HDMI failure? 720p limitations? Overheating? No upscale/downscaling system? Oh my! I feel sorry for that bloke who shelled out $10K for his playstation 3. Honest.

I have watched the news over the weekend and today a bit.   It looks to be getting very low marks on set up, controller design (ie very similar to Ps2 game controllers) and next-gen feel. Though most agree the graphics are pretty great, they see them similar to those of the 360.

Time will tell. It was supposed to be a mid year release, instead it was released at the end of the year. Hopefully in 6 months it will be the system PS3 was envisioned to be and things will be fixed.

Thats why you wait for glitches to be fixed - what happened with the 360 release...? first 3 batches were all duds, well 85%  were, thats probably 2 months of dud 360's. I even knew a guy who recieved 4 360's from the manufacturer before he got a working 360. So I see no difference then normal atm

Weren't a few people hanging their 360s off wires and strings to help keep the thing cool?

    Gotta give the console chance.

    1. Launch consoles will have problems

    2. Games at launch wont be great

Too many people are judging too fast, as soon as the games come pouring in then people will stop bitching. You gotta remember the 360 and PS2 both had problems too.

Tell him to sell the PS3 at eBay, he could buy 50 XBOX's with the money.

Seriously though, I could SOOO see these technical issues coming up...

Consoles are junk anyway.  Why anyone would want to tie up their TV for video games when they have a perfectly good PC sitting in the corner is beyond me.

The only negative thing I've heard about the Wii so far in terms of something not working, is the speaker on the controller that's supposed to play sounds to be more immersive. I've read the quality of the speaker isn't so great so it comes off cheap sounding. But, I haven't really sought out much info so I'm not sure if it has any issues besides the one I mentioned.

Only other technical problems that I've been hearing about the Wii is in relation to the IR motion sensors on the controls. All of the problems are stemming from either 1) outside sources of IR interfering such as an excess of sunlight or a really bright/powerful lamp, or 2) reflective surfaces, like a glass table or mirror, within the room adding additional noise.

These kind of things are to be expected. I feel sorry for the people who qued up all day and night to get their grubby mitts on a console to find it shags up after a couple of days useage. Woe is them.

Here has been the biggest issue I heard about in the Wii's release.  When you play to long it tells you to take a break.  Wii has had a surprisingly smooth launch.  Congrats Nintendo.

Still you should have expected a non-smooth launch from Sony just from the launches of the PS, PSP, and PS2.  All the same old same old.

I think some countries require games to warn the players after they play too long.  I remember hearing that when Guildwars added the hourly warnings, I heard that it was added as a requirement for games in another country.  I think its rather good really, if nothing else it helps me keep track of what time it is.  image

I was reading about the new Zelda game some today, and it looked pretty impressive.  It just reminds me of how much I miss epona from OoT, she was so pretty.  Then I downloaded the Carpe Diem open beta, and they have lots of horses that look just like OoT epona.  I didnt get far enough in it to get a horse though, I couldnt stand the camera angles  image  Anyways, I was a little dissappointed with the art style they chose, but I guess thats nothing new in the Zelda series.  I havent been happy with the art since Zelda IV image  Except for the N64 epona of course.

And why do they continue to have link grunt and scream everytime he swings his sword?  image

Not having played Z:TP yet (3 weeks to launch here) besides the 'lacking' of Epona (and Navy), i'm suprised you expected 'somthing new' from Zelda.. Having played the lot, I can say one thing: 'Don't change whats not broken'. Besides the 'small' diffenerces in a few titles (Zelda '2' ':LA  being sidescroller, Ages/Seasons being multi-cart, and MM being 'more' puzzle, less dungeon crawl), every non-spinoff Zelda title has basically been the same, and it's sold. All I expect from TP is the same 'classic' Zelda style with the immersion facter of the controler (witch is the main selling point of the Wii)

Added to keep on topic: Not surpised at the list of 'faults' the PS3 has, like many, many things, it's a rushed christmas release pushed out to make money, do we expect any other reason why?

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

Aah so we're applying the MMO principle to electronic goods now ? , release something that is 1/2 finished and does not work as advertised, but just wait and all will be OK in several months !

This is a consumer product, it should work as advertised out of the box, OK there will be the rare machine that is DOA but it should work as expected on delivery, as far as I can see this launch is just another nail in the coffin for Sony's reputation.

Anyone who thinks its OK for a international corporation to ship a product that is not ready for the consumer, whether it be electronics or MMO's is the reason the corporations think they can get away with shoddy work and dishonest sales and marketing tactics.

Oh I'm not expecting anything new, I'm just excited to see more of the old.  image  I think I'm starting to get more and more fond of the old as the years go by.  I hope they dont ever change Zelda!

To be honest, I never really expected what we got from the transition from Zelda IV to V.  They added a lot of strange sound effects to Zelda V, like the screaming/whining/grunting link sounds.  I wasnt really expecting the asian style characters either.  It has grown on me since then for the most part, and comparing Zelda V to other games, it really doesnt look very anime-ish.  I more or less just remember getting that impression when I first got the game, and the whole anime thing felt so foreign and weird to me.  I still dont understand it, but I think I've learnt to cope with it when it comes to games.  image

I missed a preorder for ps3 by 20 min at a gamestop that just opened up a few weeks ago.  I got the wii at midnight launch (preorder) instead.  I had a harder time getting zelda though, got lucky stopping by ebgames on my way home from work and they had just recieved a couple, but I couldn't tell you too much about it cuz I can't put down DBZ: BT 2.  The motion sensing adds another dimension to what is normally a button mashing fest.  My only complete on the system to date, is the nunchuck extension isn't 100%, sometimes you shake it and it doesn't register, other times you barely move and it does.  The graphics aren't on par with 360, but the immersion is definately there.  Lovin it.  So glad i didn't walk in to the store 20 min earlier to get a ps3 preorder.

Seems to be a growing trend with gamer developers this year. Release a broken product and fix it later. And gamers are so stupid they accept it. This did happen with the 360, as well with numerous games that have been released and clearly arent finished, Neverwinter Nights 2, Dark Messiah to name a few.

They are allowed to get away with it because of gamers have this mentality. If your shelling out 500+ dollars for a console, or any product you shouldnt accept it having problem, whether it has been out for 1 day or 1 year. IF you bought a new car, and it had major issues would you just say "well, new cars always have problems right off the show room floor, in a couple months maybe it will get better."

Rushing your product to upstage your competition and not please your customer is a poor busniess strat. Yeah on paper you've just thumbed your nose at your competition but your product is broken and shabby. But your right, to many people are judging to fast, stop your bitching, its all about the $800 beta test.

The 360 and ps2 are not in the same line. its xbox and ps2, and the fact that microsoft didnt learn from its mistakes and released a broken 360, and sony has done the same only proves that its more about saying you have a superior product and not actually making one.

well im just happy i live in europe we dont get ours untill march so hopefully it will be fixed by then.

any way the ps3 has a little thing called a firmwear updater (like the ps3) anything that can be fixed by downloadable content will be sent to ps3 via their so check it regulary.
also guys give it a chance, the xbox360 had problems, the Wiis got problems and so does the ps3, why complain most of these things will be fixed over time so just wait.
    (sorry for any doggey spellings)

You go to McDonalds and buy a 99 cent hamburger, and scream at the teenage workers if there is the slightest problem. You buy a game for 50-80 bucks (arent Xbox360 and PS3 games in the 80 dollar range?), and if it doesn't work people expect consumers to be patient. You buy a system for 600 dollars and people expect consumers to be patient.

Is it just me or is there a huge problem with this scenario? Shouldn't we be more lax on the 16 year old doofus than we are on "experts" that make 100k+ a year?

Please don't tell me that I should expect the products I buy to be worthless. That is the communist way, not the democratic way.

The PS3 technical problems, in comparisons to what?? The XBOX 360?? My PS3 works fine, however when I bought my Xbox 360 last year I had to send it back because of all the technical problems it had, and then I had to wait 3 months before they sent me a new one. PS3 technical problems, sure of course there will be some of the consoles that will have them, so did the XBOX 360, in fact, over a year later and the XBOX 360 still has not fixed some of their technical problems they have in their machines, really I am still waiting for my High Definition that was promised to me by Microsoft when they told everyone that the XBOX 360 will play games in true High Definition, well its been over a year and yet we all still have to see that problem get fixed, and what about all the backward compatible games that they said will be playable, I guess after over a year of waiting for them to meet those promises they just dropped it, oh and then there is the overheating problem, that started over a year ago, and still today they have not fixed the machine, no in fact what you do have to do is either send the machine back or order a separate part for it, and do you know how long that takes to come in, that is, if it ever does come in once you order it. I know of people who have ordered the parts months ago and still have not received them. I would think fixing the machine or just including the part with the machine would address that problem, really in reality I would think after over a year of being on store shelves with no completion for over a year I would have thought that all of the technical problems the XBOX 360 had and still continue to have would have been addressed and fixed by now. But I guess that would be common sense, or better yet, it means Microsoft won’t have to fork out more money. So really what is the problem with the PS3 that every other next gen gaming console is not facing when it is first released? Bring it on down now.

Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.

Except if they are Goldeneye or Wipeout or Grand Turismo.

If you can't get your launch titles right, there's not much hope for you.
