I dont even play the game and I can answer yay : 1a. forgto bout thuis one, world is HUUUGE 900 square miles.... i think, and you getto run everywhere in it. 1. No 2. Yes, you even make your own sand 3no 4. thats up to people isnt it ? 5.no, you have to pay a one time fee and play as long as you like, in game money you buy with the fee goes a long way, so people are saying you dont need to buy any more through the developer. 6. Vets are fanbois they wont tell you about the flaws of the game, bottom line game is unfinished. 7.yes, alot of crafting. 8. so mature they like to pay for alpha testing.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
Nikoz78, ignore Gorukha. He is a recent troll here and as he just stated, doesn't even play the game.
How big is the world? 900 square kilometers of what is now northern England. Latest word from the devs is that it will be expanding sometime in the first half of next year. The current playable area has about 10 or so towns/villages/forts plus Hadrian's Wall. There are also player-built villages being constructed in other areas.
Can you play a Greek or live in Greece? You can choose your nationality to be Greek but right now it means nothing in game and Greece is not in the game. You don't look any different nor have any special capabilities. There was a barbarian guild made of up of all greeks but not sure if they are still around. The devs have stated that nationality will have an affect on your skin tone, hair, etc. after a future update of the game.
Is there player housing? Players can currently build small and medium sized roundhouses which are mainly used for storage and sometimes for protection from raiders. These roundhouses take many hours of labor to build and require several key skills. In the main Roman town many players have also been able to lease existing stone houses and workshops from the govenor. The houses have 3 rooms plus an open patio in which to store supplies and equipment. No furniture/tapestries/decorations of any kind implemented in game yet.
Is this a sand-box style MMO? Absolutely. I suspect RV will be become the true definition of that term if it isn't already.
Is there zones/instanceing? No instancing at all. All players are in the same world at the same time. There are zones though as each 1 by 1 kilometer area is a "board" and when you move across a border to another board, there is a about a 1 second delay.(and occasionally a game crash)
Is there RP? Huge opportunity for RP in this setting. Some guilds focus on it, others do not.
Is it fun? Depends on your tastes and also on what activities get generated by the players themselves. If you tire of grinding up your woodcutting skill, try and infiltrate an enemy village to steal their goods..err....ummm..demand tribute I mean. I can personally guarantee that will get your adrenilin pumping.
Is there crafting? Tons. Very detailed as well.
Is the community mature? Mostly. There are the occasional brats but they either don't stay long or become outcasts. The game mechanics force you to work together with others and it takes a certain level of maturity to do that.
As far as cost, most poeple have been able to survive without putting very much or none at all into the VERM but without luxury items and a true need for some of the more expensive weapons and armor they've not been forced to. I think the economy in RV is now going to get kickstarted with the patches that came this week adding hire-able NPC merchants, laborers, and guards as well as hand carts which are tripling the amount of inventory a player can carry.

I would not read the threads on this forum to get an idea, I wouldn't read their homepage either. You should either visit the Forum or even better, the Wiki/Manual
Hey guys, I for one am going to stop responding to Gorukha. He's not worth anybody's time. Take a look at a random sampling of some of his posts in other forums on this site which I will present, with no shame whatsoever, out of context:
"UK isnt a country."
"I got my accoutn banned on purpose 6 years ago, and there is noone that i knew that would play that crappy game now."
"I think the problem stems from people not having much experience with mmorpgs as a whole. For a person who has played 2 mmorpgs total, as opposed to a cool guy like me who has played 100s..."
"Just buy WoW and play it."
"You need at least 50 posts to be taken seriously on THESE forums jackass, seeing as you have 8 where do you get off advertising where you need 15 on your forums to even enter contests?"
And all this from somebody who claims to be 26 years old.
You are to tired to move! looking at the sun you believe you are facing south. If you wern't so hungry your skill would raise faster! Virtus folds his arms and turns his back to Gorukha!

Are you saying Rome isnt in the game, or am I misunderstanding your post? I thought you were supposed to have the option of starting out in Rome or in Brittania.

No, in the future the game will include all of the Roman Empire and more. But for now its *only* 900 square kilometers, in the next 6 months the plan is to expand the area again to something more like 130x60 KM but for this moment there is only South East Caledonia available, and for the next two years at least I can not see any expansions into even northern Gaul. Its all Britannia for the foreseeable future.
But its fun none the less. Plenty of politics, just no need for KFR to play as Comodus.
and to add a bit, you have the option to start out as a Roman, or a Free man.
Ok, thanks. Its been awhile since I checked on RV, so my memory may have just been hazy. I thought I had read a good bit about being able to start out in Rome, but my bad.

The 900 square kilometer map we have now takes several hours to walk across and is much more land than is needed for the current server population in my opinion. It's just plain HUGE. I just googled and found that the Roman Empire at it's peak was over 5 million square kilometers. Even if the population of Roma Victor got as large as WoW, there would still be vast areas of wilderness where nobody would go.

that is definitely huge.....

and the plan is for every last part of it to be brought into the game, the game was even started a the peak of roman power, 180 AD. we are now in 181 but thats not really an issue.
every square meter of that 5 million will be in game eventualy, and like i said more also. there has to be ballance i nthe factions. so the free men need to have at least some room to move around in. (i need aplace to base my rebellion afteral.)
eventualy i would say 6-10 miliion sq km is not too much to think of.
the 30x30 i think is pretty much perfect for even the small population we are working with currently, cuase now with there being a few other boards already open to build on, it has given guilds/communitys the opportunity to travel and settle, as well as get away from some of the politics they wanted nothing to do with....
As far as the OP to this post, I can only say what you have already heard by a few that replyed is true and very informative.... I will also say, what you make of RV is what you really want to make of it... Its form is totaly openly free play... My guild, a mix of both freemen and romans, started out in the mix of conflicts, where we were too small to really do or get anything done, But with this land expansion we have traveled and finnaly have become neutral to all factions, which will help us build and set forth our RP for the future of RV...
I will not say that the game is perfect, it has many flaws, But honestly there is no monthly fee, I do not have to worry about paying again unless i want to use my Verm, in which i have done 3 times , to put some Ses in my account as well has help RB alittle... But i will also tell you there is not a totaly need to Donate if you cannot, I have made money in game by doing various things....
Welp thats all i have to say for now... Oh and dont listen to that guy everyone is talking about i forgot how to spell his name, He is just a troll

Before you try Roma Victor, honestly ask yourself one thing; "will I enjoy a hardcore sandbox game based on reality?"
If your answer is anything but, "definately," you will likely be dissapointed.
Kemarik beat me to it, really. Not much else to say.
