Worried about PS2 players?

MirthMirth Member Posts: 28

All you serious FFXI players out there. Does the upcoming insurgance of PS2 players scare you?

I would think that they are even less inclined to participate in the community then the typical PC user. Without the "need" for a keyboard per se. I'd imagine that you'd have to prepare for an influx of d00ds.

True, but the more the merrier (don't mind the spelling) ... there has to be some hardcore FF fans that will get the keyboard and join us .... the rest will get one or quit once they NEED to party upimage

I personally dread the heck out of it. I see them begging/whineing to be powerleveled or something. I agree about the keyboard thing. One thing is for sure, I am staying in norg/rabaro/kazham even jeuno for awhile.

Hopefully, if they put up new servers, we can do the character transfer thing. I am pretty sure if a surge a people/lag and so on happens something will be done fast, one of the few games where I don't hate the devs lol.

I am not scared of the potential fludding of ps2 players because it will take them a while to catch up to me and by then they should no how to play. I'm just gonna wait to level any new jobs so I don't have to sit there and teach all the noobs how to write macros and how a party works. I think that with all the new ps2 players a lot of them will have never played a MMO and that means that they are going to be supers noobs unlike the normal newb that is just switchin from EQ, DAoC, and other games.

Man, I'm glad I'll be starting with a group of friends. I'd hate to have someone hate on me just because I'm on PS2.

OK...we have to think about one thing...we were noobs too back in October.  And yes, I have seen my fair share of begging for gil and items from the "computer folk" ...go to Bastok on the Fairy server...people begging for gil non-stop.  Imagine how the Japanese felt when we came on?  Heck, I know of seven server that all lost Their home kingdoms to the Beastmen because "noobs" never knew what a signet was within the first week of release....Im pretty sure the Japanese were upset over that.

Also, I know you're only joking about the chaining monsters then warp.  But i have to tell you I personally know someone who did that.  They froze his character, then warped him in a room and 2 GMs gave him one verbal warning and explain the rules to him.  Second warning resulted in his banning of the account.  I saw him freeze after doing this (he was gathering all the orcs in Ghelsba outpost and running them up to the top of the outpost then warping away and coming back).  Third time he did it, he vanished....thought he DCed until he /tell me what had happened.

Sooo lol, please dont chain monsters to piss off noobs.

    A.  Its not worth loosing an account over

    B.  We were in the same boat back in Oct. image

No one is going to hate on you because you play Ps2 how is anyone gonna know? As long as you talk and don't ask dumb questions about how to type macros and oh is it my job to provoke the mob when it attacks the mages? Stuff like that just makes me hate starting a new job or leveling a sub job for one i have already leveled. It should be really fast leveling at the low levels but it seems you spend most of your time teaching people stuff that they can read in your manual or look on the internet for. I'm not saying that all Ps2 players are going to be like that its just nooobs in general.

Don't get me wrong, there is no reason to hate you for the fact that you play via a PS2 (Hell, it's probably cheaper in the long run) But with the coming of those players, comes the likelyhood of them playing without a keyboard and just wanting to powerlevel/get phat loot/etc.

I can see plenty of people intereacting fine with the community. But with this new type, I'd think the likelyness of the unsavory types will be more prevalent.

(I don't play this game) Is griefing a problem?

Omg Newbies, Newbies, Newbies, and guess what more Newbies. I did a /sea all level 1 today and there was over 100 newbies on the server and only one I saw had a sub job. I talked to one and he said he had a keyboard but knew a lot of PS2 users don't and I dont understand how that is going to work. I have in one day already answered to many stupid questions and I even had a guy ask me if he could borrow the robe I was wearing so he could do a quest.

It was kinda fun going around the newbie zone and one hitting everything other guys were attacking but my conscience go the best of me so I healed them and gave them protect and shell.

Also, I would have to be a little envious because even thought my graphics are way better it would be cool to see FFXI on a  big screen TV with surround sound and stuff.

Well I am a newbie too but hardly a n00bie because I know what the hell is going on. Now, if PS2 players want to fill up the empty fairy server, than I am fine with it!

I haven't had much trouble with griefers at all. Everyone's pretty darned polite in fact...

...well, there was this one time in the Maze of Shakhrami that some jerks kept training aggressive monsters through and getting people killed...but that only happened once. So. Yeah, griefers aren't a problem.

I would have to agree...as a veteran mmorpg player (AO EQ DAOC SWG etc...), I am going to buy this HDD drive for my PS2 so I can play this on the bigscreen with surround...Woot!!

I'd imagine you'll get MOB training in almost every mmorpg. Good to hear that griefing in general is not rampant.

PS2 or PC long as you like the game thats what matters.  Though the idea of playing on my ps2 in front of a big screen tv dosent sound to bad image

if u have the pc version and i'd recommend u stick with it, unless u just want the hard drive for the ps2. got mine yesterday, and graphics dont look that great. But i will say this the ps2 controller is the best controller for the game, only thing missing is the keyboard for chatting. also dont worry about a huge d/l took about 5 minutes with a cable connection. as for the new ps2 players its great hopefully it will cut down the wait time for a group.
