AH or Bazaar?

I am sure this has been covered at some point in time, but as a new player just humor me image

I just started like I said and was wondering what the best route to sell some fish would be.  I know alot of people that need somthing they want, usually want it NOW (sad, but true, patience is a lost virtue).  I personally think its kinda stupid that I manually have to check the AH to see if something was bid on, and was wondering if setting up the Bazaar option would be a better route for a newb player such as myself  just trying to make some gil to get by.

Your thoughts please image

Depends on what you have and what your circumstances are. First off, in order for a bazaar to work really well, you need to be able to leave your character logged on bazaaring your stuff. That pretty much means a broadband connection (as it's unlikely you can tie up your phone line like that), as well as being able to leave your computer tied up running FFXI.

AH is generally my preference, if only because it's easier to find stuff there. However, stackable items (except for the rarest and most expensive) generally require you to have a full stack to sell on the AH. If you only have a partial stack, you may find it more worthwhile to sell it via bazaar if you can't wait to complete your stack and put it on the AH that way; while the AH will allow you to sell single items it is a) wasteful of AH slots and b) likely to get you very poor prices.

And that brings up a second reason to use a bazaar--the limit on AH slots. There's only seven, so it's not uncommon to use up your AH slots and decide to the bazaar the rest.

A bazaar can be advantageous because it can be set up anywhere. If you have a good supply of some quest item for a repeatable quest, it can be a pretty good wheeze to set up a bazaar selling 'em right next to the NPC the item must be traded to. You can generally get away with asking a prices several times what it would fetch on the AH. Another variation is set up in a location parties often go to but is far away from NPC vendors and AHs and sell food, ammo, and other supplies that those parties would use.

If you have a very high-end item, a bazaar can save you what becomes a pretty hefty AH fee--join the hordes of bazaars just outside Jeuno (because you don't want to pay the 10% Jeuno bazaar fee, either).

Finally, there's sometimes the case that you don't have a choice: there are a lot of non-Ex items that nevertheless cannot be put up for sale on the AH, so if you want to put them up for sale, you *have* to bazaar them.

Thanks for the help, Chris!  Just one more question, I set up a bazaar on my li'l guy and that newb question mark is still there...how do I turn that off?  FFXIylopedia said something about the "Help Desk" menu you could trun it off, but I couldn't find it...

On the Keyboard press - (Its on the number pad) to open up your menu, then use the arrow keys and press left or right to move to the second set of options. Down at the bottom go to help desk. There should be like 3 options, 1 of them has somthing about turning off your Question mark.
