Help looking for another game to replace SWG

YendoYendo Member Posts: 64

Can anyone tell me is there another game(s) out there is has the same skills system that SWG once had? I'm trying to wait for Vangard or SWG classis servers image to come out but seeing how Vangard seems to still be a few months away and the Classis server things is looking like it wont happen i need to find a time killer.

I have tried CoH and it was kind of boring after a while and Ryzon i needed to upgrade my graphics card and i'm not going to spend that kind of money if non of these game are worth a dam. So if you know of a game that might be somewhat like the old SWG please let me know.

Good luck, I tried this gig.  I went through Wow, CoH, DDO, EVE Online and a couple others.  None were as good...

Turn based combat, skill based (not level based) advancement, ability to reinvent yourself at will, incredible character customization (including the ability to do it after character creation), a great and non-fatigue inducing UI, and quite simply the best crafting system of any MMO ever.

And then they had to go and change not one of, not a couple of, but every single one of the above listed game features.  I'll quote William Shatner:  "It's Shat-tastic!"

    Altre Monserrat - MBH/MP
    Aaden Monserrat - Elder Jedi
    Starsider - <DFC> - Dark Force Clan

Currently to my knowledge there is nothing comparable thats on the market..that is like what swg once was. Like others...Ive been through game after game. Right now I'm playing nothing. There is a good sci-fi game thats coming out...but its at least a year away. But the concepts of it rock. HERE

You may replace SWg, but it will never be replaced.

Best of luck to you in your quest to find a great game like what swg had been.  If you do find one please be sure to let everyone know.  I have personally tried everything I could get my hands on from Dark and Light to several current closed beta's with absolutely NO luck whatsoever.  Got so bad that I finally just reactivated my swg account not too long ago. :(

My response depends on your SWG-ERA preference:

PRE-CU  -  Sorry, there does not currently exist a game to replace this.
CU  -  You should try World of Warcraft.  It is still light years from the same complexity...but...
NGE  -  Try Etch-a-Sketch - hours of fun, pretty red color, TWO dials, and you can start over very easily!!!

Try checking out Darkfall when it comes. It sounds even more promising than Dark And Light did. And that worries me. But all games who claim to become sandbox games is something I'm gonna check out.

Yeah Darkfall looks promising, but I've followed it for years now, and I just really don't think that they have the resources to put out that kind of game.  But I'll always hope in the back of my mind that the game turns out to be everything they said it will be :)

I've been asking same thing many times... here and on other boards... And I've tried many trials and paid games. Seems like answer is No. No preCu comparable game at the market right now...
...Which seems strange to me... If there is a demand there should be an offer and there is a huge demand for this kind of game and almost no offer.
BTW for me personally Ryzom seems closest atm.

I started a month before the CU update, and played from there until about 2 months ago. I liked the CU and only wished i had more time in the pre-cu stage of the game.  I want the complexity really, and the ability to change my skills as i see fit. WoW looks ok but not really my speed it seem to be a lot of kids playing and it doesn't have that same feel of freedom to do whatever.

what about DoC it looks like fun?

Oh shit... I very rarely bust out laughing at forums posts put the "TWO dials" part was simply brilliant.

I hear you re. the graphics card with Ryzom, but that's a shame.  I have a friend who sometimes plays CoH with me, but she really likes Ryzom because it has some kind of skill system somewhat like the original SWG she says.  That's a big reason why she plays it.  So I dunno, with the Christmas coming, maybe you can get a new graphics card :)

For me, CoH scratches my itch.  I like the different hero and villain builds you can design.  It's not quite as open ended as the original SWG, but it gives me enough to play around with.  With all the different power pools to choose from, and all the different archtypes, it keeps me happy.  And you get more pools to choose from, the higher your character progresses.  So the longer you play, the more options you open up.

Another plus for me is that my main fun in SWG came as being a Doc in group combat situations.  Well CoH group combat is really good.  And I've got a ton of useful heals, buffs and attacks again.  What the NGE did to Master Docs is kind of like castration in my mind.  It's nice to have my abilities back, and really play a role in team combat.

If original SWG comes out again, offered by a company that won't delete my last 2 year's progress, I'll play it.  It was really awesome.
