Why the 7-10 days? Well, I can tell you being a pub 6 unlocker, due to server resets and crashes.. this would throw off the clock in so many ways that none of us other then until they put in our command to "/check deaths " we had no idea the decay of our deaths over time.
Skill loss was the same in concept it just took away our highest skill box, which took a couple weeks to get at times.
But as mentioned above there is so many things that made it hard that I think it would be a very long post to explain it all.
Such as mentioned above... if you died, you had a saber in your hand, then cloned, then while the saber was in your hand you gave off visibility, which in turn then added to your being hunted, which also could mean ganked and tefed at the cloner with alot of OP faction people around, which then would mean 20 or more vs you.. causing more visibility, then bringing more BHs after you...
Not to mention losing everything on you including money, items, sabers and anything else you had on you.
So yeah, we had it pretty nasty in Perma death days... but I tell ya right now it was the best of times for me as a Jedi and I would give anything to see it back...
I would laugh my ass off at the new NGE Jedi..... they would not last 15 mins in the new system, in fact they cry now about a freaking robe....man, they have no idea about what is hard or not...
Unlocking Jedi was one thing, it was bad enough... but grinding one back then, took thinking and alot of planning...which is obvioulsy not needed now lol.

We saw a lot less of them and they spent most of their time hiding or running from something which is what they were meant to do. The candy ass jedi that populated SWG after they removed saber tefs skill loss and perma death made me want to wretch.
Bunch of pansy ass fairies is all they were. Spoiled brats with an "I win" button.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.

Lol, hey now.. Like I said, I knew my roll and it was not in a Star Port saying "I pwnzered you all with my polearm"...
We hid like fools and only fought if we thought we could or had to.
I will also had it was much earned and hard... plain and simple, if you did not accept that then you were in for a bad time with your Jedi.
Unlocking was the easy part-- even though that took time and effort.. it was the grind that got ya.

Since you didn't have the balls and intestinal fortitude to go thru what it took to become a jedi and since you have an obviouse disdain for jedi in general, maybe you would have been happier playing Star Trek?
I mean like really ... you are the one sounding like a spoiled brat that was too lazy to go thru what it took to become a jedi. Then because you felt like you should have pwnz all, but couldn't beat a jedi one on one you cry like a newborn babe.

But see there was room for people that did not want that in thier saga... and being one and having both a main and alt (in a time of when we were rare) was ok.
See, we were under the concept of this is the "Star Wars" universe... NOT the movie.. so this made things more vauge... I did not WANT to be Luke or a Jedi like that... I was Iskareot... a Lightside decent Jedi, that helped when he could but hid as well. Some of us just liked being left alone and playing the game, learning it, understanding the risks and loss with the reward of some minor power.
It had its moments but I can tell you that 90% of the people that play it now could not have been one in the past. I see what they think now, worry about, complain about and this is a joke... There is NOTHING game breaking or anything as severe of a loss to even complain about. From no visibilty , xp loss to decay and death.
There is nothing gained from being a Jedi now...they cheapened the class so bad that it's just a bad topic and bad Marketing ploy for the NGE.
Most of us old Knights quit the game, we left while we still had some honor left and knew what and when Jedi was fun and worth it.
In a way, human nature is alot to blame but mostly greed and money are to blame... SOE needed subs, from holos to the village to the NGE... each stage made Jedi worse...not better.
Pretty much the term being , "just because somthing is free does not mean it's worth it." applies here that is for sure.
I logged in recently to see my old Knight.... cut down, made into some sort of a poke poke poke slash toon that is nothing like he once was... smooth, hiding... rare... different, with penalty, rank and some sense of goals met.
Needless to say, it was the farthest thing from Jedi should have been. To bad though, it was a game within a game and had some sort of level in SWG that you could enjoy all on your own that was taken away.
Most of the NGErs don't even know what this was like or is like.... they claim it, but have no idea... almost like people saying "I know what Jedi was like" but were never one back then... those are my favorite...lol and odds are they are or have a Jedi now..heh
