" Not this time I'll wager. PS3 would beat up your computer. Also, it's designed only for video games. Your computer just isn't. "

A console launches and for 1 or 2 months is more advanced than components you can buy to build a gaming pc, after that you go 5-6 years where pc components like graphics cards are coming out monthly and the console only has minor patches and it otherwise half a decade old tech. Both companies bounce their console tech and pc tech off of eachother but PCs are vastly more frequently upgradable.

Sorry but consoles are for n00bz, thats how they make money, simplicity. Go into a wal mart in a crowded 'diverse' state like here in southern california and look around at the average joes video game companies have to appeal to in general. Its not really surprising to think installing ram (if they could even install the game itself) is beyond their mental comprehension and so they just pick up a ps2 and madden nfl. Thats the only advantage consoles have.

For me as a simple consument this is a disadvantage.
I was sick of constantly upgrading CPU, graphics, having driver-problems, and so on. So i added a 360 to my pc a half year ago. After a day of hard work it is sometimes relaxing to just lean back or lie on the bed and play. Noobs forever! ;)

Well I really like my 360 because of the graphics but I'm dying to get my hands on a PS3.  I can't wait to play FFXIII because I'm sure it will be killer!  I've heard that the PS3 will have 22 new games by Christmas so I'm excited about that too!

I don't own either of them yet. I own XBox, PS2, and the Gamecube, but I play none of them really anymore. I usually just play the PC. I am a Star Wars fanatic, so XBox was my favorite...plus it had the Elder Scrolls games and Fable, not to mention Halo. The only thing PS2 offered that was worth a damn that I was interested in was the Final Fantasy games, but even those I got bored of quickly.

Both the PS3 and XBox are over-priced in my opinion. So if I ever buy one it will be after they drop down in price considerably and the one I buy will be the one that offers all the Star Wars games. However, if they offer the Star Wars games on PC, I won't buy any console until they drop down in price a lot.

i hope the new frikking ps's wont break like my ps2 did, went through 3 ps2's and still own 1 halo xbox, im not sure what was causing the ps2's i owned to break but they always smelled of electrical burn smell when they died, i vote  for xbox over ps just my opinion and personal experience.

Yeah... the problem with PC's, is even though you can make one better 2 months after launch of a console, they still cost a lot to keep upgraded to just play the PC games with good graphics, so even though I'm a PC > Console guy, I have to say it is a nice deal to get a console over a tricked out PC because it costs a little less and there are usually less problems you have to deal with. Now I'm definitely not buying a PS3/Xbox360/ or Wii until they get a decent library of games. I mean $60 a piece for these shitty launch games plus $250-$500 for the console? F. That. I'm probably gonna wait for first price drop on console, and see which one has games I actually want to play. I used to buy systems at launch, but since I got a GameCube and it really ended up with 10 good games, and the library was 10x bigger on the ps2 and xbox; I think I'd only buy a console if it was a monopoly Sony+Microsoft+Nintendo+Sega making one console for less than $400 with at least 10 GOOD launch titles. Then I might buy it. But fuck PS3 and 360 till then.

The very reason I didn't buy a 360 is because the graphics were unimpressive when it came out.  The only game that looked really good was fight night round 3.

The graphics for 360 games are just now looking as good as I would have expected at first, and considering the previews I've seen for the ps3 games are already on par with what the 360 is showing, I'm thinking that in 3-4 months the ps3 will have blown the 360 away as far as graphics goes.  Also the Sony only games are going to be far more amazing IMO.

Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, FF XIII, just to name three that are worth buying the system for alone.  I'm honestly just hoping that Dead Rising is brought to the ps3 eventually.

However, the downside of any Sony product is that the first wave is always buggy.  it was like that with the ps, the ps2, the psp, and I expect nothing different from the ps3.  I'm going to wait until the summer of next year to get one, when I have a better selection of games and so that I know there aren't any silly buggy problems with the system.

Playstation 3 games will never look better graphically than xbox 360 games, you will never be able to tell the difference with the exception of playstation 3's greater high def capability, which close to no one has the TV for anyways. go ahead and flame but im right

Okay step back and take a look at the hardware of both.

cell of ps3 has theoretically more power and an advantage with physics processing. But is an order of magnitude more difficult to program for, this difficulty may go away or it may actually not go away.

XBOX 360 power pc core by 3. is less powerful than cell in terms of brute force. But runs with less overhead and can be exploited more efficiently also easier to develop for.

graphics chip of ps3 is a 7800 gtx with modification

graphics chip of the xbox 360 is a revolution ...it is the next step in graphics processors and almost an order of magnitude faster. Which is ironic as someone recently pointed out because the xboxb 360 would handle 1080p better than the ps3 woul based only on hardware.

Or you could just read this article.

most comphrehensive article EVER. Michael "Optimus" Perry goes beyond
the range of an average review and breaks the PS3 and 360 down piece by
piece, giving us a never before seen analysis of arguably the most
heated debates in our recent console memory. PS3 or 360?

Wow that article is truly intense.  I have a computer science degree and some information was beyond my knowledge, perhaps a computer engineering degree would be more helpful.  Nevertheless a great find.

    What about the Wii?
  • enzymeenzyme Member UncommonPosts: 464

Tech specs aside, I am only going to go where the games are.

As of right now, MGS4 is not one to make me shell out 600+ dollars. I think I can wait a year or two for a ps3.

    I'd personally buy a PS3...well you see

In the end PC always get stronger than console at some point and very fast(as you can upgrade a computer and not a console).

What I'll do is wait till the next next gen console get out(like ps4) that way I'll be able to get a ps3 way cheaper and buy all the best hits at such a low price. I'll be patient and save alot of money!

The problem with PCs is the cost of updating PCs tends to get high.  Playstation and Xbox upgrades every 3-4 years, however computers get outdated in about 2.  Even if you updated your PC as often are you updated your console, good luck upgrading your computer for $300-400.

Calling someone a noob in an argument almost automatically nulifies your statement.  In any case, when did you buy your graphics card and when did you buy your high end ram.  Personally I have updated my computer twice since PS2 came out for about a cost of $800.

    I've had a PS1, Xbox and now the Xbox360 (and I've played on Ps2's...)

all I know is that while the consoles are about on par for processing power and graphics ability,

microsoft will be way ahead of the PS3 in terms of Online Services (since PS2 online sucked very much)
thus I think it will lend itself easier to mmorpg...

however I'm just buying a reasonably powerfull 17" laptop and going back to computer...

I prefer the mobility over the big-screen gaming of the xbox360 (but for a normal consumer it provides a very good gaming rig at a sharp price!! it can almost replace the pc in terms of multimedia (with the online trailers/helpmovies/demos available for a console its way beyond what the PS2 is at this time. I have my doubts wether Sony will get their online service right the first time...)

I've got the xbox 360 and let me say its pretty awesome. I've taken a look at the PS3 and it doesnt have anything that really interests me or anything in my opinion that is better then the 360 when it comes to gaming.  The ps3 is new and has the blu-ray. but the Games are same as the xbox 360s except for Resistance which in any case isnt as good as Gears of War.
Ps3 does have good hardware and u are gettin a lot for 500-600 but save ur money and get a 360.  Also pick up like a 19" widescreen LCD or somethin to play it on.  Get some hi-def out of it, it looks awesome.

Plus, when halo 3 comes out you'll wish you had a  xbox 360.
and.  Biowares "Mass Effect" looks like a promising game also.

    Go 360.

PS3 for me cause it got the games that I wanted, Final Fantasy XIII, Assassin's Creed, and also Devil May Cry 4. If we are lucky, maybe the next Kingdom Hearts game be out for that as well.

Too me, we have not reach the gaming technology to make it look like a movie as well, it might need better quality graphics and the first console to become virtual world in 2012.

The ps3 is a better deal.

It plays hd movies for only $500.

For a 360 to play hd movies it will cost the same ($299 + $199 for hd-dvd add on)$500.

The difference is that cheap ps3 will have a 20g hard drive and other hard ware that is just plain better.  That cheap 360 doesn't even come with a hard drive.  So for the same price (if not counting the other hardware  that the ps3 has that is better than the 360 or the advantage of blu-ray over hd-dvd) the simple fact is you get a hard drive if you go the ps3 route.

Not to mention that the ps3 online system is completely free.

You are spending the same for a 360 and not getting as much.

If you go the expensive route on both still the same price($600).

Except the ps3 will have 40g more and wi fi ready out of the box.  Plus the obvious other hardware advantages.

Side Note: The original xbox cost $250 I think maybe it was $300.  Anyway the wii is hardware equivalent to the original xbox minus the hard drive and it still cost $250 5 years after the original xbox.  This means they are way over charging and using the other consoles high price to hide the fact that their relatively low price console is actually way over priced.  Motion sensors don't cost that much!  The ps3 has them and they don't charge $100 for their controllers but, if the motion sensors did make up the difference in price for the wii they would have to cost at least $50 per controller.  Let's not forget the nun-chuk controller is sold seperate for $20 which you will need for most shooters and other games.

    PC ftw!

Hehe, nikoa very funny. FYI on the Wii you do not flap your arms around. Everything can be done with quick, sharp movements. That whole rediculous flapping thing was a marketing tool. Do your research before you zoom to crude assumptions. Nintendo knows what its doing and they have my (by my I mean my parent's) business. Do your research before you come to assumptions. Assumming makes an @$$ out of you. Idiot.

I love the Wii, it looks fun. Though I'm afraid the library of games will consist of nothing but nintendo, and probably not much online ones either.

I find it interesting that people say the PS3 has better games than the Xbox 360.  Let's look at some facts:

    - Gears of War is better than anything on the PS3 including Resistance, just check out Gamerankings.com and see for yourself.

    - Even the games that are available on both platforms look better on the Xbox 360, this has been said more than once by more than one news source.

    - The Xbox 360 has more games and is easier to design games for.  Sony fanboi's try to say that in a year from now PS3 games will be better than Xbox 360 games but no one knows whether or not this will be true.  If Sony doesn't get their productions up which mean a bigger install base they will lose developers, they already lost Rockstar and that was HUGE.  CEO of EA just said they have to sell 500,000 PS3 games to break even, well guess what they launched less than 400,000 consoles and even if they sold 1 million the chances of selling 1 specific game for every 2 consoles is rare.

    - Xbox 360 will have Halo 3 and while PS3 will have Metal Gear.  The last 2 Halo games have received better reviews than the last 2 Metal Gear games.

The bottomline is more people own an Xbox 360 than a PS3 and the Xbox 360 not only has more games but it also has better games, and the games on both platforms look better on the Xbox 360.  The rest is just speculation but if you want to waste your $600 today and limit yourself in hopes of what the PS3 will be next year go right ahead.
