is ffxi a good game to start playing?

in Final Fantasy XI
i have just stoped plaing WoW and was woundering if ffxi is a good game to start playing? also i was woundering if i start is there any classes thet would be best?

    hey FFXI is a great game i just started a month ago and im really enjoying it.
    although in the first ten minutes of playing it was very daunting at how little i knew about the game, where to go, what to do and that kind of thing eventually i got the hang of it.
    also i didnt expect to make any friends so soon but i have and i can tell you there are some really nice people playing this game.

    its fairly easy to pick up and play.  the class system is somewhat unique in that you can lvl any class you want with the same character.  actually there called jobs.  and you can switch them from the very beginning of the game.  quite addictive if you ask me.  the fav.  jobs change from month to month.  me favorite was the ninja.  just me 2 gps worth.

    i have played ffxi for 3 years off and on, yes it is a fun game once you get into the content and yes i do like it alot, but there is some bad aspects to the game the grind is one of them after about lvl 13-15 with any job you really cant solo except if you play bst (beastmaster which is pritty much like hunter to a point).   When you hit lvl 18 you get your sub  job if you do the quest and it is the first thing that your really get excited about in the game after that you have to grind more and get to 30 and unlock some advanced jobs witch is very awsome. but if you really want to have fun get a good linkshell that does the missions in the game, if you do start it is going to be really late so you will have to look for a group to do the ZM missions and CoP missons. but once you get the hang of it and get to a decent level and know what job you want to play you can play this game for awile non stop.

    There really isnt a "best" class, its what you like.. every class has their good and bad aspects.

    I would deffinatly recomend FFXI to anyone who enjoys mmorpgs.
    There is no best class, however there are ones that area easier ones than others.
    Monk/Warrior is the easiest job to play and start out as. Your job in parties is generally easy, just punch.
    Ocasionally you will need to pull and such but not aftenly. White Mage/Black Mage woul be the second easiest and fastest leveling to 75 because you always need a whm. If you like healing, i recomend that.

    well, thats kind of not true. There is a lot of class balance issues. Warrior is easy to level but end game, when there are 1000000000 of you and the fact that wars suck in a lot of end game stuff then youll be assed out. There are way way to many damn warriors in this game and to be frank, we dont need anymore rampage bots. Most warriors really suck and show no work ethic or pride. Most of them dont level all there weps, most of them only have /ninja and just kind of get by on shit equip (also most of em dont know how to pull, there is a reason i have never seen a war pull in dynamis). Warrior to me is what the drk was a few years ago, when every n00b played it and didnt give two shits about the impact there crap play had on how the class is viewed.

    Not to go in to much detail but most needed jobs end game are

    nin,blm,smn,sam,drk and rdm (i list rdm last because there are so many of them)

    Goal is to be in the alliance...

    there are certain jobs that with the best gear become very strong, like pld for instance is pure trash but with end game equips is a beast but its getting it there. sam and drk are two jobs that very strong end game but hard to level, smn has become easier with there haste upgrade and ever sky ls will hound you, you can cherry pick a bit.

    but blm and ninja are so over powerd its not even funny.  I am one of those uber end game drks but if i could redo it i would have started at my main as a NINJA (in fact i am playing one atm), they are just to strong and flat out a blast to play and something very important to understand, ninja will never be nerfed.

    yeah Ninja will never be nerfed because they dont have alot, but are killer as is.  I have never played a class that gets pretty much all its skills lvl 40 or sooner. But god do I love it, very fun and rewarding class and cant wait till I am 75 to do all the good stuff =)  lvl 50 atm!

    Yes, it's a very fun game to play.  I like the way you can level your character with the jobs too.  It is pretty addictive so start playing when you have a lot of spare time.

    It will be a shock when you start playing.  Just give it some time and it'll grow on you to a point where no other mmo could replace it.  Just be careful it is addictive.

    i was in the same boat. im taking a break from wow and needed something to hold me over until burning crusade so i went back to ffxi. i am loving it. this time around im playing a monk and have already gotten my subjob quest done and all. i'm about to go get a chocobo license soon.

    One thing i am going to stress though...the people are 10x nicer than in WoW. They bend over backwards to help you out! I am in a linkshell and needed someone to help me get a magicked skull. within 2 minutes of asking i had someone coming to help me out. he rode a boat all the way over and met with me which was totally out of his way.

    all in all, i recommend it. you will like it! it's my simple yet fun MMORPG.

    Yeah, it's a great game to start playing and I'd recommend using the Dark Knight class because it kicks ass!
