hmm.. ive played lineage 1, and it is quite possibly the biggest time sink ever. plus the game discourages u from pking, outside of seiges, by making u go chaotic. as far as ive heard lineage 2 is about the same, just better graphics.
Shadowbane might be a decent P vs P game. Don't play it anymore because I prefer content over being griefed.
"Finally, we have our group to the dungeon, let's explore. What's that? A level 50 PKing us? <<WHACK>><<WHACK>>
Okay, finally, after 30 minutes of recovery, we are back at the dungeon we've all been waiting the explore. Only lost one group member who had to log. What's that? Same level 50 PKing us again? <<WHACK>><<WHACK>>
Well, sorry guys, I have to log. This game really sucks."
BF1942. You start the game up, and you go out and PvP. It doesn't require a boring level grind to reach the point where you can actually go out and PvP--how refreshing. It's also not a bug ridden mess, it doesn't crash constantly, it doesn't have balance issues, no one will ever mez/stun/fear you, and it doesn't suffer from a lack of end game content.
I realize it isn't a MMORPG, but since they all suck at PvP you might as well play BF while you wait for some good PvP in a MMORGP.
Shadowbane has very little grind time and is more pvp oriented than any other mmorpg in my experience. Nearly all of it's following from pre-release got sick and left after about six months of frequent client crashes and bugs (I lasted a few months longer). It was also really content shy at release.
Anyways they keep sending me emails about how everythings fixed and I need to come back you might want to check them out.

u asked for a good PvP game, not a PK game... Lineage is a good PvP game but heavily discourages against PK'ing (yes there is a difference between a PvP and PK orientated)... also u said "doesnt take a long time to enjoy"... it doesnt... yes it is a large level grind due to no level cap and such but it doesnt take long to enjoy... u can start to PvP at just lvl 5+ if you want and its still fun
But, if you do not want to do PvP 100% of the time, you do not want to play it. You will get ganked and griefed often. The so called full PvP crowd just want to gank the people who do not want full PvP. They don't fight each other, because it is not easy pickings.
The standard game request by a PvP'r.
"Please, Mr. Developer, make a really good game with open PvP, so that carebear players will want to play it so I can gank them..."
PvP'rs have their full PvP game (ShadowBane) but they don't like it because non PvP'rs don't want to play it. No carebears to gank means no fun...
If you do like full on PvP though, it is a great game. You can level incredibly fast, and if you join a good large guild, you should be, mostly safe from ganking. I was able to get characters up to 20th level in one session of about 6 or 7 hours. You just run north to the sweet XP spot and join a group. It is easy to find groups because the more poeple, the more XP. Groups will even let people who aren't really gonna help much join. But this only happens in the first 20 levels, you see, there is no PvP in the first 20 levels. After about 20-22nd level, you get booted off the newbie island. Then the ganking begins.
The best thing to do is go outta game and find a guilds web site and try to join.
You should try either Quake, Unreal or whatever like that.
MMORPG are based on grinding! If you dont like grinding, you dont like the RPG, since levels, skills, gear, it is always grinding! Remove the grinding, and it is not a RPG (it can have some roleplaying nonetheless, someone can roleplay a character anywhere, and some folks dont roleplay in the RPG).
No matter what peoples says, a RPG is based on the grinding, not on the roleplaying aspect under which it like to hide! Some will say it is realist, other that it is not, it dont matter, it is a world of grinding.

You might not remember, but there are no dungeons in Shadowbane.

oh brother... First of all RPG stands for roleplaying game not grinding game. Second If you want to talk about games that are fun for longer than 2 seconds even if you are not on top because there is always some way to make yourself better then grinding still isn't necessary.
Grinding is a derogatory term, this is how he meant it. Its when the tactics used to drag out the fun in the game don't work. It is when there is too much gap between percieved progress in the game. Anotherwords it is much much better to get just a little bit stronger for each small amount of effort then to play for a long time to get a larger amount better but not change in the mean time. The second is grinding the first is not... (or worse grinding play for a long time just to get a LITTLE better) Yes there can be a game with character development without grinding.
Fps like you mentioned are not games that stay fun because it often seems like there is nothing you can do to get better than you already are (not really true but thats how its usually seen) so if you are not on top then it gets boring right away. There are games in between like Purge Jihad and wolfenstein enemy territory.... and then games closer to other mmorpgs on this same line like neocron.

best PvP game ever, skill based, can jump into PvP after 2 weeks of building. PK's vs. Hunter's, Guild wars, Faction wars, everthing that is good PvP.

Yes, ShaodwBane is the ultimate in Open PvP.

For PvP i would vote for Neocron, you can level to max in a few weeks and there is lots and lots of PvP. including base attacks and general pk'ing.
Its more a RPFPS though
Muahahahahahahaha
