The new ban wave

nightbird305nightbird305 Member UncommonPosts: 272

As of 1am this morning, WoW users from around the world have been banned. The people affected were apparently all 3rd party users (especially Glider was hit badly), and even the ones who recieved a 72 ban could this morning wake up to an email from blizzard letting them know they got banned.

I ran my account on my friends pc who has been using glider for a while, and because of that i got my one and only account with my main who had just dinged lvl 60, banned from WoW.

Like many other people who got banned, i for one will not be returning to wow. This is ofcourse not to mean i am for the use of 3rd party programs, however i can not just sit here and accept the fact that blizzard permantly banned my account in the beginning of my 3 month subscribtion.

Anyone else get banned? if so are you sticking to wow or moving on to other games? I luckly started playing EQ2 after i ding 60 with my main, and tbh its a lot more fun then wow.

Do you know the reason for it?
I mean, Blizzard just wouldn't ban people for no reason.
They would have to have a reason...even if it is a shitty reason.

Good, I'm glad another bot user got banned!!

Oh I know you are going to stick to your story of not running Glider and that it was only installed on someone elses computer, but do you really think we're that stupid?  Glider had to be running for WoW to detect it, you were running a bot program, you got banned.

I don't even know what the hell Glider is.

Good going to Blizzard then, because by the sounds of it this must have been quite a large blow against the gold farmers. It's nice to hear about these things and my respect for Blizzard has increased slightly. However if your story is true I can only say that in my opinion 1,000,000 justified bans at the cost of banning one inocent player isn't worth it at all. But then again I guess it is your wrong doing for playing on the computer of a known bot user in the first place, then again I respect the fact that I couldn't possibly pass judgement on you as I have no facts about what may have happened.

Being banned is not such a big problem for me, my account had been cancelled to make sure that it wouldn't reoccur anyway seeing as im playing eq2 now. However my main had just turned lvl 60 a week ago, i only wish i could've played him abit more but o well. Also did i mention that blizzard had just charged me for 3 months of gaming ? yep.

Also to the previous poster, my mate explained to me ( he also got banned btw) that glider launches WoW for you, and that it does something with the game window which wow's warden detects. This is what happened when i logged onto my account, my mate had started the game through that program and therefore my account got blacklisted. A little note aswell, there are bugs with the new warden, its apparently been banning linux users who have used a needed program to start wow. I really dont believe thats fair either and my empaty goes to all the other innocent people who were banned.

Finally, like i said, previous botters ( who recieved the 72 hour ban) were banned this morning too, this is just cruel in my opinion, if those users have stopped botting after that warning. I mean why use warnings if you get banned anyway?

I really hope blizzard relooks these bans, but untill then i'll see you in eq2, with all the snobs >_>

Ah I see loads of people got banned due to a 'glider mod' which basically automatically killed stuff for you. This is quite interesting because if Blizzard were banning bots they would also detect these 'glider mods' and must have had a tough decision on what to do about them knowing they risked losing regular customers.

If your going to use bots to farm stuff for you I think you deserve to be banned. The whole point of the game is play it not go to sleep with a bot on and wake up the next morning with 100 or more gold.

WoW Glider is a bot. Plays the game for you, like a real person. I know several ppl who used it and say that it does everything to lvl you up to 60.

Cedega users are not being banned just because they use Cedega.

    http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=47009071&pageNo=3&sid=1#40

" We have been testing our security software with Cedega. Cedega was used and tested before the security procedures and during the security procedures. From this testing we have yielded no hits, meaning Cedega, by itself, does not incur an account suspension.

We have accounts of several Cedega users who have been playing normally during the time that these processes are running. Again, these people are not being suspended simply because of using Cedega or Linux.

We are in contact with the people at Cedega and following up with them regarding individual accounts.

To answer the OP's question, no it is not against the ToS to use Linux or Cedega. We continue to monitor the situation to prevent cases of false positives and to rectify them if they do occur.

Thats completly wrong.  WoW's warden will scan your whole PC looking for anything WoWGlider related.  When it finds anything related to WoWGlider, all accounts in your WTF folder will be banned.

Wave hit my 60 rogue and 60 warrior because of blizzards stupid fucking mistakes.

Oh well, this is like my 3rd account either banned or compromised thanks to blizzard.

Cedega revs every 2-3 months.  Read the forums more deeply, a ton of people all using linux were banned.

Blizzard never takes the blame for anything, they are perfect....right?

As some users have noticed, Blizzard's recent
security updates to World of Warcraft have been incorrectly identifying
Cedega users as cheaters, and banning them. We have been in direct
contact with Blizzard's engineering team about this issue, and they
have told us that it is not their intention to ban Cedega players. We
are currently working on the issue, and hope to have a resolution
    shortly.

We will post updates on www.transgaming.org when we have more information.

My question is....Why would people want to use a bot to play the game?

I mean, sure, you don't have to take YOUR time farming the money, or YOUR time lvling, but if you're not able to go through the challenge of getting your own gold, or lvling up yourself, just don't play an mmo.

...This would be directed at people who actually use those things.

The issue is not the people who were banned for a legitimate ToS violation, it is for the people that were caught up in the snare who did nothing wrong. Botters should be punished, but mass bans doesn't seem like the best way to serve loyal customers.

So basicly you just admited to botting? So how is it their mistake?

If you know wow scans for bot programs, why did you think you would get away with it?? After having a couple of accounts banned you should have learn't by now.

Also if your account is compromised its your own stupid fault not theirs.  Most likely you got keylogged from that bot you used....

The Wowglider forum is filled with people like this.

Some swears at Blizzard because they have a life and wouldnt be able to play MMOs without glider image

Some had several accounts and lost all because they had glider on one. image

Some used glider for 5 minutes. image

Some played on friends PC who got glider installed. image

The last one is unfortunate, but you should have asked your friend if he use glider :)

The gold farmers have been hit hard this wave aye, but in 2-3 weeks they all back on new 20$ accounts and opdated gliders image

Blizzard is suing the Glider programmer

    Blizzard 1 - bot farmers 0

Imagine if nobody used bots, the AH prices would be more normal, the drops on items and currency would be higher etc. If you dont have time to play a MMO, go play a action-RPG. You are ruining it for yourself and others.

Some Cedega users are getting unbanned. Transgaming has the info. Yeah for Linux!

BTW, when you all realize how crappy Vista is, you can download and install Linux for free. With Linux, you dont need to worry about Spyware, Viruses, etc.

Don't cheat and you won't get banned.      It was your 3rd account banned or compromised thanks to you.  You're a cheater.  None of your accounts are clean.

I'm gonna laugh when blizzard wins the case against the Glider inventor. It's gonna be funny to watch botters disappear overnight when they find out that they can be sued for big bucks, plus hopefully jail time if they ain't got the money to pay.::::02::

I don't know about USA but in Finland blizzard would have absolutely no case against tha creator of glider. It is completely legal to produce an addon to someonelses program. Even if it would be against some rules you have to agree if you are PLAYING. You couldn't sue a botter either, because you don't make a legally binding contract with Blizzard.
