has anyone played WoW via satellite internet???

Unfortunately the only internet available in my area is dial-up. So my question is this; has anyone played WoW via satellite internet??? Or do you have any friends that might have used this service? I know its not exactly worth the money, but anything is better than dial-up.

Please Help!

Thanks in advance.

The problem with satellite is that you're still using dial-up for uploading packets.  That'll bring your speeds down anyway.  So no, I wouldn't waste the cash on satellite internet for playing online games.

Much better off in using a 56k modem than a satellite..  :/

Ive never played WoW, but I have played Anarchy Online with satelite and it is much better than dialup. The Latency is not the best but I rarely get disconnected and its much faster than dialup. If you havent used Satelite then dont comment on it when saying your better off with 56k. I still dont see how I ever played anything with 56k.

Nah...satellite internet is "two-way" now and doesn't use a phone line at all. It uses the dish for uploading and downloading. Thanks for your input though.

Does anyone know what it feels like to do anything on a 14.4 connection??? (yes...i'm dead serious)

The problem with satellite internet is the round trip time for signal.  This adds a minimum of 750 ms to any ping time so while you have a lot more bandwidth then a modem your latencies are normally higher as well.  Traditionally if a game has good net code latency is a bigger factor, but this is less true today because of higher bandwidth requirements, and MMO’s are a little less latency sensitive to begin with.

Keep in mind the quality of the ISP can make a huge difference as well.  Your best may be to see if they have some type of a demo available where you can install WoW and try it first hand.
