Mostly agree but that'd still leave far too many jedi out there, maybe if you said all pre-village jedi then maybe yes.
Jedi would have to be sverely limited. Personally I go for a classic server with a limited number of jedi unlocks per faction with enormous skill loss and no permadeath.
The situation is X. The patience is dead. You cant roll back. Its dead and will remain dead. No one can do anything about this. Pre Cu or Cu is not a solution. No one will play again.
Classic servers aren't suffcient. All exisiting servers have to be rolled back to November 14, 2006. I don't want to start over I want to resume where I left off. I know that's unfair ot the NGE players, but they knew they were dealing with the devil, when they started or continued to do business with the cutthroats over at SOE/LA.
Not sure what is going on here but the game is back and stronger than ever! People in game are telling the game is back to what pre-cu was. I don't know what you guys are talking about
I logged in this month for the first time in 8 months and it is nowhere near CU or pre CU. It was a ghost town on my server and those that were their were either pvp or doing DWB raiding. Hate to say it but 100k subs and dropping. I think the parties over for SWG.
one word CLASSIC i will be back, it is the 1 thing, the only thing, that would bring me back full time to SWG, so $OE start using your brains, do what must be done, do not hesitate, show no mercy, bring us classic servers, then you will get your SWG game back to popular form

or you could have a perma death force rank system where you gain ranks by killing other jedi, until only a few remain.
I would like to see all styles merged into one game. Take the best of it all and combine them to make a version suitable for most. I currently love the crafting aspects of the game but would like to see additives for chef reintroduced since those that have leftovers from pre NGE have monopolized the market. I would also like to see uber loot drops be schematics so that crafters can get some love. I would also like to be able to RE loot so that we can pull skill tapes from clothing and armor so that they can be put into other items. I feel that Jedi should again be an earned honorable reward instead of a gimmee. I have a lvl 90 Jedi that I would gladly start over to see the village quest return to the game.
Originally posted by KzinKiller Well ... I think that would get them better subscription numbers than they have today. The week they opened a classic server, it would probably fill up, although many of those would be people migrating from NGE servers.
But ... it wouldn't get me back.
First, because the same inmates are running the asylum.
Second, because I put time and effort into SWG before only to have Smed trash it.
It can't be saved as long as the people who betrayed the customers are still there, and they did betray the customers.
If they flat out sold the Classic code to a third party that would be free to run them as they saw fit with zero possibility of influence or meddling by SOE ... that I could subscribe to. But it would take that.
(Snipped to save space)
Damn you KK, you keep posting exactly what I am thinking, and 100x better than I could ever state it myself.
But yeah, this basically echoes my thoughts. The only thing that would get me back to SWG is if SOE were no longer involved.
Give the original SWG code to Raph's MMO startup company and let THEM run it, or something, and I might try it -- but SOE must have absolutely NO involvement. If they touch it in any way, I'm not interested.
Only way to save swg would be to sunset it and put it to rest, allowing sony to save face. or wait.. no.. give swg back to LEC and let them give it to bioware and allow them a long deadline to get it right.
I am an SWG original, I played beta 1 with thunderheart. Flame pre cu and I - WILL - destroy you. PS Veteran as well, big shout out to emerald NC FTW!
I think I would open a classic server, merge the NGE servers so that the game is actually populated and not empty, and then work on balancing both server types, and I would not touch a single other thing until everything is balanced properly (except glitch fixes).
There is only one real way to get me back and pay a monthly fee other than bringing the pre nge up...I would pay to be there when they shut the game down, off forever. I would pay to be there when it dies. Thats pretty sad.
At this point I don't think you can save SWG in it's current state. I believe it's time to start fresh. A new game with one last chance. Currently if they roll back ( which I doubt will happen) we will lose any benificial stuff they have added since. The problem is that noone is satisfied with the current game. So that is my vote go back and start fresh.
Just because you leave and hate the game doesn't mean it's gonna go under. This is just like saying that some company is gonna go under because you quit or got fired. I know it makes you feel all fuzzy inside thinking about it, but things just don't work like that. I really doubt the servers are going to be shut off anytime soon. SWG doesn't need saving... it's already been saved with the riddance of the haters. I know I'm gonna be loved around here for disagreeing with an "elite" member but I honestly don't care.
Opening classic servers would never work. You all are looking at the past with rose colored glasses. Even if they turn the game back to what it was few would be happy with it, because they aren't the same people they were when they fell in love with the game. You can't forget the past. You can't wipe away the memory of the other games you have since played. You can never go back. You have changed.
To be honest I think it has gone to far to fix SWG all they can now do is damage limitation to hold on to as many subs as they can as long as they can.
What you should have asked is what can save another Star Wars MMO from becoming a flop if SOE again has anything to do with it, i.e very likely that if there is an SWG 2, they would be involved. What can they do to repair the damage they have done to their image, reputation, customer base and how they can improve their abilities to produce a good MMORPG not a MMOAG (Massive Multiplayer Online Action Game) which SWG-NGE is.
I'll add my penny to the above by saying they need to get their heads out of their collective arses and realise they produce complete crap in terms of online games, that they employ people who are arrogant, have poor game design skills / knowledge of what makes a complete MMORPG and simply have a God complex. All that mixed together means what ever they produce themselves will turn out to be incomplete and a steaming pile of cow dung.
What SOE have realised is they will never ever beat blizzards numbers for WOW for a single game so they now have a new stratergy to make money and that is to get as many good looking MMO's under their belt as publishers so they get a cut out of the profits for printing and distributing the games and directly hosting them. So eventually if they get 8 decent games under their belt with 500k subs they aren't too far off blizzard and can say they have 5 mill subscribers (including existing games) etc and probably spin it saying they offer more variety as a company etc. At the end of the day it is pretty clear after dealing with SOE that they only care about money and will do anything to make money.

Bring back all the other professions and do away with this kiddy combat system! For a game to be called star wars and for it not to have any sword or LS play in it is crap, combat just seems like who ever can press the attack button faster wins. There is no dodge or block or counter attack button at all! So I say I say do away with this current combat system and bring back all the old professions and ad more content and get rid of all the bug , or as much as possible, then put a real nice combat system in! Then and only then will it have a real chance. Apitty to, I use to love that dam game

It's fun...Come on back!
saving the game would be easy and regardless of what $med has said, is quite possible
1.move nge gameplay to half of the current servers
2. put classic gameplay on the other half.
3. $oe and L.A. issue officaly say "we are sorry" and give vet accounts 3 free months to entice them back.
number 3 is why it will never happen. $oe has come close to saying it was a mistake. L.A. never will.
Make it into a MMORPG again, not the FPS it currently is.
Allow character customization of skills. As long as they allow no individuality in character skills it is just like every other FPS out there.
Institute item degradation back into the game.
Add creature handlers back into the game, that of course is a personal preference <grin>.
-Pre-CU servers
-Free Servers
I will not pay for a game, when I know they will probably wipe all my hard work away overnight.
Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.
pre-cu

I would like to bring up an overlooked part of this whole mess.
A lot of what brought me to the original SWG was the crafting. It was the best system I had ever played.
All I wanted to be was a Droid Engineer.
Through the help of my friends we had started a small community and were having a lot of fun. Game/character balance needed help, but it was working.
You see I am disabled and not that good at fast twitch type games, so an immerse crafting system is a major part of what I look for in an MMORPG.
I dont think focus groups, or many people at all think of the disabled when making or designing MMORPGs and their sybsystems.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers
