Since they realized that that is what the players want. And they are making suggestions because it is nearing the end of the year and they are needing idea's for next year's plan; they want to make sure that anything that they start working on is ok with the players. This idea was probably sparked by the realization that their playerbase was decreasing and they did not like that, so they decided to try to get on the right path in terms of player appreciation.

Dude I'm not going to flame you because you are a fellow Ohioan 8), but have you even played SWG? Are you familiar with the Dev team over at SOE and all the lies and bait and switch tactics they have used it the past? Believe us when we tell you that they don't give a crap about what the players want, they just post stuff like that to stir things up.

Money is Smedly's job, not SWG's.

Can't agree with that analysis, simply because the NGE was clearly ALL about cutting costs.  They cut the size of the dev staff, their senior and more talented devs moved on to other projects, and the whole game basically went into "do whatever you can with limited resources" mode from then on.  The pace of deployment on updates has been so slow precisely because of the small size of the team.

Even with the smaller subscriber base today, they might be making money on SWG, because they're spending so much less on it now.  And this is precisely one of the things that vets despise.  We bought the Mercedes Benz of MMO's and paid the monthly payments for it, and they turned it into a used Buick and asked us to keep paying the same price.  They're not even trying to make the same GENRE of game we purchased, much less a game with the same depth and complexity.  As long as they're making SWG Lite, we're just not interested, no matter how many marketing tricks they try to play.  The devs working on the game today don't even believe in the sandbox genre design that half a million people purchased SWG to play, so it can't be a surprise that they're not building anything approximating it .... and never will.

Every promise of future improvements is simply a strategy to stop the bleeding on subscription levels, for as many months as possible, to cynically squeeze as many dollars as possible from the customer base.  These are the same guys who sold Creature Handlers an expansion with new features for them knowing that they were going to eliminate the profession the next month.  Nothing is too low for them, they have business ethics that would make a Colombian drug lord blush.  If you still believe in their supposed goodwill .... I can't comprehend it.

You make another valid point here Kzin, a very nice post indeed :)

You do have a great point made here Kzin, but this thread has gone a bit off topic. What I initially was trying to relay here was that while the NGE was not perfect, I believed that having threads started with devs posting and answering questions was a nice relief. And the ideas that they had layed out were certainly refreshing (keep in mind though, I am not stating here that I am sure that they will even touch these ideas again, I am just saying that at least the devs are thinking of ideas that get me a bit excited). And I realize that this could certainly be another attempt at money to keep the game afloat, or it may even be something that could be hinting at another combat revamp. But one thing I do know for sure is, that if the developers do in fact say that they will be commiting to these ideas, and end up trashing them mid-development, my interest in the game and tiny bit of trust I had left in the devs would be absolute zero. Only until I read about similiar ideas on Test Center or even Live will my interest be re-kindled. Yes that is right, I have quit the game numerous times, only to return when new features have been implemented.

I have gotten past the fact that it is the NGE which means that I do look forward to things that could possibly add a few more hours of entertainment to the game, rather then sitting there thinking about how bad the game sucks. I guess you could say I still look at the glass half-full, rather than half-empty.

In closing, I am the kind of player that is on the line. One more mistake, and I am gone. But something that could possibly make me happy? Well then I am a bit further away from the edge.

P.S: This will probably be my last reply, being as my hands are getting tired from typing so much :P

That pretty much says it all about the quality of current gameplay and the audience the NGE devs are pursuing ... it's not the audience the original SWG was written for, it's not me, that's for sure.  They're so desparate for subscribers they'll pander to the exploiters.

It is not that, but rather that they are just so careless. The Customer Service is full of a bunch or automated responses, sort of like trying to submit a ticket to an answering machine. With the exception of course, that you may get a good one once and awhile that might actually talk to you and not give you a copy/paste response out of the SWG handbook.

I can understand people getting exited about something they had pre-cu or CH coming back. Those guys an girls got shafted big time.

The trouble is we know the company and as a pre-cu vet you say you are, surely you must of heard this all before.

They can make the big statement any PR suit worth his paycheck can do this. What they have never done is deliver. Or they deliver what is not asked for.

Before pouring your praise on this company, I suggest you wait and see what is delivered if at all.

Smuggling Post-nge is the yard stick from which i measure any such concepts. So my expectations aren't high.

The Smuggler Gank Squad Rep sez: "TWO DOLLARS!"

Really, don't these devs actually have some WORK to do?  Like, oh say, damage control?  Bug fixes?  Something other than blowing smoke out of their collective asses?

Why does this make you angry? People have different playstyles and if you might have read the whole post you would have seen that gardening is not all useless. Hybrid plants can be breed and petrified to produce house decorations. Plants can be harvested and made into buffs or sold to Chefs to make special foods.
And let's backtrack a bit more here to the title of the post. It is an in-concept thread, meaning that "implementation is neither guaranted nor implied", as stated in the first paragraph.

are you an idiot? Do you not remember what Nancy Mcretard said about getting rid of being the moisture farmer, and becoming luke skywalker or Han Solo?
No, your just an NGE R-tard. Go to current

Well excuse me mister high-and-mighty, I have been playing since 03', probably much longer than you. I remember every change this game has undergone, and yes I do remember when they said that no one wanted to play as Uncle Owen. Well guess what son. Read my second sentence and you MIGHT understand. "People have different playstyles". *gasp*! "You have got to be kidding me right? You mean some people....don't like combat?! Blasphemy". Oh no, I kid you not, some people just enjoy sitting around crafting their wares and chatting with friends. Soe (yes notice, I did not use $oe, another *gasp*!) has probably figured that tending to ALL of these playstyles will have much better appeal to the non-combat players who have inactive accounts.
And anyways, you don't even play, so why have your panties in a bunch? Would you rather have it so they don't fix their mistakes and just tend to combat? Or even better, just get rid of all crafting and make the economy loot? "Well most of the economy now is looted". Psshhht. Armor, house decor, space chassis, structures, city decor, psg's, etc. But you would much rather whine about how Soe is trying to fix their mistakes. The game would honestly do better with people posting feedback and not the kind of worthless crap posts like you have presented me. Please, come back when you have found a valid point.

I'd rather have SOE scrap the whole fuckin thing and sell it to bio-ware or someone capable enough to run a Star Wars MMORPG.

I'll refute one of you're points about SOE.  Sony as a company in general is not doing that well company wide, need proof? Stock prices as of a year ago were around 160 bucks a share and now they are under 40 bucks a share.  Sony took out loans to build the PS3 and has put all of its collective eggs in the PS3/BlueRay basket which quite frankly is not a gamble I would make.

Then we come to the lawsuits.  Class Action suits over exploding batteries, reports to the BBB due to various branches of the company, and the fact that due to the NGE fiasco the sub numbers in all their mmo's are way down, need proof go to mmogchart.com and you will see a trend in essentially every mmo that SOE owns.

Whats all this mean? Simple SOE is feeling the pinch just like every other department, they gambled and lost with NGE, its run by a skelaton crew of inempt programmers and designers due mainly to the fact that the guys that had talent/vision were shown the door or left in disgust.  The remaining yes men are cheap labor to keep a game that isn't going anywhere(I gave it a chance last month after almost a year away and I didn't see growth in the least).  You can take the glass half full opinion for only so long before you simply accept the truth, SOE lies they don't care about the game long term because there is no longterm.

If you take a look for example at the GCW its a big timesink to keep the 90's strung along just a little longer, rewards like armor and a barc are the carrot and to get these items you only have to do months worth of pointless missions of which half are broken. You claim its getting better, heres something to consider when you get to officer ranks you begin to get moves that will throw the balance of the classes out of wack, example? the final reward is calling in a air strike from above for god sake.  Yet in the name of balance they cut over 2/3's of the profs out of the game only to throw balance out the window so they could have a carrot to dangle in front of the PVP'er they claim that the population is made up off.

I ask you does this sound like it was planned over any amount of time or did they throw it together to keep people strung along since essentially at lvl 90 there is no more content.  One last point if the game is improving and SOE truely believed in the project why was the planned expansion scrapped, simple it was no longer profitable to do an expansion.  The writings on the wall my friend and if you can't see it then by all means continue to "enjoy" the game.  I will say this you might wanna stay clear of the refuge as you will likely make no friends by insulting a group of former players who stand by what they believe.

you're right, and however much i hate to admit it, there wasn't a ton of content pre-cu either, that was the games flaw, it was up to the player to make his own content, thusly coining SWG as a sandbox, this was the part that was keeping people away, (although i personally enjoyed it, much much much more then any other MMO type.. MMOFPS, MMORPG, MMOwhatever, sandboxes kick arse) not the degree of star warzy... People feel satisfaction in accomplishing goals, which is good, but alot of the time, they'd rather be told what to do, then go out and make something up, which is what SWG:C was all about.

I think part of the problem here stems from the success of WoW. The real truth of the matter is the George Lucas (and therefore all the companies he owns) really only cares about the money. I mean, look at all the Star Wars crap that is marketed every year. Unfortunately, SOE is not much better about that than Lucas/LucasArts. I suspect that the success of WoW led LA to push SOE to turn SWG into a WoW clone. That's what the NGE did. That's where the focus on PVP comes from too. I'd wager that most of the dev team refused and were replaced with whatever incompetent half-wits were willing to go along with the plan.

Last month (they gave me a free month in an attempt to get me back), the devs posted a poll on the forums asking what gameplay style everyone preferred. I'm certain they crapped themselves when they saw the results. It was roughly 70% for PvE, 20% for PvP, and 10% for Social/Crafting. They've put so much emphasis on the GCW/PvP and it's still less popular than grinding away on Pikets or something.

Honestly, Pre-CU was a solid game, but I'll even take Pre-NGE at this point. If I wanted to play WoW or CoX, then I would still be playing them. At this point, I think it's true that LA/SOE (can't forget LA, they're as much to blame here as SOE is) are just out for money, and you absolutely cannot believe anything they promise.

I hate when people that cannot argue their case complain about spelling errors. I think that's enough of an answer to your idiot question...

That's exactly what I've been saying for years. The SW IP should be pulling them millions more subscribers than WoW, but it's not because the game is broken. Star Wars is the perfect setting for an MMO - you have to really do something wrong to fuck that up. LA/SOE did. You don't even have to play the game for a month to realize how bad it is.

Every other MMO I've played has a large number of former SWG players who want to play a SW MMO, but refuse to return to SWG. LA/SOE *need* to shut SWG down and LA needs to take the SW IP to someone like Bio-Ware (KOTOR) or even Pandemic (Battlefront 1&2).
