A while back now the Good Game team had an interview with Jeremy From Pure Pwnage.
In that interview he said that he didn't class mmo's as a proper game more as a hobbie unlike fps's and rts's
Do you have the same view, I'm undecided.
I just wanna' know how many people are play mmo's and treat 'em as hobbies more than games.
P.S Do you recon theres a need for a pole.
Comments
Jeremy is not an mmo gamer, he's a normal gamer, the same like any other CS player. he's just given more attention, thats all. No, I don't share his opinion.

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
IMO, any type of gaming is a hobby. Sure some take it to an extreme but still, it's a hobby, any hobby can be taken overboard.
Besides, I hate anything that defines and devides gamers, titles such as: Carebears, PVP'ers, Harcore gamers, FPS'ers, RTS'ers, MMO'ers, it's all the same to me. Your a gamer, plain and simple, we're all equal IMHO.

Man, if MMO is a hobby i have to share with delusional people , i better get a life fast!

You sound like a Marxist
Anyway, i agree. All games are..hobbies. Except if you're working in the gaming industry. Then it's different
I just have one question:
Why does anyone care about the opinion of someone who isn't anything to the Gaming Industry but a jerk off who is funny 1/4 of the time?
A Work in Progress.

I saw that interview too. Allthough Jeremy takes it to the extreme of course, but he's onto something. I kind of see MMOs more like The Sims meet RPGs. You have parts of solid gameplay inspired by RPGs,
and then you have a large portion that's just about the social structure and pimping your avatar.
The essence of his statement is MMOs are loaded with timesinks between the actual heart&soul of the gameplay,
while RTS/FPS games presents you with the actual entertainment as soon as you're out of the chatchannel/serverlist and loading the map.
Personally I stick by this definition: You consume most games, but MMOs will consume you.
And just fyi ;D Jeremy isn't a real person. He's a character in a show aimed at gamers summed up by the extremes of our subculture, allthough the guy acting as him seems to be pretty
good at games aswell judging from the few cuts we've seen. If you play games and can't enjoy PP
you might either be taking yourself too seriously or him too seriously One or the other.
Jeremy is the gamers' Rambo, and who doesn't love Rambo? Com'on!

Fixed
Looked upon a competitive gamers point of view(mine), I see why Jeremy is "attacking" the MMO genre. The amount of raw human skill you can develop in any of the current MMOs are far lower than in RTS or FPS games, meaning that most of the progession you do, actually doesn't mean you become better at the game, but simply that your character is getting stronger.
Jeremy is a competitive gamer like me. He wants his games be competitive. MMOs aren't as competitive as rts and fps.
For me, gaming is a hobby. Thus, the games themselves are a hobby.
Moreso: it's a lifestyle.
Playing MMO's- hobby
Creating games - job
Competitive gaming - job/alot of time of their hands
I dont even know who jeremy is but for the most part ppl play games for the casual stimulation. I myself am a casual gamer and I play for two reasons. 1. Fun and you can go at your own speed. 2. Relieves stress. He bashes MMO's due to the fact that many ppl dont have that much time to play them, nor they want to play them every minute of the day.
Majority-casual/hobby
Minority-extremists
Thats pretty competitive.
Angry smack talking, lil shit teenagers talking about skill.
Thats as bad as the leet kiddies in WoW with there epic gear.
Why dont you go play basketball or football or hockey or surf or sponge
BECAUSE THAT TAKES SKILL.
I will agree that there is less skill involved in outleveling your
opponent but I've heard people on vent going nuts and have read some
crazy things about finding that power to be better than someone.
I'm sorry spending time to get better so you can beat someone isn't competitive?

That is when the extreme comes out. I got two words to help describe that: drug and addiction.
