Premise:
The storyline of Escalation-Online is as developed as you are prepared to go into...
Escalation-Online is set to be a modern-day progressive story, which allows you to choose through your actions just how deep into the environment you get. The progressive storyline means things may not always be the same around you, as it is not just the player we intend to breathe life into, but the world itself too.
The UK is in a state of division across three main ideas of thought, those who want Government, those who want complete freedom and those with no strong opinions either way just trying to live out their lives. Within these schools of thought you have further divisions such as, those who are lawful, those who prefer criminal acts and once again those who do not care to be 'classed' and so on. We aim to emulate the diversity of culture that exists in the UK
There is no right choice, there is no true ideal, for the time being there is only survival long enough to establish yourself to hold true to such values. Will you escalate to the next level? Only you, may decide.

Answering a question: The "card board box thing" is a fixed weapon put into the test client so we can test out accuracy, recoil, and range of a standard rifle or handgun. We have a whole bunch of weapons, that range from baseball bats rapped in barbwire(sp?), to Automatic machine guns...to sniper rifles. All of which are set to their real size, unlike the "card board box thing" that is supposed to be a tommy gun. - Some of these weapons will be added in the soon-to-be released test client, .08.

uhhhh this game looks just like Ruin Online why make game that looks just like another...

EscaAustin a few questions, this is a MMOG website so I will assume the game will be a mmog;
1. will it be sharded like WOW or Unsharded like EVE? (A non-sharded world but areas on diffrent servers aka EVE would be a Pluss)
2. there is actualy very little information on the gameplay on the site, this can be a good thing becuse it means you are open to suggestions (I again assume). One of the key items that caught my attention was crafting. Do you have plans for allowing the player to make everything in the game? (being able to make everything from the clothes to the vehicles based on skill would be a plus)
3. Its a Sci/fi game right? (A major plus, a heck of a lot of us players are playing EVE only becuse its a Scifi game)
4. Your actions define the reaction to the enviroment around you and you are responsible for them? (A major plus if the player wants to go off killing everything in site thus having his rep drop and *no one will deal with him and local attorities start to become intrested) *Works both ways, you cant buy on black markert if your reps too clean as well as get "nastier" jobs but drop your rep too low and make everones KOS list in that area, IE True Risk vrs Reward
5. Vehicles? (A plus if done right)
6. will add more from home, it time to clock out at work
BTW my perfict MMORG is if you take ShadowRUN combine it with BattleTECH and Freelancer. It would not be that hard to do, just think the Runs could be everything from standard snach and grab wile jacked into the net to stealing a prototype mech off a moon base to hijacking a ship in space. But more on this later.

Yes, this game will be a MMORPG.
1. I don't fully understand what you mean by "shared". Please explain.
2. The site, as we speak is being re-vamped with loads of more information and screenshots of the game. We are fully aware that the site does not give enough information and we are already ahead of you . As far as crafting goes: Yes, you will be able to create, and possibly design your own items. However, you won't be able to design every single item in the game. Clothing and Weapons are possible.
3. Escalation-Online is a mix of diffrent genres. - And yes, SiFi is one of them.
4. Your actions play a major role in how the environment around you reacts. We are not saying you can go on a killing spree, as this is potentialy unfair to weaker players. However, there wont be as nearly as much restrictions during gameplay as most MMOG's have. - Yes, killing people for the hell of it (will be possible in some areas of the game). However... Law enforcement will be on your butt. You better make sure its a clean murder.
5. Vehicles? - 100% Yes.

My perfect MMORPG: Escalation-Online
The basic difference is in how the database is handled as well as how instances are used. For example EVE is a single-sharded game, what this means is that all the players are in the same universe. This also means that all the players information is kept in the same database. The instances are the different solar systems; these are handled by multiple servers that are all linked together. When you move from instance to instance you could be moving from server to server but are always in the universe unlike WOW which is unsharded. Simply put, WOW uses multiple unconnected realms (universes) so you can not move from the Graymain realm to the Blackwatersdeep Realm.
This is one of the few things EVE does right, you can move from the Shema system to the Jeta System by moving through 12 star systems (instances) so technically everyone in the game could move into the same instance. They dont because it gets really laggy when you get over 100 people in the same system and people have no reason or need to be in the same system. Play COH/COV and you will see a smaller version of how moving from one area instance to another area instance works.
Ok back to the list:
6. Battle tournaments. Not talking battlegrounds but actual tournaments which work like this:
a. Infantry tournaments: a daily 20-30 people DM ladder on a huge 4 city block Hogans Ally. You pay 1000 credits to enter which goes into a pot. 50% of the credits go to the final pot the other 50% is split between the top five players (#1 gets 25% and pick of 8 *dropped items, second gets 8% and pick of 4 *dropped items etc..) Final round winner takes pot as wells as pick of 50% of the rounds dropped items
b. Mech Tournaments: would be run the same way, Winner gets 25% of qualifying rounds pot as well as pick of 8% of the salvaged mechs parts/weapons. Final round winner takes pot as wells as pick of 50% of the rounds salvaged items
c. Space battles: would be run the same way, Winner gets 25% of qualifying rounds pot as well as pick of 8% of the salvaged fighters parts/weapons. Final round winner takes pot as wells as pick of 50% of the rounds salvaged items
7. *It is important for death to mean something; Im not talking gank someone and take their lifes work thats stupid. When a player dies he should drop a random item from credits to that new silenced assault rifle they just bought. Dieing In a tournaments they should drop only items. Oh, you should not actually die, When you are going unconscious your data device which is used for everything from getting jobs and mail as well as reading the news is also a built in personal teleport device does an emergency teleport to the nearest hospital. This while teleporting you out will cause 1 random item you are carrying to drop so if you have nothing but your clothes, well you could wind up pants less so make sure to ware clean underwear.
8. The Data Device is how you get your contracts, based on your rep with the different corps when you log onto the game you contact the Smith for the corp you want to work for, this places you in active mode. When a mission comes up you are flashed a msg containing the mission info. If you accept you are teleported to the mission area by your data device. Now this works two ways, the corp A mission runners are grouped in an area and at the same time the Corp B mission runners are also teleported in. Play a WOW battleground to understand this concept. You can be anywhere in the universe because when you accept the mission you will be teleported to the mission instance. This can be a Star Base that needs protecting or even a space ship that is being high jacked. Think of the possibilities, if the mission is on the net then you dont get TPed you simply go to the nearest terminal and jack in.
9. corp, clans and gangs. Player owned structures are important but the more you own the more the other NPC corps as well as the PC corp will start to despise you. Remember Risk Vrs reward, if a player corp gets a certain size then NPC/PC corps should start creating runs against them.
Argg.. have to get to work.. is this along the lines of what your game will be like?

it will be exactly along the lines in which you asked, but... There
will be things somewhere along those lines. We haven't really discussed

You are somewhat on track with our death system. Now I don't want to
give to much away, but it will be along the lines of what happens when
you die In Grand Theft Auto. Money and a few items may be taken for
payment.

There will not be 'missions' in Escalation-Online. We will be using
'Quests', in which you select any quest, from anyone you want. Also...
Player created quests may be a possibility.
- The forums were down for the past day, but are now back up and running. We switched over to a brand new server, which runs much smoother. I'm sorry if it caused any inconvience.

- However, we have been releasing test clients along the way so everyone and anyone can test out the game, and have some fun. The past 7 test releases, it has been all about the server and graphics. With this soon-to-be release of .08, it will finally be more of an actul "game". A ton of RPG mods and situations are added into the game, aswell as weapons, and the ability to swim.

Just to tease with a few of you, my boss is allowing me to say ONE feature that will be in Escalation-Online Pre-Alpha Test .08. The feature I chose was: Swimming.
