Tried this game

I think it has potential, but as of right now it lacks organization and speed.  I can see why most people don't get into it, but if they made a better client (was this thing made with python?) and organize it a little better so there's more logic to it, I think it could do pretty well.

What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?

Since just about everything was made by its residents how "organized" an area is will be completely based on who made that area. It's like browsing the Internet, some sites will be really well made, others won't. Then since you have to download so much (object models, textures, sounds, etc...) all the time SL really pushes your computer and connection like nothing else will. So SL will probably never be fast and suffer more lag than traditional MMORPGs which have all the resources in the client. They are always adjusting the client one way or another, new things are added, some things get fixed, others break, same as with any of the traditional MMORPGs.

Second Life was too complex to bring in the numbers that most other mmo's can.  I feel that if they simplified the creation process and made it less of a job to play that more people would enjoy it.  The concept is great but the Gameplay is way too programmer based for the average gamer in my oppinion.

hardly!  Secondlife now has over a million members.  It's by far the best game out there, seeing as how you can do anything you want.  Sure the learning curve is steep, but oh well, it's amazing.

    I'll say this.

When I first logged into SL in 2004 it was much more rudimentary than it is now.  It was a heck of a lot smaller, less populated and there was less to do.  Mostly people were building things and scripting a lot, and it was more laid back, but also less interesting for non-scripter types.

That's changed more or less completely now.  There's still plenty of building going on, but the place is so built up now that there's a lot, a LOT of things going on all the time.  You can have a lot of fun just exploring and doing the fun things, and if you're not so inclined, don't bother with building.  There's enough buillt content now that it doesn't really matter if you like to build or not, because it's pretty much your own choice and preference.

I'm impressed with how far SL has come, and how it continues to grow.  It's certainly worth a look, provided you remember it's not a game as much as it is a true virtual world.

Tried this game back in 2004. Tried it again recently.

    BACK IN LATE '04

Fairly poor community, everyone kept to their circle of friends, a LOT of quality work and not much quantity work.

    NOW

over 50% of the community are social outcasts/sexual deviants. The majority of the world looks ugly.

The game got better, the people got worse.

This is pretty much why I quit playing SL.  The only events to attend were either horribly lagged "Bingo" events, or some kind of sexual nakedness event.  It just got incredibly redundant and boring.

I tried to start up a live theatre, but people were so disintrested in trying something new that I gave up.

yea the community in Second Life is ok, but there are so many weirdos that program things that are just gross.  I think that the game should've been controlled a little, or it would've been good if the players had ever built a theme, ugh theres really nothing to do in game, except program but that gets old, and its hard to learn too.  THere should've been a tutorial

Well you've just got to control where you go I guess, just like in the real world. There are themed lands, so its just as easy to find something you like as it is to stumble across some sick shit you dont like. I myself hang out with a group of around 10 constant people on a teamspeak while we chill in SL. We help eachother out with projects, builds, gaming, etc. It's a great community, you've just got to find your spot.

I think SL works because they don't control it but because its all anonymous there's lots more sick stuff to get around to actually get to the interesting stuff :(

Wish I could find someone from my own country to do that with, but am tired of hearing the "SL sucks" whining from newbies who never even left the introduction area before they labeled SL as a waste of time.

I agree with everything you said, anyway. One must know where to look, and one must have patience, because SL is
very unique at what it does. It is all alone about having a virtual online world where you can build things from scratch,
use advanced scripting, custom textures and what not.

There are some (many) special people in SL, but I don't mind them living out their secret dreams as long as they don't
come chasing me (unless I want them to..) image

Yeah, I think it's gotten more fun since more and more people have been joining.  It was kinda boring in the beginning because of the lack of content and playters.  I think the stuff that people built made it more interesting to play.
