Non Payment Period and your Character

I have read several places that people complain about there being a very short allowed non payment period after which your character is deleted. That period is stated to be around 3 months.

I started playing FFXI in Marts 2005 and quit my account (i.e stopped paying for it) in April 2005. In August 2006 I decided to give the game another shot. And my character was still there. And that was 1.5 years after I cancelled the account. I don't know if you have some other experience that points in another direction, but from my experience to judge your character is kept on the server for a very long time. So fear not :)

    Well, that's all.

    It used to be that you were guaranteed three months, which was absurdly short. Nowadays, you're guaranteed a year, which is considerably more reasonable. And it's always been true that you aren't guaranteed to lose your character if you go beyond those limits, only that you're not guaranteed to get it back.
