A question from a noob :)

I never played Eq 1/2 but it seemed to me like it always came new expansions, like 3-4 in a year. That seems very much to pay for when you have to pay monthly to. Do you think this will happend to Vanguard to?

Really it was the norm for it to be a expansion every 6 months not 3 or 4 a year.

It's still much, like the way they did it in wow. No expansions, just 1 upcoming soon :)

Well Blizzard takes forever to release anything:) And when EQ first released it was a year before the first expansion. And expansions are not all that expensive.

Given that the Vanguard hasn't even launched yet, who knows what expansions will come and when.

As far as what they say ...

    http://www.vanguardsoh.com/faq.php?eid=2&faqid=2&ptext=Beta+%26+Release

    - 2.6 Do you plan on having expansions?

Absolutely. One of the most powerful aspects of MMOGs is their ability to be both patched and expanded. In that sense, they are never truly 'done'... new content can always be added both to the existing world as well as to new areas, opening up all sorts of exotic and exciting places to explore.

Of note is that internally we are planning ahead for expansions and the “big picture”. We intend to address many of the negative expansion issues from the past by preparing now for making transitions to new content and dealing with level limits, item power and inflation.

    - 2.6.1 How often do you plan to release expansions?

We think that will become clearer during beta and as the massively multiplayer market matures. We are also interested in exploring monthly, episodic content, and would need to make sure this was coordinated with the expansions.

What's most important to us is that, whatever the frequency, expansions are not rushed and contain realistic goals in terms of content and features relative to that frequency.

    - 2.6.2 Would expansions be store-bought or episodic (patched), or both?

Hopefully both. More on this later.

    - 2.6.2.1 Will there be downloadable free content as well?

Yes, there will be a Vanguard Live Team in charge of refreshing and revamping existing areas.

    - 2.6.2.2 Will there be monthly content, like a story arc, that will continually progress?

Perhaps -- it's something we are considering. More on this later.

Well, based on previous things I've read, they plan on releasing an "expansion" once a year that will add to the greater map, or explorable area. They've hinted at new Cont's, classes & races, and have said you may not need the expansion to go there, but you will need it to play the Races & Classes that are added.

They have also said they plan on adding content constantly, as well as a large addition every alternate 6 months, for free. As far as what this would be, they used the "example" of adding a small Island, or new dungeons on the existing map.

All of this is not official, just discussions you can find in interviews & posts, but it looks promising. I wouldn't expect any official word until a few months after Launch. Check out the Vanguard Resources Thread above, it has some links you may find helpful.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Never will you see 3 expansions in a year, maybe 1, and not in the first year of release. Besides, if you're casual and haven't plowed through the content yet, why buy the expansion? Expansions are largely for people who eat up content much faster than other people.

SOE is good about cranking out expansions - better than anybody else. I don't like SOE, but I respect them for that. Of course, a lot of the stuff in their expansions will be broken, and a lot of it will unbalance or trivialize other parts of the game, but hey, it's new content at least. image I miss that about EQ.

The story we are told is that SOE isn't involved in making this game, so this should be irrelevant to Vanguard. But I suspect SOE will keep their feet to the fire to keep expansions coming. And once SOE buys the game outright, as they will, expect expansions on average 6-7 months. It's at that point I will give serious consideration to buying this game.

It's ironic that I find myself counting on the company I like the least to save the game from the folks I used to like the most ...

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

i love for the game to get expanded 3 or 4 times in a single year.  but alas, since it has never happened before, there is no reason to assume it ever will.  and dont spread crap, Amathe.  you get crap stuck on your hands.  to clarify, SOE is not going to buy Sigil out.  thats a true to life "troll" comment.
