SWG slowly rising from the ashes?

Is it just me or has SOE begun to listen a little to the players? I had a 5 month break over the summer, while playing EVE (great game btw), but I got tired of it and went back to try SWG when auto targeting came back. Now with the new civil war system and expertise, I really see the game rising again. Slow but steady.

ONyl way i'd come back is if they released classic servers, but even then it may be too little too late. My wonderful guild has left the game and theres about 3 people still playing outta about 200.

    Yes, simple as that.

Im no SOE fanboi but I do play and can clearly see a rise in population levels. My friends list also has a lot more yellow names in it that werent there a few months a go.

Whatever happens, the devs are doing some good stuff whether you SWG haters like it or not.

I have played swg since launch, quit a few months back and would only come back when there are classic servers. I am still mad about them making jedi a starting class after grinding 26 professions to get my elder jedi. The NGE is a flop and only way to get the player base they had before is to bring back the classic servers and admit they screwed up badly.

i gotta admit ive noticed more "new people" as well as slightly higher density in certain cities such as mos eisley, and such. although ive noticed since i came back this month that the pvping has moved to space in the majority. although i could be wrong. i had a few small fights with imperials in restuss so its alive still but not as miuchas it was before about 2-3 months ago, when u had 30-60 people fighting back and forth on the other side that had similar numbers if not more. divided between rori retuss, and weapons depot on talus was some good drawn oput conflicts between rebels and imperials trying o gain control. i think over time if SOE devs stick to what they say (sprinkles grain of salt) this may verywell be the shot in the arm SWG needs to bring back subscribers both old and new.

I think there are a few things going on.

First, the Station Pass plan always results in more people checking out all of the games that are covered by it.  So there are more people who are playing SWG simply because of Station Pass than would be playing it if it were a strictly standalone sub.  In other words, SOE's pricing plan is in some ways effective.

Second, I think that the delay of WoW's expansion has benefitted everyone else this fall, because many players with lvl 60 WoW characters are taking a break from WoW until around the time of the expansion because Blizzard is changing so many things with the expansion that much of the current level 60 activities are diminishing returns.  So this has freed up a lot of gamers to play other games for a few months, and some of these may have found their way into SWG.

Third, I think that the likelihood of the old/original SWG playerbase coming back to any significant degree is very small.  It's an issue of trust with SOE/LA.  SOE/LA murdered the design of the game, killed entire classes, changed the whole idea that the game had from the beginning.  The trust issues created by that kind of sweeping change are simply too difficult to overcome, I think.

They are still a YEAR away from having the basic systems in so it's still a beta test. Maybe once they have completed all the expertise systems and completed the smuggling/bounty/jedi/economic crafting systems it might be worth looking at. I would probally also help if they planned an expansion for the game, without an expansion to mean it shows SOE isn't interested in the game's longevity still.

I think the Star Wars license HAS changed hands and they are just buying time till they lose it to whatever is down the road that will better make use of it.

SOE embodies every last thing that is wrong with the gaming industry right now..  playing SWG only supports that.

I still have hatred in my heart for SOE after playing SWG for only 2 months or so, about 3 years ago.  That definitely says something about how absolutely wrong they are.

Going back for me would be like picking up a snake and hugging him after he bit.

I don't know what my point is, other than, simply, SOE MUST DIE! image

servers are still empty,  The game is a rip off , bad copy of WOW.  The # of players wont be enough to kepp the servers up, once The new games come out.

    Wasnt SOE out before WOW.

I really fail to see how SOE is a copy of WOW. However I do find it funny that people use WOW as if its been out forever and is a gift from god upon us humble mortals.

Its not that good. Blizzard still hasnt made 50% of the changes and promises they said while making the game. This expansion is suppose to bring new life but two new races and a bit more content will only do so much. Especially when it took way to long to bring it out.

SOE did a major overhaul of SWG about a year ago, in which they basically changed the majority of things in the game so that they resembled WOW in many ways.

Just an indication of how stupid some developers are - trying to generate success out of hollow changes, and empty creative direction.

OK  let me explain what everyone knows hehe...

SWG was the most original, skill based game out there,  Ate one point it had over 500k subscribers.   Then WOW came and it was a Huge succes.  SOE jelous as they are, started changing the game to be more "WOW Like",   However  SWG can't even come closer,  The game SUX, full of Bugs,  and the number of people playing it has gone down badly,  If wasn't for the Station pass, U can count about 20-30k people playing (judging by how empty the servers are.)

Ohh!  and I didn't say that WOW is good, I tried to play it, But it's not for me.  However, it is pretty much bug-free, Very computer friendly, + it does what it is suppost to.  And when u have over 6 millions of players you must be doing something right.

Quality post. I completely agree on all points.

I always wondered how much research they really did on their target customers. I mean wouldn't you at least run a basic survey before you decide to implement some groundbreaking change that will mess up half of the game.

That's the price you pay for not listening to your players.
