Rising force Online and D&D online. Oh, and game of the year: Dark and Light.

yeah, 2006 has been a poor year for gaming. But only so far, I think the Wii will make 2006 worthwhile.

    Game of the Year.

A budget game released last easter.

If you have played Ravenshield, SWAT 4 or America's Army you will have a pretty good idea of the game mechanics. It's another Unreal based Tac shooter just like them.

This time you get to play as the S.A.S. There are training missions just like in America's Army, and then combat missions in real type enviroments, The Houses of Parliment, an invented London Subway station, and the Iranian Embassy for example.

It's a cheap and cheerful game. It excels in team co-operative mode against the computer but is pretty lame as a PvP shooter. Traditional British enemies; BNP skinheads wearing bovver boots and England T-shirts ("we're on the same side, mate!"), Iranian Extremists and IRA. Training missions and video cutscenes by the actual SAS men who took part in the Embassy siege, (loosely recreated in the screenshot above).

In the same way as SWAT4 forces you to play a game that is essentially Ravenshield using police tactics, The Regiment is against the clock. The only way to beat it is to use the SAS tactics they train you with. Speed, aggression, surprise. This is not a stealth shooter. It's a blitzer.

If you can imagine doing a level of Ravenshield in 180 seconds flat, you will begin to get some idea of the level of expertise an SAS trooper is expected to have.

I bought it the day it came out for £15. It's been the most played game here at Club Baff for the whole year. Close team work is a necessity and those tricky terrorists have a few surprises up their sleaves that I won't spoil for you.

This is a must have game for all those with a home LAN.
