Was all these posts by Helios used as a diversion? (His "red herring" post)

I must admit that the term "red herring" is only a term I have heard, not a term I had really ever used.

That being said, I must give credit to the two people below for bringing this up.

I thought most people could see it's all a big joke, hence the name Helios used, Red Herring Sqaudron. Something tells me Helios is on his way out.

*cough*red herring squadron*cough

They caught my curiosity so I looked up "exactly" what is meant by the term "red herring" This is what I found:

  1. The phrase red herring has a number of metaphorical senses that share the general sense of something being a diversion or distraction from the original objective

  2. Main Entry: red herring
    Function: noun
1 : a herring cured by salting and slow smoking to a dark brown color
2 [from the practice of drawing a red herring across a trail to confuse hunting dogs] : something that distracts attention from the real issue

Was all these post by Helois regarding the Mon Cals, Beast Mastery, Gardening, Exterior Design, Genetic Engineer, and so on just another instance of of the Devs intentionally decieving the playerbase? I mean after all, he did write a disclamer in each post EXCEPT the red herring post.

Implementation or scheduling is neither guaranteed nor implied.  This is simply a "Request For Comments".

Or was it exactly what myself and many others said. It was nothing more than a diversion one week before the one year anniversary date for the NGE? I mean if $OE was seriously considering ANY of the above propsed ideas, I believe they would have said so. Even if they said we can only implement one of these it would have made more sense.

Personally, I think $OE is F*ing with the playerbase. Purposely getting their hopes up on new content ... and in reality, just playing with their feelings.

Am I (and the above people) off base here?

You know ... I NEVER noticed anything from the Devs that I would have interpreted as intentional lying (preNGE). I did see stuff that i thought was bad management or maybe broken promises that they wanted to keep but was unable to for whatever reason.

But these last nine months and especially the last 4-6 months I have read some REALLY nasty stuff from the Devs at $OE. I would have NEVER believed anyone would intentionally insult their playerbase ... their CUSTOMERS if I didn't see it for myself.

But I'll tell ya ... this Helios is pretty brazen about jerking the existing playerbase around. It wasn't until these guys pointed out "red herring" that opened my eyes to see how bad $OE really is.

Well if he is using the red herring comment to have some fun he compounded it by replying to someone who said he was joking... helios replied by saying it was not a joke and he is serious about it...

Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.

I haven't read that particualr thread all the way thru. But I do see what you are saying.

What bothers me is that he could have called that squadron anything in the world. Why use "red herring" if the term implies diversion and deception? Once he posted the initial 4 posts ... he has to play it thru. I would have been TOTALLY blown away if he had come out and said anything to the contrary to what he had said.

I think it all smells like Bantha fodder.

It's a load of crap I believe. Helios is spamming this as a diversion.

Assuming it's true, look at how much additional code this would require to implement. It's an overkill for a simple problem, SOE doesn't do those.

Another issue, players can only identify a structure as condemned by trying to enter it. So that means that only public structures would be covered by this. All the others would take somebody who has access to these strucutres.

What about factories, guildhalls, cantinas, ect that are not covered by house pack?
