Alright, this is my first post on this website, and would like to share my opinions about Dofus with everyone here.
Today shall mark my first year for playing Dofus, and to be honest, this gaming experience is really poor and I believe Dofus needs a lot more improvements. One of the worst cases I've experienced with this game is with people who are just power hungry in the game. These people just walk around with their almighty characters and also cheat by creating more than 4 characters to help collect drops to make these "pwnable" gears/equipments, as well as earning extra money in the game.
This is how the gaming system works with dofus... supposedly, you're supposed to collect these "Dofus eggs", which is all I know about the game. There is no storyline to this game which makes the game confusing already. You build a character and raise them up to lvl 100. At lvl 100, your character stops learning any more spells, and all you get is additional stat points which you distribute to make your character's spell/self better. You also work on your character in terms of equipments and gear which gives you stat boosts in addition to your character spells. To make these gear that makes your character so "powerful", you fight the same monsters over and over again and hope you get a certain drop in order to make this rare gear. Sometimes, dualing with monsters take more than 2 hours per fight, which makes it sound boring. Also, Dofus is not a completed game because there are 6 dofuses you need to collect, and most of the eggs aren't released yet!
Secondly, in order to achieve these rare drops, you need a character who will accept to loot these drops for you. I remembered trying to obtain a certain something to make this gear for my Eniripsa (healer class), and guess what? Chances for that drop is 0.05% and it takes at least 5 Enutrofs (looting class) to help you loot that rare item in addition you need to fight the same monsters over and over again until you get that drop. Characters all have their own "job" to gaming, which depends how you build your character. This is where all these element damages are projected from your character. Not all monsters are suitable for your character, in other words, if your spells/weapons deal with fire damage, then you're unable to beat monsters who resists fire damages.
Dofus did a poor job on class balancing. Though the Dofus team worked on this situation 8 months ago, many customers were dissatisfied with their results including myself. Today, there are still many people who are complaining about a certain class being overpowered.
Their PvP system is really horrible, those who don't want to participate in PvP may also be aggressed by other players, meaning a lvl 100 can easily aggress a lvl 10 character. Even with punishments for aggressing non PvP players, those who keep their PvP up doesn't really bother with the punishments.
Job profession takes a long time to lvl, and quite boring as well. My character is a farmer and baker both lvled to 100 since those two are the easiest. Goodness the clicking of my mouse makes my hands fatigue and I had to sit for hours and try to turn these cereals I've chopped up in the fields and turn them into flour. Because of that process, I tend to fall asleep.
Though I pay to play for Dofus, their servers are terrible! Lags, dropped connections, you name it, I've been through it! Not only the disadvantages of losing energy points and health points for your character if you're kicked out of the game whilst in a fight, your pet loses HP and healing powders are costly for pets. Even with 100 Mbps connection (DSL), I had to play this game in "low quality", which really kills the graphics. People are creating more than one account, which makes the lag worst. Secondly, as a paid to play member, I've had problems on Dofus, and saw many of my friends having problems with the game as well. I've made posts and sent in tickets to be reviewed and taken cared of, but nobody was aware of my tickets and left my remarks to sit there for months and the situation wasn't solved.
I've already left Dofus. Though I still have a couple months subscription paid for, I wont go back playing. This is a horrible game, a waste of time and money. If you want better gaming experience, I'd say go for something other than Dofus. I am not here to rant or make you all feel Dofus is bad, but these are the reasons why I left Dofus. If my opinion had offended you, then I apologize for this wasn't meant to be an offensive note.

Totally agree on thse points:
Server lag. Horrible!
Customer service sucks.
Disconnects while fighting. I hateto heal my pet because of that.
PvP should be improved. A big player should NOT be able to agress a low level player no matter what if the low lvl player is not into it...
But I disagree in these:
Classes are well balanced to me. If you think (as most) that srams are over-powered then check me out (lvl 124 cra) as I beat the hell out of a sram lvl 135.
Professions are well thought thru. I am sword smith and jeweller 100, and lumberjack 98. IF you fell asleep, that doesnt mean the game is boring. Try some coffein.
Drops from monsters are random, and that makes the entire thing interesting. I play Trickster Online where drops are pretty much hard-coded. Not too much fun if you ask me...
Hey, I love to run around with my own 8 chars and get allthe damn drops for myself. Nothing wrong with making a full team on your own if you like the game.
Cheers man, and if you find a better option than Dofus (has to be 2D and has to be turn-based) let me know and I will be glad to immerse myself into it.
Cordially,
Abel Kay
First of all, you said, classes are well balanced. You need to think about the old timers not necessarily yourself, but my eni at lvl 116 could not even beat lvl 12x cras. I did not have the money to unlvl the spells I've already maxed, nor have I bothered to scroll my character at all. Sure it's all about yourself, you have to do it all by yourself, spending more money to pay for more accounts, etc. On the other hand...I volunteered to defend my guild perc and lost..I wasn't even appreciated the fact that I jumped in hoping to save the damn perc when it's already past my bed time and for that effort, I was yelled at for losing. I've heard MANY people saying they've spent over millions of kamas just to unlearn a spell. If class balancing is necessary, Dofus should make changes that blends in rather than taking full effect from day 1 of the change, so that satisfies those who had already been up there, and those who haven't. As an Eni, I was informed that Enis had 3 weeks in advance before the changes being made. That, I applaud for letting us know ahead of time, then one day, my heals went down to 1-15 heal points per spell casted. Really upset with that sudden change when they said 3 weeks! Then after 2 weeks the balance had taken place, our Regens were taken away and we were penalized to have our regen word casted once per turn. Why should I have my good spells taken away if Dofus had made their mistake with class balancing? If class balancing should be fair, why can't players have their point distribution resetted as well so we don't have to go through all these trouble unlvling, on the other hand, everyone ends up being happy that at least they can re-build their character(s) because of that sudden change?
Secondly, I totally support banning multi clients in addition to this class balancing. One of the reason why they've class balanced was because they wanted members to group up more often with other members to game together. If one can multi client, then why class balance? People still can cheat that way. >.> You still end up being able to achieve drops for yourself and rather forget about your fellow friends. Also, let's say you logged 7 of your accounts and invited this one character to fight with you. In terms of drops, of course you'd get more loot than that one person who joined you. That's kind of unfair, don't you think? And if you're not a generous person, this person may just forget about playing with you, and, if you place yourself in that person's shoes, how would you feel being able to get so much drops whilst the other person who multi clients earns more than you? I've gamed with this one person who multi clients with an extra lvl 100+ enutrof. He had looted all the goodies whilst I get all the junk. >.> he also did not offer to share the goodies with me, and because of that, I left that one guild because I do not want to follow a leader who's always taking things for granted. If Dofus had changed to 1 account per IP address to be logged on, then I hypothesize that would solve some, but not all problems.
It takes way too much time and in-game money to lvl jobs. Hey if you like to spend hours clicking and develop strains on your hands, then I say go for it and good for you for a job well done *applauds*. Why not trying to chop cereals in the fields for hours, going back and forward with only one character online, grind them to flours and then heading to the bakers to bake? You only have so much pods on one character and running to and from the bank, paying for just accessing your bank account takes up too much time. Not all jobs are like that, but take a look at fishing. I created a Feca on my same account just to fish, and boy can I tell you how boring fishing is! Line in your reel, wait 15 seconds, pull up, and if you get nothing, you get nothing! I'm not going to waste my precious time into something where I have to wait and click so much, and then developing problems for my hands, but because I wanted to save in-game money for cat food, I decided to fish. Sure you have 8 characters, but I'm not rich. I have to pay my monthly fees, and take care of my life outside of Dofus as well. Yeah, you can say you're married, have to take care of kids, wife, etc.., I applaud you again for the efforts and a good job you've done, but I'm different. I only get paid 7.50/hr, working 40+ hours a week and sometimes overtime as well >.>. I have to stand 8+ hours with limited breaks, and sometimes no breaks taking care of customers and organizing the store. My feet feels like I'm stepping in a room full of crabs with each crab pinching my feet one step......at a time.. I play Dofus just to spend some time to relax and try to rid the stress for the day temporarily and I can't even have that since Dofus is giving me a different kind of stress. I can't fight with my friends because this one person keeps aggressing me even if I had my wings down. That's why I quit and went on ahead to play other games online.
Just because you have your 8 accounts to game doesn't mean a lonely Eni like me don't/shoudln't have problems with drops. I had friends on Dofus, but they're all busy trying to get drops for their own selves. When I was low lvled, I had a friend who wanted a full farle set. I helped him day and night no matter how stressful he had become just hoping to get him the drops he needed, he promised he'd help me out after he achieves his full farle set. After he got it all, he just forgotten about me and kicked me to a group of low lvls to play with....some friend >.>. I also had a friend who wanted to make a renewed, I went on ahead and fought in the tree forest with him for 2 weeks just for those dark ambers because I had some hope that he'd help me out since I'm helping him. He too, had promised me he'll come help me with the drops I need. >.> what do I end up getting? Nothing.... I talked to him about it as well and this was his reply, "because so many people helped me with my renewal, I was too busy spending time with these other people and had forgotten about you. I'm also in the process of making other new gears for myself and I apologize I was unable to be there for you.". What's the use of trying to seek help to get a rare drop for a special something? Sure, you can say I was unlucky to make friends who are like that, but how many on Dofus will be generous to help? I've asked at zaaps, tried alignment chats, guild chat, friends, you name it! Nobody responded to me! Yeah drops are completely random, and since you like that, good for you, but try to game in a situation where you have to game alone with one account and nobody there to help you out. >.> I don't think you'll think the same.
Like I said, I'm not rich. One account is enough for me, and I believe multi clienting is one of the problems why Dofus lags so much. Because of this lagging problem, I had to play this game in Poor Quality mode. Why can't I get even the good quality graphics out of this game when I paid Ankama in full? That's just like promising a customer they'll get quality-made products delivered on time, etc., and then letting them know their order had not arrived yet on the day of their pick up, and then having the wrong products delivered then all you can do is apologize to the customer and hope they'll accept the product that was delivered when they've wanted something else. Sure we're all humans, I don't expect Dofus to be 100% perfect, but at least make it fair for all to experience the same. To be honest, I spent almost 70% of my Dofus time helping other people out, but once they get their special gear, "bye bye, you're no longer useful to me" and rather, they went on spending time with other high lvls, leaving me kicked back to the help I wanted. Sure, that's my problem, but this is my gaming experience with Dofus. I've done my all and my best, and I'm not liking the results and this penalty of stress I had to face. I didn't pay to be more stressed out. I didn't pay to be ignored, and I definitely did not pay to support a game that supports cheaters and bullies. I'm one of the customers who walks out of the Ankama Studio unhappy with their service and product. What's even worst is that I can't even get my remaining months of refund!
My router connects my real life wife (also married to her in the game), my mom, my little brother and myself tothe internet. We al live under ONE big roof, like in the good old times.
Does that mean we would ALL have one IP address; and therefore be forced to take turns playing Dofus, even if we have 4 computers at home?
Cordially,
Abel Kay
OK, I get all your points. Don't agree with them but it's all good...
But: Can you give me an alternative to Dofus?
Cordially,
Abel Kay
My router connects my real life wife (also married to her in the game), my mom, my little brother and myself tothe internet. We al live under ONE big roof, like in the good old times.
Does that mean we would ALL have one IP address; and therefore be forced to take turns playing Dofus, even if we have 4 computers at home?
In THAT case, you can call your local ISP about splitting your IP addresses on your computers. Another way to do this is using proxies... But I guess one way to solve this one account per computer is if Dofus makes all their games played in Full Screen and it stays locked where you can't minimize or go back to desktop in any way unless you're logged off. In addition to this, Dofus should also cut their timing per turn whilst in combat. That way, even if those second accounters want to jump to their second character, turn would have already ended.
In terms of introducing you to a different game, I am unable to point you to the right direction. These are my reasons why I quit playing dofus. It was not necessary to respond even if you didn't agree and rather like to play Dofus, then well, go ahead. It's your game to relax upon, your game to have fun abouts and Bravo, You've found yourself the "perfect" game to spend your time on. You can bring in a million people saying they like Dofus and disagree with me, and I'll keep fighting back because those people don't see the way I see Dofus. I personally don't like this game.....not even one bit of it....
ok first of all what kind of noob 116 eni cant beat lvl 12x cra's come on... get an unreal wand my eni lvl 111 does 400+ dmg 3 times and is practically invincible.
second the idea of things being hard to drop is so the game is harder if u expect an mmorpg to just drop everything you need to do anything your a bit dim whitted arnt you
and my final point is (im going to play dofus) the pvp system is that you dont get agressed if your wings are not showing as you are not in pvp mode so if you walk around with your wings up when you cant win you deserve to be agressed...
Drops are difficult. I've been hunting for months just to get drops enough to make gears suitable for my character. Secondly, my eni was around lvl 5x before the big changes being made to eniripsa, so you can see the big gap of stat points distributed that went to waste. I am not being dim, but I'm just pointing out that these random drops is what bores the hell out of me. I do not want to farm 5 months just to grab the mats I need to make gears and then find out later on, they have new gears created. I can tell you that ever since I've moved to playing WoW, I could never worry about my building my character(s) because at LEAST, I can restore my talent points and use those points elsewhere just to experiment. I never had to worry about gears since they drop once in a while from monsters, and definitely, farming for mats needed to make/upgrade gear(s) is much easier. In WoW, they want you to GAME, do quests, etc.. not waste time hoping that whatever drops to you today. nvm....I don't want to argue. You gamers always cheat, and it's so sad that Ankama lets their customers cheat....that's all I can say... >.>
Yes people with wings up CAN aggress those who have their wings down, the difference with this fight is a guard will assist to help fight with the non-pvp person. However, if s/he is unable to beat the non-PvP person, then the person who aggressed spends time in Jail. And yes, I had seen people aggressing non-pvp when I was gaming, and I would also like to add, I have a friend who's currently playing Dofus. I asked him if people who turned on their PvP can still aggress those who have their wings down, he replied, "if theyre opposite alignment yes".
I'll have to agree that any game has its ups and downs, but Dofus is just a down for me.....not my type of game. Customer service is very horrible as they don't keep you confidential if you report other people, and it takes them such a long time to respond, whilst in contrast, I've got responded in less than an hour playing WoW if I have problems, and AT LEAST, they keep me as anonymous when I have problems with other members.
I am not going to tell you to play WoW and quit Dofus. Play whatever you want. Whether or not you play Dofus, I could care less, because hey, if you enjoyed it so much, then grats to you to finding that "perfect" game to spend time on.
Dofus is ncie when you want to cheer up. If you get a good guild, you would never have problems. Also, thats why their are guild collectors, just place one and be willing to defend him. In response to the original article: The article is outdated and many of the things that supposedly needed improvemnt have been dealt with. Ankama say they will be focusing on creating more quests for the players.
Cheers
$6, $15, or even $50.........price = quality of any game. If a game should cost a lot, then the only reason I can come up with is quality.
Yeah, I understand Dofus is understaffed, but if that should be a problem, then they should do something about it and hire more people. Customer's shouldn't be punished...afterall, any customer are what we all refer to as "kings and queens" and I'm sure this is what we all hate. Didn't do well on service? Well, you're fired...
I've pointed out many times how terrible customer service had been at Dofus. As a member with Ankama, I would like to help build a safe gaming environment with Dofus, but since they like to say "Morgan7456 reported so 'n so regarding this", they are creating a big problem. Needless do I have to say what problems they've create; secondly, I too, am a paying customer who paid in FULL. Why do I have to wait longer than 24 hours to get a response from Ankama regarding my concerns? How would you like to wait 2 months just to get 1 problem solved?
I don't care how much I have to pay for a game, as long as it's worth it. Heck....I've paid Dofus a one year subscription. That was a lot of $$$$$$$ and I've noticed, I could have bought myself at least 2 sets of clothing with that money. I've paid WoW $15/month and I don't care because it's a game where I spend my money to relax and not worry in game. Don't know what Dofus have fixed or haven't fixed, but I just think Dofus needs to think more than twice before taking any action(s). My first suggestion is catching people who cheat or creates disgraceful events in game, rather than creating more dungeons/quests. I had also noticed, GMs usually frequent with the server known as Jiva, which doesn't really show they care about what members do on other servers.
Not to mention, even Video games at game shops tells you how good a game is. The better the game, the more expensive it is. I will never turn around and go back to playing Dofus again, Unless Dofus gives me a good reason enough why I should quit playing WoW.
Well anyway, peace
My first 2 tries were bad because I was getting ignored by other players everytime I tried to make a conversation, guilds were tough to get in and also because quests were tough to understand.
I just began my 3rd and last try of Dofus and I paid 3 month subscription. So far,I do like what they did.The new tutorial is much clearer and I have already established somewhat of a contact with some players.
My only problem as of now is that the newbie channel is getting spammed with sell pitch.
As far as other games, you should try Eve Online. Also check out 2Moons and Insurgency(Half Life 2 mod)
Yeah totally agree. Also if you look deeper this is why I love this game. It is player controlled. The economy is like the real world. More farmer farm the less money the wheat gets. Less miner the more expensive the ores get.Basicly if you smart you can get rich by professions. Also they have just fixed a lot of the lag and disconnections. In this august there will be new things added. Like reseting your stats and spell points.

DOFUS RULES for anyone who have social skills
All you other people who say "oh no the server is crap, I keep d/cin" "The game sucks compared to the extremely vast variety of games out there" ARE IDIOTS!!
Dofus is one of the best games in the world and you wanna know why??
Because you can make friends quite easily
* First of all everyone who says "the fights take 3hrs, this game takes too much time" well think of other games. Do you not spend hours grinding on monsters by yourself for hours on end?? Do you not Get bored after the first hour??? Well Dofus fights may take 3hrs but there 3 fun hours that you can spend talking and making friends with the other intelligent people around you (mostly because most people under the age of 10 don't like the game because "everyone hates me and keeps aggressing me")
*Second point, anyone who says "the classes are to overpowered this guy killed me" Well if any game perfect?? No the classes are sposed to be unequal, they should have disadvantages against some classes and advantages against others and also anyone who thinks other are overpowered are.....fags!!! Plus nerfing one class will lead to more nerfing which leads to the game being completely crap.
Most of the reason people are drawn to the game is the social aspect of it, and also talking tactics with others. Id rather be sitting at a computer talking to others than mindlessly clicking another monsters and watching as i run towards it and start randomly hacking away.
*You say it takes forever for proffesions.... Well lets compare to other games.. Runescape has you clicking around chopping tree's or fishing
Wow has you running around hoping to find a rare herb or a random rock that appears out of nowhere
*Finally "The storyline" It doesn't have much of a story line.... but who needs one. Real role-playing games have you taking a role of a person... so why not make a story up while your at it? or better yet just ignore the storyline and make the aim of the game to have fun.
And in conclusion i believe dofus is the best game in the world because......
It has a large variety of skills/builds/combo's and lots of different classes to choose. As well as having one of the best communities imaginable.
So yeah like i said at the start, Most people with social skills will love dofus and all you kids who say its crap... just look at what your playing right now.
Doll-Master FTW!!!!!!!!! AWWW Yeeaaaahhhh
I'm sorry, while I still respect your opinion, I'd have to say that this is hands down the worst game (Not just MMORPGs either, I mean ANY game, Hangman included.) that I have ever played in my entire life.
Dofus was fun for a while then it got boring after level 20. Its too frikkin long to level just once after level 15!!!
But i hear theyre making a sequel called Wakfu, the trailer looks awesome and the graphics have been tweaked including characters and monsters.
So here i end up waiting for Wakfu whilst playing Lunia...
Well theyre making a sequal called wakfu check it out at wakfu.com also watch the trailer its not bad...
Dofus is a good game. Sure, it has its flaws as most games, but its good overall. Its best feature is the battle system, unlike usual mmorpgs this 1 is more strategy based, using features such as the grid system and movement/action points (like Heroes of Might and Magic and Fallout Tactics). Many different classes (12), many professions and many quests to do if you want to.
Most of the things morgan7456 mentioned have already been corrected - less lag, NO BOTTING at all and more balanced classes.
Although Dofus is P2P, it allows certain areas to be accessed via free accounts, so go give it a try.
1 + 1 = 2... Unless it CRITS!
