This is getting ridiculous, I began downloading it earlier in the week on my laptop (60 gb HD)... the game is now up to FIFTEEN GIGS and STILL asking for more space. It seems like it never ends..
Is my download corrupted somehow and it's getting multiple files, or is this bloody game really going to take up 20 gigs and more?

40 Gigs, Sweet Merciful Crap...
I know they haven't released the specs. for the game yet, I would imagine that most people who want to play this game and get the best experience out of it are going to have to upgrade the system.
What are most people going to be running? Just Curious.
Size does matter!
Personnally, if I enjoy a game, the bigger and the more stuff there is with, the happier I am with it. If you dislike Vanguard, then I guess it size is really annoying. But if you are really giving the game a chance, then the bigger it is, the better. Sigil wouldn't waste ressources for no reason, so I am pretty sure there is a damn good reason it take that much space!
It can't be as bad as FFXI release was...and to think I paid for THAT and never was able to play...yeah...still holding a grudge at Square over that!
I am still hoping, against everything logical in this world, that Vanguard, will have, raid-free servers! In which case, I want as many *good* surprises as possible, so don't want to know too much anyway...against everything logical, I still HOPE, that, for some obscur reason, there might be, a raid-free server! After all, this team bring PvE servers, so bringing raid-free server is kinda logical, in a way, for this team. If not, well, there are other games!

"By my size you judge me, do you? But where you should not!"
Well, I can't chime in into this. Size does NOT matter. On the contrary, if anything all I hear about the size has made me more sceptical than any other detail hear about Vanguard. I just can hardly imagine a huge world as this can be really filled with enough fun (in the broadest sense) to be good. What good does it do, if 20 of the 24 gig are boring, empty landscape, having 20 gig I never use, besides the we-have-no-fast-travel-system-ride-8-hours 20 gig screensaver?`
Really, games are about fun and content and story. At least last time I checked. So whats all that fuzz about the size? Is a Whopper a better menu than real food because of the size?
No, that makes me suspicious - more than any other detail I hear about this game. There is no friggin way ppl can programm 24 gigs of game and they are all fun. And besides, I understand things are always geting bigger and more demanding, but the pace has clearly accelerated and at some point it just skips to be consumer friendly. The hardware demands of recent RPG for example are by NO WAY justified by what I see and get (Take Neverwinter Nights 2, Gothic 3 as examples for that.)
So, enlighten me, for what is it used? 20 hours intro video? 50000 NPCs with long dialogues? 300 settings of textures to chose?

this is funny, cause for alot of people, if a game is small, it translates to no content. but here we have a guy that is complaining about the game being too big. i didnt even know that that was possible. sorry, but look around you pal, size clearly matters. look at the sears tower, eiffel tower, big trucks, and basketball players and bodybuilders, then tell me size doesnt matter. bigger is better. Oo and the whopper, to those that enjoy large sandwiches, yes, it is better. much better. 1/2 lb burritos......need i really go on (im making meself hungry). i dont really know what the size is comprised of, but neither do you. so why dont we wait and see before jumping to conclusions about how "empty" and "barren" the world is. or how long its going to take to travel. like it or not, not having fast travel helps with the emmersion factor. its a fact. no point in arguing, besides ive been sidetracked. back to the topic at hand, make it big and wide. the bigger the better for me.
edit: also, the 50000 NPCs comment. first you complain that the world is too sparse, then you complain that there will be too many NPCs? hmmm......

Bigger is better if you always have something to do where you are or where you can get to in a reasonable amount of time.
However, if a game is highly group dependent, and players are hard to find or cross paths with, then a bigger world is not a better world.
