Waiting for Vanguard, suggestions?

Tenk575Tenk575 Member UncommonPosts: 116

Welp, I am waiting for Vanguard.. can't really find anything to do until then. I was hoping you guys might be able to help me find a good mmo that I can play in the mean time. I am getting my computer tweaked out right now for the next line of games that come out so I am not on the greatest computer in the world.

Things I dont mind and thinks I like about MMOs

- Graphics aren't a big deal to me.

- PvP is probably the most important aspect for me in anygame.

- I don't like to Grind, I do like to think I have accomplished something when I hit max level.

It honestly doesn't matter whether the game is f2p or p2p.

Just looking to hear what you guys think I should do.

Thanks in advance,

Tenk

If PVP is important to you, and you don't want to grind then er..why are you waiting for Vanguard?

Anyway, if its just something "to do", then check out Guild Wars. its not an MMORPG, but it does have plenty of PVP in it.

Vanguard will have PvP Servers :P

and if you read on Vanguard they are pushing the non tedius grinds.. which i have no problem with once so ever.. they also said in the FAQ section that the grind wont be amazingly difficult but it will feel like you did something when you get to that certain level

Yup, specific servers are a good option.

GW is prolly your best bet, if you want a glitched PvP system CoV and CoH might be worth a check.  Some interesting ideas on the PvP, even if it never really work...and the PvE is nice, the devs are really trying to promote the PvP, but their fans are not PvP fans...kinda funny.

Just because they say it doesn't mean it will be true.  I remember in the gameplay video they said they are offering unmatched combat for an mmo, yet it looked drab and incredibly boring; even more boring then the Korean mmo Shop games released last year.

They didn't even mention how.  They just said what the people want to hear "We are going to make it easy, but not too easy so you feel like you got somewhere"  The statement itself leaves itself to a person's own opinion about what is too much and too little grind without showing a clear method on how it will be done.

Really I think gameloading is right on this.  If you want good PVP in any form, why are you waiting for Vanguard?

well the game isnt out yet so there is no telling if the pvp will be good or bad.. and if what the creators of the game are saying is true.. then it sounds pretty cool to me..

I'm going to have to agree with Cleffy here. If you look at the current batch of MMO's coming out next year, Vanguard seems to be the least PvP-oriented. Both WAR and AoC are being touted almost with PvP first, and less of an afterthought. After scouring the Vanguard site and forums, I only could find only passing comments that there would be some PvP servers.

Vanguard is being heralded as the spiritual successor to EQ1 by many, with a heavy PvE focus. In my opinion, one of the hardest things to do in a game that is focused on PvE is add in PvP that will be meaningful and not completely one-sided. This is especially true in an item-centric environment, which, after reading the Vanguard forums and their dev quotes for a while, I get the feeling is going to hold true in Vanguard.

The best way to wait for Vanguard would be to freeze yourself until it releases.

I'd keep waiting and search for another mmorpg because Vanguard is going to be another disappointment.

    Forget about Vanguard.

Pirates of the Burning Sea will have real PvP with item looting.

There is apsolutely nothing to do until Vanguard comes out, this is driving me crazy too...

    What i did...

    I tried playing Coh/Cov , not bad

I pondered if to buy EQ2 EOF , but getting into another MMO right now would be pointless

I had high hopes NWN2 multiplayer will fill the blank (it is not)

Thought of playing GW Nightfall - but it is basically single player game now (with new heroes alienated already bad community)

So i went and did the most unlikely , i purchased a FPS shooter - Battlefield 2142

It is kindof mmoish cause you gain in ranks as you play, unlocking new weapons and abilities. Which is addicting as hell...

I kind of suck big time , but i am having a blast...

    recomended...

Hehe guys, I think he understand your point.  It is you that doesn't understand his.  He WANTS the PvP vanguard is offering, he never says he want the "BEST" PvP out there.  For many reasons, he seems to like the PvP, no matter how limited, that Vanguard is offering.  Checking at EQ, it is rather easy to have a good feeling of what Vanguard's PvP will be, yeah more developped than in EQ, but nothing like DAoCish for example.  For all we know, this guy could have been a GL on the Rallos Zek server and never really like other "more PvP-oriented" games.

Just like I would be extremely happy in a raid-free server, as long as ALL raid-loot is distributed in a way or another to face the Game Balancing as well as others (automatic and free, merchants, in the last group encounters, as long as nobody could even possibly think that raiding would be an "easier path" to acquire it on these servers).  However, in the raid-free example, I am, for some reason, convince that we would become a majority of players and it would be the best thing to happen to Vanguard...

See, Vanguard's PvP, despite it flaws, has SOME nice aspects, that PvP-centered games can't have.  This is why I suggest him to check CoH, a system that most players consider glitched, maybe, I said maybe, he would love it.  Some does and not only Cryptic staff.  image

Try SWG, you can spend the next 18 months getting used to SOE until Vanguard is finally released!

This was a semi-serious post (disclaimer)

    PVP try EVE.

Well I didn't read any of the replies to this thread so forgive me if I repeat what others have said.

I have two solid suggestions for you. First is Anarchy Online, it's free for the basic game and very in depth. There is a ton of content and if you want to play the expansions... Shadowlands, Alien Invasion and the upcomming Lost Eden then it won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Secondly there is EvE which is imo one of the best mmo's ever made. It does have a free 14 day trial so you can try before you buy which I really like.

Between those two games you should find enough to fill your time.

Well I am in kinda same boat as you, can't find any special mmorpg to play, but if you are looking for good PvP I would maybe rather recommend taking a look at The chronicles of Spellborn which looks awesome considering PvE and PvP.

Also we got Thrones of Chaos which is mainly built for PvP rather then the heavy focus on PvE. This game sounds good on the paper but it will rely heavily on the community since you can attack whoever you want whenever you want, you also drop items when dying.

I will at least try both of them here, but Spellborn is the mmorpg which looks most appealing when it comes to PvP since everything is about skills rather then the stats on your armor/jewelry in the long run.

Both these games is due to release in quarter 1 so still some wait though. Star Wars Galaxies have a 14 day trial you can sign up on, at least some decent PvP there which maybe can get you occupied some.

Well, it's not an MMO, but you could try a single player RPG like Oblivion or Gothic 2/3.

To me, the Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion, or Gothic 2 (haven't played Gothic 3 yet), are about as close as you can get to a "single player" MMO.

Either way, these games offer hours and hours of RPG gaming. You can get Gothic 2 Gold from Amazon for less then $20 delivered.  These games could keep you busy for a couple of months.

The funny thing is that when Vanguard actually releases half of the "omg im gonna die if vanguard isnt released soon" people will soon after having tried it just start waiting(hyping themselfs about) for another game. This is of course true for pretty much every game not just Vanguard.

But yes, GW has plents pvp, try that while waiting :) UO is prolly a bit outdated for you I think, but the pure pvp servers (Siege&Mugen) are loads of fun.

    Try keeping yourself enternained.

Learn some basic martial arts, and then go out into thr street and fight some cats and dogs. Once you feel strong enough try some basic children, and the occasional teenager if you can find a groupmate to attempt him with. Collect the money and items you find along they way and improve yourself.

Eventually you will be able to attempt raids, like gangs of people. The great thing is, its what everyone has been waiting for, its  PvP game with REAL PvP cponsequences, because if you lose you die and cant res, and even if you just get badly wounded, your still going to get your money and items stolen.

Graphics are ultra-realistic, you can see the sweat on peoples face.
    Gameplay is entirely sandbox
Your character has complete freedom of movement

The only issue is it doesnt support WASD controls and your avatar is pre-generated.

You should check out the EQ2 PvP servers.   I hate Sony more then
most, but our guild just started up on Nagafan and we are having a
    blast so far.
