Question about Ultima Online

One of my old co-worker has played UO since the beginning. I like how he talks about the game, but its age and its 2D graphics is what kept me away. I just talked to him recently and he told me that UO is coming out with a new 3D engine and UO will be 3D and won't be blocky anymore in January.

Does anyone have any screen shots or know where I can find some of the new graphics for UO. I like the sound of the skill system in UO, but a skill system is not worth the head ache of looking at 2D or very bad 3D graphics.

    I havent seen any screen shots, just the announcement of the project on uo.com. Not to come across as pessimistic but it seems that the people who continue to play UO today are lifers that started very early on (ie fanbois). There is an emotional connection that keeps them playing. You can't tell unless you try it but I doubt new players will get the same experience from it.

    If you go to uo.stratics.com (for some reason it is down right now) then click on forums, then click on U.Hall you'll find a link to everything you need about the new 3D client including screenshots.

    I am one of those almost "lifers" who quit about a year ago. New 3D engine will still be only viewable in 2d, with no zooming, or rotating of the screen. UO did a complete 180 from when it first started in my opinion and is no longer the great game it used to be. Also, the dev team for Ultima Online has not released anything new on the 3D client since it was announced, keeping the community in the dark again. There was quite alot of interest when it was first introduced, and now that they are keeping completely quiet about it, alot of that interest has gone away, very very bad marketing move in my opinion.

    With all that being said, my suggestion would be to try it since it is only you who can decide if you like a game or not. Not me, or anyone else can tell you if you would enjoy the game. Good luck!

    I think the biggest problem with UO is that it doesn't have any clear plot. It is just a platform for player created content.
