Dofus... the good, the bad and the ugly...

AbeliusAbelius Member Posts: 19

Here is a list of the reasons I still think Dofus has to be reckoned with:

The good:

Give me another game where you have as many and as varied classes as summoners, rangers, swordsmen, panda-like creatures, shield-fighters, mages, fairies, dwarves that can stop your time, huge bramblers, cat-men, bloods, shadowy creatures of the night that go invisible, gold-diggers, and I haven't mentioned all of them... And no, thse are NOT professions, these are classes. Professions include fishermen, hunters, alchemists, swordsmiths, hammersmiths, jewellers, lumberjacks and farmers, just to name a few.
Gimme another game that gives you (I have counted them) more than 5 thousand different maps. Eve nthe players that are there from BETA still find spots they have never been before.
Gimme another game that has more than 2000 different weapons! Not talking about rings, amulets and boots; just hammers, staffs, swords, wands, daggers, knives, axes, shovels and more...
Gimme another game that has graphics resembling manga, anime and the new waves artists so cherish these days, and DOES NOT fall into the Japanese niche or neo-expressionism. That is priceless!
Gimme another game where I have met people from China, Japan, Israel, Palestina, Croatia, Argentina, the UK, Germany, Iceland, Hungary, Nepal, Romania, Egypt, Bolivia, Spain and Rwanda, just to name a few...

The bad:

The server (even tho getting better) still sucks. I have talked about this plenty much, so no more bad things about it today...

The Ugly:

Is there a way to say "my char" is ugly in Dofus. I came to the conclusion that the developers (Frenchies go!) have spent quite some time analyzing what different types of personalities can a typical classroom or a factory or an ofice building get to have. And then they created the classes for the gameplay in such a manner that no matter how weird or how non-weird you are you will always find a class that you feel is JUST LIKE YOU!!! Kudos to that!

Abel Kay

The only good I can point out in Dofus are their cute, and sometimes hilarious designed graphics, as well as spell effects when casted upon. Other goods are making good friends and gaming together such as doing long hours of dungeon runs and ghost fights.image

However, plenty of bads image all mentioned in my post, Why I quit Dofus... Horrible game! There are also information I've posted in Ratings section.

DOFUS is having a poll wether to sell kamas themselves or not (probably on eBay), so I published this on their community forum:

This is the greatest game ever, in its class. But if the producers of Dofus think they will deterr people from buying kamas by doing an online poll then they are not being realistic.

I have 8 paying accounts at the moment (my wife, my mom and my brother excluded), which means I spend 8 x 7 bucks a month ($56.00), give or take a penny. If I would want to help myself in getting a better belt or a better set of shoes by buying 200 thousand kamas for some 10 dollars on eBay, hell, I would not think it twice!

There is always the two types of people, the ones who like to have fun, fight, run around, and make friends; and then there is the ones who like to make kamas inside the game. As a CRA lvl 120+ hybrid, guess which one of them I belong to. And guess which of the two groups bring more money and have more paying accounts on Dofus... And if Dofus wants to ban my eight accounts for saying that it would be better if they would sell kamas themselves, hey, there is always Ragnarok or Trickster Online to play...

But my final point is that I THINK they will be selling kamas (and they should, just like IMVU.com does) themselves. Go, Dofus, go! Keep on being the damn best game ever!!! Personally I bought the book (last year) because I wanted to know the hidden recipes. Then I bought the little figures. And trust me, people who sell kamas and people who buy them on eBay ACTUALLY HELP the economy, instead of hurting it.

And PLEASE dont disagree with me here, be REALISTIC..!!! 2 MILLION players on other games where this type of economy is "LEGAL" can't be wrong, and DOFUS deserves to be in the top notch of games, as it is the only game in the world with such cool graphics, game storyline and such a wonderfully created concept...

Well, selling kamas is one thing, but gaming is another... If they're just going to sell kamas, why not sell characters who are already lvl 100+... and so on just to save everyone the time to lvl and whatsoever..Where's the fun in that? image

A game should be an activity to help keep your brain focused to whatever you're trying to solve, and exercise your brain other than solving all these math/scientific problems from school. What's solved in a game, you get rewards and you deserve to use these rewards and show it off to other people what you earned. It goes the same with school. Your professor slapped a big fat A on your papers, you're proud of yourself. Sometimes, professors give you extra points to erase all your faulty points for the good work you've done. That's what YOU did for yourself... On the other hand, if a professor slapped a big fat A on your paper and you didn't do the homework, then the A really wasn't meant for you. It's meant for the person who did the work for you.

If you think about it, why pay for something that's really not necessary when you're already paying in full for 1 account? That's just like buying a new pair of shoes that comes with extra unmatching shoe laces, and you had to pay that extra $2!  I didn't want to become a paid member on Dofus at first because I think gaming online should be free since I'm already paying for internet priced at 43.99/month image. But giving a bit of gratuity for the hard working team members of a game shouldn't be asking much, this I agree. Paying for anything extra, something you didn't deserve to earn is just cheating and plain jane wrong, exclamation point!image

Yeah, you buy kamas from dofus on E-bay, get your kamas, make new gears on dofus, whoop, and that had you paid 10 Real Dollars out of your own pocket....and have you ever thought that maybe one day, Dofus will send out a newsletter saying "We are going out of business and will shut down in a couple of weeks :( sorry for the inconvenience". Then what was that 10 dollars for anyway? Could have spent it on food and satisfy your hunger, or find some neat clothing on sale from Gap. Even if they're not closing down. Would you be spending the rest of your life and money on this one game? o.o I wouldn't... but if virtual means EVERYTHING to you, then I've got no comments on that..image

My point is paying for something extra for a game to gain something you really didn't deserve is wrong,  and if Dofus decides to allow their members do that, then I guess that will degrade their profile by a lot, because Dofus taking money for granted is cheating! If cheating is allowed everywhere, then why do we have so many rules and policy regarding cheating? If I can cheat, then why should I even go to school? I can just hire you to do my homework, take all the credits and graduate with a diploma with my name over your's. If I can cheat, I'll download bots to help me game whilst I'm asleep at night. I didn't do these things because I believe the only true rewards are the good and hard work I've done.

    Hypotetical situation...

FULL Scholarship at the coolest university in the world: 2 million dollars.

FULL Scholarship at the coolest university in the world, and you get a car to get you from campus to class: same as prior PLUS 60,000 dollars.

FULL Scholarship at the coolest university in the world, a car to get you from campus to class, and you get to have a private tutor so your homework ends up being better than the people who can't afford it: Same as prior PLUS another 120,000 dollars.

(AS YOU CAN SEE IT SOUNDS PRETTY MUCH LIKE THE REAL WORLD OUT THERE - SO FAR...) :P

FULL Scholarship at the coolest university in the world, a car to get you from campus to class, a private tutor so your homework ends up being better than the people who can't afford it, PLUS a cool GPS device so you don't get lost from campus to class: Same as prior PLUS yet another 10,000 dollars.

    Two years later:

Ooops, the GPS device is not supported anymore by its manufacturer, and the warranty or recall options expired 3 days ago...! LOL...
