Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

what would you choose between...

...Lineage II, WoW, Guild Wars, EQ2 and DDO? (those we have available at local retailers)

My prefernces are sandbox, mature community, deeply built-in crafting, skill-based system (not levels). (EQ2 is less priority 'cause this is SOE ad I tried Trial of the Isle and didn't like it at all (but heard main game is much better))

I'm of course pre-CU fan (left SWG after CU) and I have some r/l time to invest into a good game.

Any advice would be great!
Thx in advance.

I would not listen to this cat, from what i've seen he will love SWG no matter what is done to it. You would have better luck waiting around for another person to tell you. (no disrespect obraik)

Well out of all the games you listed, I have tried them all.  I am currently playing L2 with former SWG players.  It gets pretty boring, there really isnt much to do except grind and "YES" depending on which server you choose, you may encounter high level jerks that think it takes some kind of skill to PK a person that is level 7.  I guess MMORPG is offereing a 14 day trial in conjunction with L2.  I read it under the news but also read some of the comments about them having problems with the trial keys.  You might want to look into it as you really have nothing to lose.  If you care to look me up, I play on the Seighart server and the name is RavensSong.

Check out Rapplez.  Its supposed to be skill-based, but I haven't tried it yet.

Or you can check the Lineage 2 or SWG illegalities we are not supposed to speak of.

The problem with L2 trial is that european players can't use it (so am I). So thank you for the contact name - I will send you a tell when and if  I will be on.

As far as I know, all of the listed games are 100% class based. You're either a "Warrior" or a "Mage". The crafting in all games listed is pretty weak too.

Of the games listed I would have to recommend WoW. It breaks my heart to say it, because I hate 80% of WoW. It is still, in my opinion, the best MMO to be released in the last two years. image But there is a lot to be said for a game development company that is more concerned with fixing bugs that hitting deadlines. Passed Blizzard games (with good polish) and polish made WoW the 7 million monster that it is.

I strongly expect Blizzard to join my blacklist with EA and $OE in the very near future. I expect games with low polish, spam premium content releases (when you are already paying monthly!?!), etc. from Blizzard within 5 years. If they can avoid growth and money killing the company standards, it would be a first.

    Thanks for the class/crafting info.
I actually shortly tried WoW once at one of my friends' account - he plays it on regular basis. what I saw was more like teen game, not very serious one, like to have some fun and logout. isn't it so?

None of them is a sandbox game, unfortunately. EQ2 is probably closest to a sandbox of those you listed. The others are nothing ilke a sandbox. And since you don't want to pay SOE, I'm not sure you'll be happy with any of them.

I will suggest that you might want to try the Saga of Ryzom. The DL is a bear (2 GB I think), but you can try it for free for a while and see if you like it. That is a true sandbox game and, of all the games out there right now, is probably closest to pre-CU. Since it doesn't really sell retail anyway, but only via DL, it should not matter if your retailer carries it.

I have to admit I never heard that much about Ryzom and never saw it on shelves, but I checked it out. Everything looks awesome - skill-system and crfating and events everything. Checked forums and fan sites - community seems mature and welcoming. I have to try it out! Thx a lot Chessack
