Well. Ive seemed to notice, whenever someone acts immaturly, like flaming a post or topic, being biased on gfx or something a person always says, Lawl, Go back to WoW 12 year old.
Can I ask how the reputation of this game got so bad? I mean, I play WoW, And it a fun game in its own right. Sure the communitys not great, But neither is Maplestory, or Lineage. Is it jelousy that WoW is the top selling MMO in the western market?
Ps - Sorry if it seems im poking you with a cattle prod, But im curious.

You hear jokes about them all the time.
"The one who begins with nothing, gains everything slowly."
Change. People dont like change. And every MMOG player that has played
BEFORE the "Age of Warcraft" feels or has felt the impact of this game.
It either drew people away or there was collateral change to their
games...
...PLUS, there wa a paradigm
shift and armies of new, unexperienced, not-so-hardcore-players flooded
the "scene", the secluded subculture or RP, MMORPG, hardcore-effort and
10 hour playing sessions. All of a sudden, there were normal guys, like
"Tom from school who has a girlfriend and plays for only 2 hours a
day"...
The identity of the sub-culture was and is watering down...
So, bottom line, the
veteran MMOG players were and are, afraid of WoW because it changes
their peer-groups code of conduct. Nothings for granted anymore, the CS
player, the football player, the ultra geek and Linda Hamsey from 4th
grade are right there playing MMORPGs.
Change - scares - people. Its so simple

Which FF Character Are You?
good post and i somewhat agree, but i would say that the main reason that WOW is used like it is, is because the average age range (or at least mentality) is considered lower than other MMOs. this is not always the case obviously, in other words, not everyone that plays WOW is a 12 yr old. but i can honestly say this, ive met way more 12 yr old like people that play WOW than i have on any other game period. that includes f2p games. the only game i would say is worse about that is Runescape. /dodges incoming flaming bullets
again, this is a stereotype, there are many exceptions to this and all rules regarding MMOs. but i believe this is the overlying factor in why WOW is the butt of those jokes.
Oo and in some cases, yes, it is jealously, lol.

Well, People dont rant about Guildwars or Runescape, DIablo II or Counterstrike. And why not? Because those games are not rooted in the MMORPG scene. Those games are somewhat different, either only in small things (like instancing in GW) or big time like counterstrike (which has incredibly large player numbers and its own subculture of LAN and league)...
The critical point with WoW is, it is hybrid, lika an reverseRNA-Virus, it had and has impact on the veteran players who play WoW (im in a pretty large WoW ex-EQ1 guild) or feel the collateral change of the game; And on the other end, it drew many of the average fps/freegame multiplayers (with a considerably lower median age) to MMORPG.
So theres the hot spot. This mixture gives almost everyone in the scene the possibility to bash the WoW player group they dont like. Vets can say there are only 12-year olds or 12-year-old-acting players in WoW, young, infinite time owning players can flame against casuals, Players of other games can call WoW easy, stupid, repetetive and item-centered (which may or may not be true, the interesting fact is that they DO care a darn lot about a game they dont play)... Which brings me back to my initial thought, The identity of the scene is watering down, thats what counterstrike has gone through when it became REALLY popular around 2000/2001, thats what band-fanbases go through when their band becomes popular, thats just how things are...
...I myself are a vet, been playing since meridian 59 days, but i never identified myself with RP as much as it'd be necessary to see players as a peer group. Though I know, the vast majority of players actually have a heavy-metal-like worshipping culture of "their" hobby...
