I gave in

We'll i have stayed away form WoW for a long time, as i played SWG, and EQ2 for the past 2 1/2 years. But those games got old to me after awhile, and after buying PSU, and relizing how horrible of a game that is. I finally decided to give WoW a shot seeing as vanguard wont be released until jan-apr sometime. I must say yes it is easier then most MMO's ive played, but it is actually enjoyable. Witch i have to say hasn't happened sense pre-CU SWG.

Now WoW won't keep me from being in vanguard day 1 of release, but until then i have something to do with my spare time. So i must say to anyone who hasn't tried WoW becasue of what they have heard. Go ahead and try it, you might actually be surprised:)

I also gave in for WoW.

But found a game that made me bounce away as strong as a tennis ball tied to a bungy rope!

How could a game possible be more repetetive and non-saying than FlyFF and other grind/farm games? Well, there I sure was it right in front of my eyes. To my great astonnishment... THIS was what million of millions of millions of players ... sat and played day by day by day... LOL! I just cannot stop laughing even today...

I was like you. When WoW first came out, I didn't want to touch it. I was an officer for my guild in EQ1 and WoW was like the plague - it kept taking our guildmates away and making my job a nightmare. Every time WoW was mentioned  in guild we would try to downplay it, saying the usual 'it lacks depth', 'it's for kids', 'its just a cartoon' even though I hadn't really played it (except for beta for a few mins).

But eventually I went in with open eyes, and I love it. And occaisionally on forums like these I'll be called a WoW kiddie or an idiot gamer that can't play a real MMO, but I just laugh at them - I already mastered the so called 'proper' MMOs long before WoW came along. The fact is, WoW is just better. The community more alive compared to the stagnant communities of most other MMOs.

So just Ignore sweeping generalizations about the game's community. It's an MMO - everyone's experience is different - so even though it's really good, some people are just going to hate it. For those people; feel free to enjoy the alternative MMOs, but don't try to tell us that WoW is just for kiddies.

I went through the exact same thing as the OP. I came back to WoW this weekend after months away, and I'm glad I did. It'll be my refuge until WAR (despite the games being almost direct rivals).

Recent on the first page is right, people hate, and hate is what we are fighting.

    Think of it like this:

with age comes wisdom, with wisdom comes power, with power comes price.

age= how long WoW has bin out(2 years, i know not that long)

wisdom= WoW has lots of respectfrom MMO players around the world.

power= WoW is the BEST mmo in the world, and with the highest amount of players reaching well over 6-7 MILLION!

price= the constant flames to the game, about things no one gives a f--- about.

Age= 2 years? 2 years is nothing! UO was released 9 years ago. AC1 7 years ago. Your point is mute.

Wisdom= Exactly the opposite. People play the game because it is a) Blizzard b) Well known. They don't know any better

Power= Best MMO in the world, LMAO. Wake up!

Price= I'm glad you that you enjoy pointless grinding, and that you are even willing to pay for the privilege.

Ya WoW is the best mmo out there lol thats why a whole guild just got banned for hacking to bypass content ,because its the best most fun mmo out there. If wow is the best guess all stop playing mmo.s

WoW isn't the best MMO out there, but it is a great game.

And dude, most MMO's get hacked.

You can go to websites where they will sell you gold and put a price on hacks that give you good gear in games.
    They even have a list.

    Groovy.

Sorry, after jumping here and there, the WoW-experience is simply better. they nailed exactly what i wanted. Of course maybe when i reach 60 things will change, but good chances are i will never do :D

Sometimes I feel like going back to WoW... I really enjoyed the Warrior class because it was a lot more complicated than most people gave it credit for. Barely anyone changed stances during fights or used Intercept as more than just a catch-up, so I ended up being one of the better Fury Warriors on my server.

But there's just too much for me against it. The sub-par graphics, the annoying races (and players), the lack of decent PvP content... The playerbase. I still occasionally have nightmares from my small time spent in Tarren Mills before I gave up and moved to the alternative on the other continent. No, as much as I do miss the style of their Warrior, I'll just keep waiting for Vanguard and playing other, non-MMOs while I'm waiting. Unless you count Monster Hunter as an MMO. I mean, there's a town when you go online...

Wow was fun till i hit 60

wow was fun when i hit 60 4 times then i decided to quit.

so you like spending 5 nights of 6 hours raiding and getting little reward for it?

Do you like filling out a job application to get into the right guild?

Do you like spending time farming gold for repairs, and not have enough for cool stuff?

Do you like only using looted items and no crafted items?(btw all the looted items in endgame are BIND ON PICKUP)

if your answer is yes then sure go play wow

me personally i rather spend time PvPing with little pve content.

that is why i went back to swg it is mostly about PvP,  i got a medic, jedi,Bountyhunter and i spend 75% of my gametime PvPing and i dont have mandatory raid attendance to stay in my current guild.

With all the WoW bashing I would like somebody to name me a better Fantasy MMO then WoW.  EQ1 and EQ2 are the same style as WoW so those dont' count, the only difference there is style of graphics and mythos.  I tell you there is not a better fantasy MMO out NOW (not comming out all the WAR/Vanguard lovers) that has a better overall play system.  Yea the subsystems of PvP and crafting might be better in other games, but over all WoW will destroy all!

I'm just wondering. I'm not a botter, but anyone else feel like Blizzard is violating privacy by scanning your computer all the time... This is one of those Orwellian nightmares... Even though I have nothing to hide I still object the moral dilemma this makes. Anyone else think it is unethical?

i play WoW and im 19. i reckon its a fairly decent MMO. i have played EQII, SWG and AO.

there is a serious problem with alot of botters and gold farming spammers in the chat channels thou. they need to fix that.

The major reason why im still playing WoW is while i wait for the release of Warhammer Online to come out. that game looks awesome

WOW is a great game for the casual player and a decent stopgap game for the serious gamer who is waiting for better games to come out.  I have said again and again, WOW does not grate on me llke some other games.  You can log on, and even soloing get some things done.

I do have to look past the cartoon graphics and the modern tongue-in-cheek humor in the game to enjoy myself.

But I can tell you, that I am losing my drive to even play WOW.  We desperately need another better game to come out.

one of the biggest knocks against WoW is its community. Most say it's dominated by children and that may be the case. Recently I opurchased EOF, the latest EQ2 Expansiion. Sad to say, their community chat channels are as immature as WoW seems to be. Why everyone thinks that EQ2 players are so mature, makes me laugh. I still think WoW is a better game, especially when it comes to customer service, that still does not exist in EQ2, it's embarassing how poor they are.

i have played wow quite much since the EU reliease, and i have to say that i like the game. got i recently gave up on the game becouse of the endless raiding and the fact that you are not having fun unless you are in a 40 man raid ground and stuck infront of the computer for X many hours a day.

that being said imo i think the main reason wow is so popular is ofc

    1 its a blizzard game

2 when the game came out it was complete.

so as soon as the MMO market gets another MMO that is not on beta stage i think so many of those 7 mil or how many are playing wow will be taking there money else where.

so basicly the huge success of wow is not becouse its the best game that has ever come out. but when players started to play they instantly saw a final product. and there for stuck with the game instead of having to wait 6-7 months to be able to play the game propperly that they are paying for.

so like i said as soon as wep get a game with good game mechanics that is not in the beta stage the whole wow community will dropp drasticly

    at least imo ;)

Sorry for typos... dyslexic and just too damn lazy to proof read every post for 30 min
(yes i am aware of spell check but it does not help that much :)
