There is a demo, although it is mainly a demo of the engine as I understand it.
Anyway, if you can read through these forums, the review of the game, look at the review and the player's rating scores, and go to the official game forums (www.darkandlight.net) and see what they say about it...and the only thing keeping you from trying the game is a lack of a demo then I really don't know what to tell you.

I have to agree completely.
MMORPG.com gave this game the lowest score ever when they rated it. I believe this was last month or so. That fact alone speaks volumes about the game.
Did you catch that? Lowest score. EVER.
This company has been sued into oblivion due to its horrific business practices. It borders on credit card fraud and flat-out scamming. They charged one guy up to $1300 on his credit card, and he hadn't even got it working yet.
To make matters even worse, they instituted a rule on the forums that if you say ANYTHING negative, you're instantly perma-banned, and then decided that this also applies to people who have technical issues (including with their credit cards). Locking your account also locks you out of account management, preventing you from unsubscribing.
So now you have people who bought the game, and this company racks up fake charges on their card, the game doesn't even work, and if you try to say anything about it, they lock your account and charge you some more.
Does this still sound like a game you want to try? Free or not, stay as far away from this garbage as possible.
Unlike many people on this forum, I like to try things for myself. Sure the game may be a flop, but I want to see for myself how much of a flop it is. I don't believe everything that I read either. People said SWG NGE was a flop, it's different, but it probably appeals to someone who never played Pre-CU or CU. An in-game demo for DnL would help me to decide. Sooner or later they will probably release one.
I heard about the game engine demo, that is not good enough for me to spend money. I want an actual in game demo experience with real players.
And better hope they make that demo before _Pix_ wins his case against 'em. Seeing as how they stole the engine from him. In fact, anyone who plays should be named as accomplices

don't know... I found hitting my fingers with a hammer quite exilarating compared to DnL! I would compare it more with getting struck in the head with a stapple gun several thousand times. A powerful staple gun...
Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.

Thats a horrible way to die, because then u go to D&L heaven.
@tepthtanis, I tried that once... i didnt survive.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
That's all that needs to be said to anyone who wants to try DNL. And it's the only thing that is 100% sure. On the entire earth.

There ya go!! Farlan should stop trying to pass off DnL as an mmo, and market it instead to those who like S&M
